NVIDIA GeForce 8800 Ultra for $145! [US only]

Recommended Posts

I was browsing through newegg.com to recommend a video card for someone and I came across an EVGA GeForce 8800 Ultra selling for $145. The product is recertified so I guess that means it only has a 90-day manufacturers warranty period.

In case you were wondering, the GeForce 8800 Ultra used to be NVIDIA's king of the hill (before the GeForce 9800GX2). So far, there are only four NVIDIA cards that are faster than this one: GeForce 9800 GX2, GeForce GTX 260, GeForce GTX 260 Core 216, and GeForce GTX 280.

Here's the link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814130404

Also, click here to see how well the video card stacks up against GeForce GTX 280/260, Radeon HD 4870/4850, GeForce 9800 GX2/GTX, and GeForce 8800 GT in a multitude of game tests.

The item is now sold out!

It is! It's faster than most, if not all, $145 video cards. Here's a crude depiction of how well it stacks against other NVIDIA video cards:

GTX 280 > GTX 260 > 9800 GX2 > 8800 Ultra > 9800 GTX/+ > 8800 GTS (G92) > 8800 GT > 9600 GT

Sure, the power and size requirements may be a little too much for some people -- but look at the big picture. You're saving money and getting a powerful video card at the same time. It's an amazing bargain for those with powerful PSUs and enough space.

How are you saving more money when you buy a more power hungry card? or that doesn't matter in the saving money department?

Ummm, this card uses less power than a GeForce GTX 260 and slightly more power than a GeForce 9800 GTX. Don't let the size fool you. Just because it's big doesn't mean it's power hungry.

Now that its out of stock here the GTX thats at a good price too.

Good find, that price is very good ($129).

That is great news Anaron. I have the P5N32-E SLI mobo. Should the mobo have shipped with the SLI connector, or would I need to buy the connector separately? I am still in the process of looking for the mobo box...

As far as I know, the SLI connectors should come with the video card. You should find it in the box for your current GeForce 8800 GTX.

Good find, that price is very good ($129).

I bet if you purchase that, you can likely step up to a 9800 GTX+ for very minimal cost. If that 5-7% gain matters that much, which I'm sure to some it would.

I'm trying to find a cheap 9800 GTX+here in Canada. Futureshop had a BFG 9800 GTX+ for 199. A day or two after, it's now 249.99 :/. They have a 4850 for 202.99...But I like the step up program that evga, bfg and the like offer so I'm sticking with the 9800 GTX+ if I find one cheap enough.

Awhile back, Futureshop had a sale and the GeForce 9800 GTX+ went as low as $169. Just wait for a sale and the prices should drop.

If anyone wants that GeForce 8800 GTX, they better buy it soon. My guess is that it'll go out of stock by the end of the day.

    • Still hate Windows 11, I stuck it on my gaming machine again just for a nose to see what they had done, still as bad. Will restore Windows 10 back on it, suit MS anyway, they don't want me to run Windows 11 on it.
    • Ms did go with the you must sign into an account thing with Windows 8 for a while. The same sort of thing they are doing with Windows now and the MS account.
    • Hello, What sort of Microsoft Authenticator account login approval requests are you getting?  It is a generic authentication app and can be used with all sorts of services (Microsoft Account, Google Account, websites and services that support multi-factor authentication, etc.). • Windows 8? Nah. I found Window 8 worked well, get a third party start menu to get rid of the start screen, I used Start is back and windows 8 was pretty good. I used it even when Windows 10 came out as I found Windows 10 was iffy on my machine at the time was AMD FX Bulldozer based. It was only when I updated the innards to Ryzen that I had no choice but to go to Windows 10 as MS made it difficult to stay with Windows 8. ME, yes, that was not great, I liked the look of it, but it was not stable, shame really because Windows 98SE was the best of the dos based Windows.
