Change MSN Account Associated With 360 Gamertag?

Recommended Posts

Overview.

Simply put as possible...

My XBox Live "Windows Passport" account is different than my account I use on MSN. So on the 360, I cannot sign into the actual MSN account I use.

Is there something I can do to update either my MSN account or my Live Passport account so it is the MSN account I actually us?

And/or why cannot I not just log in to a different MSN account on the 360 other than the one that comes with my Passport account by default?

In Detail.

For my XBox 360 Live Account, I signed up with it using a personal email address. I use this as my Windows Passport account for all MS services except MSN. For MSN, as stated above, I use another completely different email address.

I go to passport.com, try and change the email address associated with my current MSN account to my Passport "Live" email address, and I keep getting an error about the email not being a valid one.

I did some googling before starting this thread, and apparently I am not the only one who wanted to do this and according to Major Nelson it was going to be implemented later on in an update to Live, but this was also a thread I found from 2007. So is this going to be an option with NXE does anyone know? If so, I can wait until then, just thought it would be nice to have MSN on my 360 since it does support it.

Sorry if this is more confusing that it needed to be, I have just wasted the past 45 minutes trying to do this, to no avail.

I did this fine via the 360 Dashboard. Do they both have passports tied to the accounts? I think both e-mail addresses had to be existing passports before making the switch.

I'm tired, so sorry if I misinterpreted :p

Tired? It's only 8PM for you. Wuss.

But yeah, the Dashboard should allow you to do this. That's the only way I know of.

Where on the Dashboard?

Under Account Management I see no option to change my MSN address?

Keep in mind my Windows Live ID is fine as is, it is tied to my Gamertag, etc., it is just the MSN account I use is not the one that is associated with my main Windows Live ID

So you just want to change the contact address? I think you can do that on Xbox.com.

Go here: https://live.xbox.com/en-US/profile/profile.aspx

Then click "Billing and Contact Information" and change the email address there. I think that's all you need to do.

EDIT: I'm DUMB.

You mean for using MSN Messenger on the 360? I have no idea then

hmm I did something along those lines just afetr they made it posible to chang adress. I have like 3 differen passports, so I used them all to rotate around till so I got the correct passport/MSN assigned to my xbox accoutn without loosing achievements :)

not sure if I had to use all 3 or just 2. I think I had to use 3 to rotate the accoutn mails. well that was actually because the mail I wanted to use was assigned to another xbox account, that's why I needed to use all 3 accounts to rotate.

of course, with a laptop and all, I ended up not really using MSN on the 360 anyway, hopefully places is added to the 360 Live messenger with the NXE as well.

I know what you mean. I tried to use a different e-mail address to sign onto MSN in Xbox Live but it didn't work. However, that was many months ago. I thought there was an update that addressed this issue. Your only option is to wait because, currently, there's no known way to use a different e-mail address for MSN.

You can change the Live ID associated with your Live account in the "Account Management" screen. Just for the messenger service isn't possible, you have to change the account's ID (not that it's a problem anyway).

The rotation trick , had to do it myself too. My Messenger ID was tied to an old Xbox account I didn't use.

Okay this is what I thought too.

I understand all of the other options I believe, but they all require using a another Live Account, aka the Live Account associated with my proper MSN address, and I really just want to keep it all under my main Live Account I am using now.

To use a different address you must click your gamercard > account management.

From here there is a list with an option to change your Windows Live ID. This is the only way to change what email address you use when you sign into MSN on the 360.

This it the option everybody was requesting allowing users to change the email address they initially setup their console with to a different address.

Right I tried that, but it only allows you to use one email address for both Live and MSN, unless I am missing something blatantly obvious, but I only have the option to enter 1 address for my Live Account.

So if I change my Live Account to the email address I use for MSN, that email address is not the one I use for Windows Live ID for my Gamertag itself. So I would either need to create a new GT, which is just not an option, or just start using my other email address on MSN, which I suppose I could start doing, and is what exactly I guess I will do. I just added everyone on my current contacts list to my "new" MSN identity I will use, so if you get a request, that is why.

Yeah to use them both you'd need to switch around and change the settings each time, or do what you have done already and just change to that email address 24/7.

If you want to change the mail on your live acount to another one, but the other one is allready used on another live acount.

you'll need to move the mail from your main account, to a "holding" account, then you can move the the mail from the other acount to your main acount. and thn move the other mail to the other account if you need/want.

Yeah I had to do that when the update came out too. Pretty simple to do though.

    • This got me thinking, would you rather a self driving car prioritise protecting its passengers or everyone else? I'd choose the one that keeps me and my kids safest. At some point, these cars have to make those choices already, don't they? Wonder if we have a way to find out what way they lean.
    • The proportion (or number of iterations) has nothing to with this aspect of Copyright I am describing. In short, it doesn't matter how many times the manager tells you to change something or how. Your work product is always YOURS until and unless you then assign that to the person representing the client/company, usually for financial compensation -- either in salary or as a subcontract work for hire payment. if iterations determined copyright, then businesses would have learned to just keep making changes until they could claim they owned the copyright, without having to compensate the artist for their work. And that would be BAD. The only place where the amount of changes does have a role is in how much does a human modify a previous public domain work (from any source) before it is considered fair use or their own work, etc. For example, if a human makes substantial changes to a public domain (re: AI, by definition) work, then they can then claim that derivative work as their own...but NEVER the original version, of course. That's why anyone can make a movie about Dracula, for example, as long as it is based on the public domain novel, but not if they take new ideas from copyrighted movies made afterwards. As one of the people who personally advised the US Copyright Office on their recent ruling on these very issues, be assured that I specifically used the terminology precisely -- though I made it simple enough for laymen to understand it. If I made this confusing by doing so, I apologize. But, to be clear regarding your assumption that I would agree to your second statement that I quoted above -- the answer is NO. If AI does the work, no matter how much "direction" you give it, it cannot be copyrighted. All AI generated content is in the Public Domain and therefore the copyright cannot be assigned to ANYONE, even you -- until and unless substantial modifications are made to it BY A HUMAN BEING (yourself or a contracted artist/writer/etc.) and then that copyright on the derivative work is legally (in writing) transferred to you. This is a critical distinction. And it is important that people, especially AI sloppers, understand this. For example, YouTube is not paying AI slop generators for the copyright, etc. of their AI slop. What YouTube is doing is sharing AD REVENUE for permission to publish your AI slop. Copyright/ownership/rights never come into it. Importantly, that means that anyone can copy any AI slopware on YouTube, etc. and rehost it anywhere they want, even back on YouTube, and there is nothing legal that YouTube can do about it with regards to copyright protections, ownership, DMCA, etc. Anyone is legally free to use any AI slopware in any way they want. When this ruling was pending, I warned Disney legal of all of this before they did their OpenAI deal -- that it would literally dilute their entire IP portfolio forever. They ignored that warning for the PR and stock bump. But that is why, when the ruling came down last year, Disney quickly extricated themselves from that OpenAI deal, even eating the initial upfront fees -- followed closely by OpenAI ending their entire AI video generating business model. They adjusted their PR release dates to make this less obvious to shareholders, of course. Phew. I hope that this clears up the key distinctions for you and anyone reading. If you have any additional questions or even hypotheticals about AI and Copyright, please feel free to ask.

    • Owing to the nature of Windows feature enablement updates, it was distributed over Windows Update services as a complete system upgrade rather than as an ordinary cumulative update
