Update: Black Mesa: Source

Recommended Posts

You do know that valve already ported Half Life to the new source engine , if you dont want to wait until december (There is a 978676355626763276732673276% chance this date will slip to 2010 and a 982877387637763663767226% chance the mod will die after that)

Half Life: Source isn't really worth playing from what I hear? Its a few new graphics, Black Mesa is a complete remake.

Its the hydra I believe, but I think it was all scripted and couldn't really be done in game, so it got ditched.

When in doubt, read The Final Hours of Half Life 2. :) http://au.gamespot.com/features/6112889/

Yes it's the Hydra, yes it was cut, yes that scene was scripted, no it had proper AI, yes it was a bad enemy to fight. Basically, when fighting the hydra you saw a flash of blue then you died, it was fun to watch it attacking other NPC's, but not you.

As for HL:S, It's pretty much a 1:1 port to Source, except it has better physics and ragdolls. There are a few packs that add more features (Source gives it normal maps, refraction, etc.), but BM:S is a brand new game based on HL1 (best way I can think of to describe it).

This thread isn't irrelevant. I wanted to post my boundless excitement for this absolutely stunning recreation. Keep your silly sarcasm to yourself.

If the thread wasn't relevant, why post?

Thanks for posting about your excitement, next time why not run around your back yard? ;) hehe

And no, I have a habit of expressing my "silly sarcasm" at all times in all places, you'll just have to deal! :)

Deal with the fact you're an arrogant douche?

The thread was relevant, I think your missing the point.

I said the thread "wasn't irrelevant". That's a double negative. Improve your reading skills and deal with my counter-sarcasm skills.

The trailer for Black Mesa Source did say it will launch in 2009. Let's see what happens. This remake, the recreation of a new story in Deus Ex: Machina; it's really quite something to see the mod community put so much effort into games they love.

I think it'll be worth the wait. A late-2009 release date, as listed in Wikipedia, isn't too far off. And judging from the trailer, it seems that they have converted everything from the GoldSrc engine to the Source engine. I am looking forward to finally playing Half-Life. I've tried playing it and found it boring because of the outdated graphics. Half-Life: Source had me excited, but that excitement soon vanished when I realized that it was a mere "micro port" of the original game. All in all, watch the trailer and think about the fact that this amazing mod will be available at no charge.

    • Yeah, this is absolutely nothing new and EA have done it before. Burnout Paradise, released in 2008, had dynamic advertising billboards that were updated via the internet and targeted people based on location and what EA knew about them from their profile. It was particularly notable for the fact that the Obama presidential campaign ran ads in the game, in an attempt to reach a younger audience who didn't watch broadcast TV any more. It was by no means the first though. Battlefield 2142 from 2006 had the same thing. In fact, Neowin wrote a story about it back then. https://www.neowin.net/news/ba...-in-game-ads-clarification/
    • This is obviously aimed at the education where Apple has lost so much ground to Chromebooks in the last few years, but unless they come up with a comparable management system for education why would anyone switch back?
    • Here's how we arrived at that claim: Note that this is just Play Store downloads. The app is also available on the Galaxy App Store
    • Google Play states the app had more than 50 million downloads. What other metric do you suggest should be used?
    • MSN defined our generation in some ways, kind of like Snapchat and TikTok have done for future generations. I have great memories of the MSN era in the late 90s / early 2000s. In the UK everyone seemed to come home from School and go on MSN for the evening. We didn't really have mobile phones then, so other than going and knocking on your friends door it was a totally new way of interacting with people. I also loved how I could talk to people I’d met playing online games from around the world. Inviting people to NetMeeting and messing about with the shared white board and webcams was pretty fun, even if webcams only ran at a couple of fps over dial-up. All the random things you could do with MsgPlus! were really fun - I suspect that made a few people jump with /shello randomly blasting Mr Hankey out their speakers! Maybe I’m just nostalgic, however I do feel the internet and computers were more fun back then.
