[Official] Halo 3: ODST

Recommended Posts

For those of you who pre-ordered from GAME - their official twitter feed mentioned this last night (regarding someone's question about the early processing):

The Man Who Knows says, 'We'll authorise the payment tonight and actually take the funds on Monday'

So I guess they'll be sending them out on Monday seeing as they take funds when they dispatch the goods :( Unless any of you guys know different...

Yes.

It's where the whole story started even before the first Halo game. Assuming it's the Planet Reach and not something else :p If you want to know more then time to buy/borrow the books!

No no no no no, I wasn't talking about the story, I could care less about the story, I meant the actual GAME. People are obsessing over the Beta, the beta isn't going to tell you much about the story (as it's likely an MP beta), so I was asking if we actually knew anything about it worth getting excited for.

Oh come on Game, hurry up, mine still says Pending! With the strikes looming and post problems, they really should post them today or tomorrow to make sure they get here by Tuesday!

Well. Completed it.

My. What a monumentally underwhelming experience. No cliffhanger, no plot twists, no massive end boss fight. Nope, just a couple of bad guys and it's over.

The game began to redeem it's self towards the end too when it dumped the free roam and stealth. Now by free I mean you are able to wander about down some pre selected streets but most of the time you are trapped to large open squares connected by pre determined open doors. The stealth aspect consisted of you getting the drop on one enemy before it barked like an irate Yorkshire Terrier alerting EVERYONE within the square turning it back in to Halo 3.

Most definitely not worth ?30.

edit: Kick geddoff my sig:pp;))

Cheers for letting me know it's not worth the money:))

spookie is right, the game is terrible. It's not ANYONE's money if you already have all the halo map packs.

Me and a buddy played through it and the only reason we finished it is because we forced ourselves too. Seriously, don't get this game. This one is just over hyped and the ps3 fanboys are going to have a field day slamming it.

If any review site gives this more then an 8, they review was bought.

I really could careless about the Single Player to be honest. What I'm in for is for Firefight, the Halo Reach beta, and being able to play the Halo 3 Multiplayer with my girlfriend when she is at home and what not. Remember everyone, everyone has their own opinions and you cannot let "bad reviews" sway you away. People did the same with Halo 3 and Gears of War 2.

I have a hard time believing that since there are several pieces of gameplay footage showing you take down enemies without a Halo 3 firefight erupting. So either those were pre-fabricated or you just played it like Halo 3.

So what are you looking for here? You don't care about the story but want to know more about it....? :p

On another note...

All the way from Forbidden Planet in NYC :D

About the Reach beta i saw a interview with the main community guy from Bungie yesterday (will try to find the link) he said that on the first disk there is a Extras menu, in there (while grayed out at first) will be behind the scenes videos, small little story videos, and other such that Bungie decides to fill it with, and once the Halo: Reach beta is available it will appear there and upon selection will begin the beta download.

I will wait till this weekend to see how the reviews play out, if it REALLY is as horrible as you say then i will cancel my preorder. If not then i'm going to buy it, if anything, for the Halo 3 multiplayer (my disk is all cracked and it has a 35% chance of being read by the xbox each time i close the tray.

Edit: Heres the interview and source

WP: Is there anything about the game that we haven't talked about that you wanted to add?

BJ: I should just mention that one of the little awesome bonuses that we've included for fans is access to the Halo Reach multiplayer beta. This is, as we said, the next big game from Bungie. It's a prequel to the Halo trilogy. That game's going to come out next fall, but very similar to what we did for Halo 3, we are going to have a multiplayer beta on Xbox Live sometime next year, and the only way you'll be able to be a part of that is directly through ODST game disc, so we want to make sure that all our fans hold onto that disc so they can be there with us next year.

WP: Is that going to work the same way that the Halo 3 beta did with Crackdown?

BJ: Yeah, more or less. There's actually a menu item on ODST called "Extras" that right now will be grayed out, but when the game comes out on day one, we're actually going to be using that channel to deliver content to fans, things like the vidocs that we typically produce, behind-the-scenes materials, bonus materials, we might do some commentary and flythroughs, but our plan is to use that as a gateway to deliver content right to our fans through the ODST disc. Eventually, when the beta is turned on, you'll go to the Extras menu, you'll select it, and from there, it'll download and install to your console.

this'll likely be my last game before shipping out to a new job, so am looking forward to it. may even go to one of those midnight launch affairs the Gamestop people keep talking about. while not a huge Halo lover, this feels like it's going to be good. Halo 3 was a pleasant surprise for me, being my first foray into the series.

If Halo 3 was your first game in the series, I strongly recommend Halo 1. It still ranks high above the two sequels.

So what are you looking for here? You don't care about the story but want to know more about it....? :p

I want to know more about the GAME, what it involves. Do we even know if it's an FPS or not? What DO we know about it, other than the story behind it?

i know it's best to play the entire series and get the whole story and stuff, but i can't bring myself to play those older games right now...MS needs to bring them out on the XBL with achievements. I did play the first Halo online on a friend's Xbox when it came out...back then i was a PC snob and laughed at him "hahahahha you and your Celeron console!". Ok back to my Foster's Premium Ale.

Halo 1 didn't have XBL, so you couldn't have played it online.

It is FPS.

It is a prequel to Halo1.

It apparently has Spartans from a squad - not known to exist before the announcement teaser. This is speculation based on the Spartan number (I think 2xx) in the voiceover.

The book Fall of Reach starts with training of 150 Spartans - only half make it through the augmenting procedure. Their leader is Master Chief Petty Officer - Spartan 117 (real name John).

That's the background. That's all everyone(out of bungie anyway) knows about it for sure.

XLink kai or XBConnect ;)

    • hands down the worst version of Windows to date and sadly I think it's only downhill from here
    • I've never known a release to have so much pressure than this one. There is so much riding on the whole games industry because of everything that's changed in the past five years. That if this is a complete flop then I think the whole games industry is done unless something radically changes.
    • Windows 11 is now five years old by Taras Buria Windows 11 is now half a decade old. Five years ago, on June 24, 2021, Microsoft announced its latest operating system, designed to "bring you closer to what you love." Today, Windows 11 celebrates its fifth birthday. The launch of Windows 11 was interesting. Rumors about Microsoft introducing a Windows 10 successor popped up weeks before the public announcement, and a few days later, an entire preview build leaked online, allowing everyone to take a peek at what Microsoft was preparing. A few weeks later, Microsoft confirmed that Windows 11 was a thing and officially unveiled its next-gen operating system. Early versions of Windows 11 promised quite a lot. A redesigned, more modern user interface, a brand new Start menu and taskbar, improvements to virtual desktops and window snapping, Android app support, Teams integrated into the taskbar, Windows Widgets, a new version of the Microsoft Store, improved security, and more. Some of those features were welcomed, while others were received with heavy criticism. Besides missing taskbar and Start menu features, many disliked the steep hardware requirements, which kicked out PCs that were back then still perfectly fine. TPM and Secure Boot became mandatory, causing a spike in sales of dedicated TPM chips for motherboards. Double-layered context menus were disliked as well, and it is something that Microsoft still has to fix. Additionally, with time, some of Windows 11's exclusive features were simply killed. Microsoft removed the Teams integration and discontinued Android app support. During the early days of Windows 11, Microsoft was quite unwilling to address things that users criticized most. After four years on the market, management changes, and heated competition from the Mac camp, Microsoft finally decided to give in and take its operating system back to the drawing board to fix everything users had been complaining about for years. Microsoft is now redesigning the Start menu, adding missing taskbar features, improving Windows Update, fixing Windows 11's context menu, and more. Some believe all that warrants a new Windows 12 release, but for now, it appears that Windows 11 will stick around for a while. With Microsoft now listening to its core audience and acting upon received feedback, fans can finally expect a much better version of Windows 11 than what was available five years ago. Here is to five more years, Windows 11!
    • It’s a code which will be connected to your account. You can share the box but that would be sort of pointless.
