[UK] Thinking of replacing my K800i

Recommended Posts

First off, it appears that there's a good shout for the iPhone to have its own forum, there's so many threads on it. I'll say this first off I AM NOT BUYING AN IPHONE :) Not slating the phone, it's just out of my budget.

The K800i is sticking (the joystick anyhow - had it for about 18 month). I'm thinking of switching from o2 to Vodafone (an alternative would be to look into REbranding the phone to see if that's possible & also i'd need to unlock it as it's locked to o2).

I like the K800 for a few reasons...

  • Decent size. Not too big or too small imo
  • Isn't a flip, slide or Samsung (all 3 irritate me)
  • There's enough packed into the phone to suit my needs, although i quite like the track ID feature my g/f's K810i has
  • Then the reason i guess i'm making this thread - the camera imo is excellent. The flash to be more specific.

I'm not interested in how high the mp goes as this camera on 2mp setting is good enough for me. 3mp is fine too, it just takes longer to take the damn shot.

Looking into other phones yesterday, they all seem to either have no flash or a poor LED flash (that's a no-no from my K750i days).

The one that turned up .... K850i has the xenon flash also AND 5mp so it SEEMS great, but the main complaint everyone seems to be raising is about the poor camera & flash. Really dark shots etc

So i'm looking to replace. Is there anything out there sub or hovering around the ?100 mark that'll do the trick?

My K800i's just died this week and I'm planning on upgrading to the C905 when it comes out later this month, however its a slider and likely to be expensive. The C902 is the successor to the k850i and is a cheaper candybar phone you might like. It might even be free depending on your contract. Check it out.

Skypephone S2, I got it yesterday, its really good but the only downfall is that there is no flash, another downfall (according to my friends) is that its on the 3G network lol

Its also quite cheap as well at ?69.99

Another vote for the Nokia N82 here. I've been meaning to post a review on here for ages, just not got round to it. The camera is 1 of the best on the market for phones. 5MP camera with Xenon Flash that totally lights up any picture. Really nice phone, GPS, WiFi and a whole load of other great features. The battery life could be better but it's not too bad.

I also can't stand any slide, flips, Samsungs or Sony's so the candybar N82 is a perfect option for me.

As far as I'm aware, O2 do not lock any of their phones, expect of course the iPhone, but that's Apple's doing. My Nokia N82 on O2 is fully unlocked and O2's phones are the least branded as opposed to Vodafone who are terrible with branding.

c902: I liked the look of this phone & it was a consideration, but i saw it's an LED flash so that's where the consideration stopped

Nokia N82: Don't know anything about this phone so thanks, i'll look into it & see what is said

SE K850i: as mentioned really. I love the look of the phone, it's a sony ericsson which i prefer so on and so forth. There just seems to be an incredible amount of horror stories concerning the camera & flash. My sister has one and says the same. Otherwise i'd be buying this one without making this thread :(

Skype: never thought of this, but no flash is a concern & therefore i probably wouldn't purchase.

If nothing turns up, i might even re-buy a K800i lol. I fancy an upgrade/change, but so far, i've not seen anything that fits the bill like the K800i, which is quite disappointing considering how long the K800i has been out.

Will look into the Nokia though and see if it's up to scratch

Thing I find about the K800i is that the joystick's really don't last long at all on them. You can change them though when needed which is only cheap to do and easy. Problem then though is once you have opened the case, you are also welcoming the dust which can get everywhere! Under the screen, under camera lens; just about everywhere!. I own the K850i myself and I like it but at the same time find it rather annoying with the touch screen as it can be unresponsive at times. I eventually decided to debrand it which gave it about 25% increase in speed, would recommend a debranding. Flash story is true and it can over expose your pictures leaving everything to look way to bright. This does not occur all the time. This problem seems to only occur every once in a while but generally due to the wrong settings chosen for taking the picture. I am thinking about getting rid of mine so let me know if you are interested. These phones are a nice upgrade to the K800i.

That C905 looks amazing, I'm actually considering saving up for it, it feels like a perfected k800i to me (well, a k800i with all of the extra features I've always desired in a phone). I just pray it's not too expensive on pay as you go. The videos I saw on the fan site linked on Wikipedia seem like the phone is pretty responsive, no real lag at all (or, no more then the k800i), which I feel is a key component which is missing on a lot of phones today.

Hey Witalit.

You said that the K800i joystick replacement is "cheap to do and easy".

Have you done it?

How do you get the original 1 off?

I've never tried anything like this before, so I assumed a soldering iron would soften up the original solder.

Needless to say ... it doesn't.

In fact - I don't think it is solder.

Seems more like steel to me.

I took my K800 to a local phone shop (run by an immigrant - naturally).

He wanted ?85 to put a new joystick/toggle on it.

He reckons it will take him all day to replace it - hence the ?85.

I think he's a foreign version of Robin Hood (i.e. Robin B^$+@rd).

Any suggestions for taking the original 1 off?

Cheers.

Easiest thing is this:

Press in the joystick as hard as you can, then rotate it in full circles anticlockwise for 20 revolutions, and then another 20 in the clockwise direction.

Afterwards your thumb hurts ... but trust me ... the joystick is back to full health. Doing this seems to help clear the dust underneath.

Try this man supposedly it has worked for more then 10+ people from what I see on some forums. Let us know if it works!

The backup and restore feature of Hasleo Backup Suite can help you back up and restore the Windows operating systems, disks, partitions and files (folders) to protect the security of your Windows operating system and personal data. The cloning feature of Hasleo Backup Suite can help you migrate Windows to another disk, or easily upgrade a disk to an SSD or a larger capacity disk. System Backup & Restore / Disk/Partition Backup & Restore Backup Windows operating system and boot-related partitions, including user settings, drivers and applications installed in these partitions, which ensures that you can quickly restore your Windows operating system once it crashes. Viruses, power failure, or other unknown reasons may cause data loss, so it is a good habit to regularly back up the drive that stores important files, you can at least recover lost files from the backup image files in the event of a disaster. System Clone / Disk Clone / Partition Clone Migrate the Windows operating system from one disk to another SSD or larger disk without reinstalling Windows, applications and drivers. Clone entire disk to another disk and ensure that the contents of the source disk and the destination disk are exactly the same. Clone a partition completely to the specified location on the current disk or another disk and ensure that the data will not be changed. File Backup & Restore Back up specified files(folders) instead of the entire drive to another location to protect your data, so you can quickly restore files(folders) from the backup image files when needed. Incremental/Differential/Full Backup Different backup modes are supported, you can flexibly choose data protection schemes, which can improve backup performance and save storage space while ensuring data security. Delta Restore Delta restore uses advanced delta detection technology to check the changed blocks on the destination drive and restore only the changed blocks, so it has a faster restore speed than the traditional full restore. Universal Restore This feature can help us restore the Windows operating system to computers with different hardware and ensure that Windows can work normally without any hardware compatibility issues. • I looked into a few echo devices to find they were riddled with adverts over time. No thanks ill stick to my homeassistant, smart plugs, smart bulbs and cameras that don't cost me a monthly fee and are cheaper to buy. No adverts also.
    • Brave Browser 1.91.180 is out.
    • Putin or Farage had nothing to do with me voting out. I did so because I got fed up of the E.U telling us what we could and could not do. Fed up with our country being run by a load of unelected Europrats. We never joined the E.U in the first place.
