Why people say SP3 sucks?

I'm guessing people are against it as allot of AMD users got BSOD upon installing SP3.

Most of these issues are already fixed but still it kinda burned SP3's image.

Tbh I don't have a lot of hands-on experience with SP3 as I prefer to use a 2 year old OS rather than a 7 year old OS ;). But that's just me. I saw SP3 working great for allot of people.

those people will also tell you never to upgrade anything to vista and won't give you a good reason for it. they will just tell you because it sucks....

how do these things get started...?

eh, some people don't like it for some reasons(fine with me, though)

1. it takes 5-12 seconds longer to boot

2. for some people(on ocassion), it will not turn off[just freeze].

3. 4-6 seconds longer to shutdown

4. need more space to make a backup

5.stupid user account control [uAC] warnings

6.uses 500MB more RAM

7.built-in defrag Shows u nothing.

disclaimer: these are complaints I have recieved from others.

I personally do mind, makes no difference to me (as long as I have VLC and Daemon Tools)

I don't understand why this thread has people talking about vista :o

I'm on XP SP3, had a problem with it at first but after a fresh install it is better than SP2.

In early releases, it caused a startup problem in alot of laptops from a misplaced dll. Other than slow bootups, its good now.

i installed it and found it made the pc very slow... so am back on sp2!

might of been something else making it slowe after reading that no1 else had probs.. so might give it another try !

SP3 installed on 3 PCs here and they work fine. I didn't even know it was installed till i checked for it. Those machines have been working great and they are P4 1.7Ghz with 512MB of RAM (yes i know i should put more in there. :) )

SP3 installs can be tricky, because you may get more than you bargained for:

• New Remote Desktop client; not all web-based setups of this work.
  
• If you installed IE7 BEFORE applying SP3, you're stuck with it unless you revert to SP2 to uninstall IE7.
  
• Some applications may require SP2.
  

This is why you test your deployments. Everyone here can say there's no issue with SP3, but this just means you haven't run across a scenario that causes you to have a problem yet.

No real issues with it in my VM. For some reason XP w/SP3 seems to be far slower than Vista when installed on my machine itself, but in the VM it's fine. :/

I've upgraded PCs to SP3 several times.

There is nothing wrong with it.

I updated to SP3 less than a week ago and it's working fine for me. I wasn't going to update to it cuz I was happy with SP2 and really didn't want to risk anything going wrong, but nothing did and I've noticed no regressions or new problems.

all my xp computers have got sp3 installed and havent seen any problems with it, IMO its way faster than when it had sp2

It's a definate go-er, as it includes the multiple core hotfix, which will give you better performance/battery lifetime on your computer, which is most welcome!

If it's slower than Vista on your pc, then there's something wrong there, every test i've run through XP's been faster (for most tasks). That's not a Vista bash, just saying if its noticeably slower on XP, maybe its a driver issue? I've had a couple of probs with funny drivers in XP and not Vista. (And vice versa - more common)

SP3 is highly recommended, my personal opinion with SPs is always clean install with the SP integrated into the CD.

I've found that a couple of low end machines (with 512MB RAM or less) were slower with SP3, but adding some extra RAM sorted that.

With SP3 I've noticed no change in apparent speed. It was SP-2 that slowed things down dramatically.

Upgraded my XP partition to SP3 last April - no problems. BUT, I'd prefer Vista.

Upgraded my bro and parents' computers also - went without a hitch.

Honestly, if you keep WIndows up to date, you already have a big chunk of SP3 already. Go ahead and install it and enjoy the few additional features (nothing major). SP3 was essentially just a roll-up of post-SP2 updates, plus a couple of minor features (like black hole detection).

I've had no problems with SP3; I strongly suggest the update. But of course, back up your data and make a restore point first (as with any big update). better safe than sorry. ;)

ive upgraded several computers to sp3, and it all went without a single hitch.

and the computers seem to run better now.

anyone that hasn't upgraded to sp3, is probably someone whos afraid anything they do on the computer is going to mess it up.
