i disagree and uac is very annoying and NOT needed

WRONG and as the OP has just found out after your system is up and running there are very few time UAC will come into play. But if spy ware/ad ware virus Trojans and such are what you like by all means disable UAC and enjoy.

As for services I have tried Vista with all the services and following several guides and found no benefit to disabling them.

Better answer, however are you sure your system has never been compromised? ;)

during the first day or 2 of installing a vista system you will see alot of UAC prompts but after that you rarely if ever see it,if you want to be infected with malware then by all means turn UAC off but if your smart and want to help avoid those keep UAC on and leaving vista alone will allow it to work best for you, changing stuff other than startups may help somewhat but if it works good and you got at least 2GB ram then leave the startups alone.don't go back to XP as your hardware will run vista better but if you had ancient hardware then use XP,when i started using vista i was very tempted to go back to XP a few times but i held out but then the vista install i had was kinda screwy but a new install fixed it 6 months later and the default drivers from windows update do there job well.
