I'm looking at a gaming laptop; the following got good reviews:

http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/gateway-p-...l?tag=mncol;lst

Now this has Vista 64-bit pre-installed so I'm a bit unsure if I would keep that or slap 32 bit back on. My main concern is compatibility with software. To be specific, I would be using some development tools like Visual Studio and SQL Server along with the usual gaming.

Will I be ok with 64bit? Should I stick to 32? And I'll take other suggestions on a gaming-friendly laptop if you have one.

Thanks!

SQL Server and Visual Studio both run great under 64 bit, and will likely enjoy the full 4GB ram they'll get. Nearly everything released nowadays will work. I've yet to have any major problems with 64 bit, took a bit of googling for wireless usb key drivers, but works flawlessly now.

Why don't ya just stick with whats on there, and *if* ya encounter problems then consider sticking 32 bit on.

That sounds like a good plan, thank you.

Any feedback on this laptop?

I personally LOVE those new Gateway FX.. I have seen a few at Bestbuy and playing with them I want one.. I know 2 people who have them, and they play every game I play on my desktop with the same settings and same FPS as I get.

Just depends on price, considering you do have Voodoo and Alienware laptops that are great for gaming also, but of course they both can be alot pricier than the Gateways.

    • Yeah, this is absolutely nothing new and EA have done it before. Burnout Paradise, released in 2008, had dynamic advertising billboards that were updated via the internet and targeted people based on location and what EA knew about them from their profile. It was particularly notable for the fact that the Obama presidential campaign ran ads in the game, in an attempt to reach a younger audience who didn't watch broadcast TV any more. It was by no means the first though. Battlefield 2142 from 2006 had the same thing. In fact, Neowin wrote a story about it back then. https://www.neowin.net/news/ba...-in-game-ads-clarification/
    • This is obviously aimed at the education where Apple has lost so much ground to Chromebooks in the last few years, but unless they come up with a comparable management system for education why would anyone switch back?
    • Here's how we arrived at that claim: Note that this is just Play Store downloads. The app is also available on the Galaxy App Store
    • Google Play states the app had more than 50 million downloads. What other metric do you suggest should be used?
