Help me decide on Windows Mobile 6 Apps

Recommended Posts

Hi all mobile users. I'm about to get the US HTC Touch Diamond with the US compatible HSDPA bands (wish it was Touch HD tho :( ). Anyways I am new to Windows Mobile only using for a few days on an old version 5 Palm my friend had. I'm looking for the following:

- Media Player with Codecs kinda like KMPlayer and CCCP codec pack but for winmo

- If i'm wrong correct me but is adobe flash lite included to work with the Opera browser in it?

- A viable AIM kinda program that allows for most of the desktop features, Palringo any good?

- If there is any customized bluetooth stack allowing me to browse others' devices since some other phones can also do such and it does come in useful IMO but this isnt that necessary. File transfer, headset, and A2DP is a MUST

- Photo editing program like MS Office photo viewer or IRfanView with touchscreen support cropping or the like

I'm very new to WinMo so please bear with me. I'm much more used to iPhone, BlackBerry, and mos of Symbian needed to be above basics.

as for the custom bluetooth stacks and suck theres two forums full of custom windows mobile rom's.

I'm not really ready to go from 1 to 13 by trying to flash a new ROM, I don't wanna screw anything up. For now I just want these programs to help me get the full feel of the OS then I might flash another ROM out of interest but for now, lets keep it simple with specific apps. I've checked xda-developers and am feeling lost a bit, it just seems so unorganized its not like Neowin ;)

Anyways thanks

the flashing isnt that hard, and you can always go back to your oem state.

there is an app that that unlocks your phone, it dosnt change anything other than allowing you to flash custom roms.

then you download the rom you want to use.

plug your phone in, startup the flashing tool, select your rom, and wait 5 minutes.

now you have a usually optimized rom, which all the junk apps removed, most of the time giving your phone more room, and quicker boot times.

if you want to go back go to your carriers website, and download the most up to date rom they have.

and when you flash with that, it puts the original stuff back on, and relocks your phone.

it actually took me a fair amount of time to get the nerve to do it with my phone after i got mine, because it gets more complicated.

i probably still cant explain the full thing properly.

i have an htc titan, so flashing my phone gave me gps (locked by carrier).

when a new windows mobile phone is released they're usually custom to that phone a little bit, those changes are ripped from the rom and made available to people with custom roms.

right now my phone, looks like the newest windows mobile phones with touchflo.

I'm not getting Sprint's crapped up device. I'm getting the unlocked US HSDPA GSM Touch Diamond. I also understand that issue of being loaded with unneeded junk. So what is the name of that program and what ROM do you suggest that keeps speed but still has the TF3D interface on it as well as some of the other enchancements?

As far as the media player, try TCPMP. It will play almost anything you throw at it, but it's better is you re-encode your video files to a smaller frame size (320x240 pixels is good) to reduce the amount of processing your device will have to do.

Download (copy this file to your phone and tap on it to run the installer)

:)

Any TF3D users, if I code my videos at 480x360 with 29.97 MP4 will it show a thumbnail or not?

redeemed, I've heard good stuff about it and couldn't find a link, thanks

(Y) No worries

You'd be looking for Hard-SPL:

HardSPL: This modified bootloader allows a much safer flashing process to take place since it reduces the chance of permenently bricking your device. It also removes the need to CID Unlock the device since it ALWAYS reports SuperCID when flashing. See the official thread [from the wiki] for more info.

It's completely up to you which ROM you want to flash. Try as many as you like. You will find that some ROMs run better for others, and everyone's device will run slightly different on different ROMs. Usually the chef will post the first 2 or 3 pages in the thread, the second 2 used for details of the ROM

There are "Full" ROMs and "Lite" ROMs. "Full" ROMs have lots of features and accessories/programs preinstalled, but they use more memory and storage than the "Lite" ROMs. Sometimes a chef will have both a Full and Lite version of his ROM. Usually the chef will post a screenshot or details of the memory usage of the ROM after a soft reset (basically a restart).

Diamond Cooked ROMs (ROMs that have been modified by ROM "chefs") Click the "Thread" link to read more about the ROM. However, there are more ROMs listed on the forums.

This is as excellent website for people who are new to the Diamond: http://www.modmydiamond.info/ You should find everything you need on that site.

Hope this helps :)

^^^^^^^ Wow great links, thanks again redeemed. I'll look at everything thanks once again :bounce:

You're welcome :)

The best thing to do, as you said, is to have a read of everything, and don't rush into anything.

I have a jasjam/tytn/8525 and it took me a while to get up the courage to flash it. Now, I wouldn't think twice about flashing a new ROM, except that I can't really be bothered; I haven't flashed a ROM for about 2 months. You might think that's a short time, but that's a fair while for most members of xda-dev. :D Before that, I did maybe 10 flashes in a month, 5 of those being the subsequent releases of the rom I liked. You don't have to flash roms that often, but it's up to you if you like to try new things.

What I did, I found one that I liked, and stuck to it, and then if the chef updates the ROM, it's up to me whether I want to flash or not.

Keep us updated

Cheers for the links - got a Diamond and want to flash it to get rid of the Orange crap ROM thats with it!

Guids above are very handy!

That's great (Y) :)

I love my Diamond - Only had it 14 days (well 3 technically, Orange gave me a borked handset first time, got the replacement 3 days ago)

Interesting ROM stuff for Diamond, going to tinker as i did with my old Orbit 2

Yes it is my site - but it is exactly what you want. Basically it's the best of the windows applications. Instead of searching through hundreds of crap programs that are hard to use, it has an archive that is neatly orginised for all touch friendly apps.

Hope this helps:

booboo, that is quite an impressive site you have there. Everything is listed cleanly and well I'm going to get my diamond some time next week so I can't judge on any of the apps so I'll take your word that you know what you put. Thanks

Chris Pinto, I will not have a data plan until I start working (november 7th i become 16) at minimum wage. I will have to pay for texting and do not know if I will pay for data. I can use Wifi with it though right even though it seems pointless

when i first got my phone, there wasnt a lot of guides written, and the ones that were written were very poor and confusing.

your lucky :p

Damn right, browse through XDA Diamond dedicated area was a pain in the ass.

Now its all "organized".........or i just got used to that mess.....lol

For video playing get CorePlayer 1.2.5 version. They optimized this version a bit for the diamond, still not their final compatible version for this device but it plays much better than the previous one.

And you dont need to convert anything to play on your Diamond, this is not an iPhone.......eheheh

Just throw the files on it and open with CorePlayer.

    • Not even an OLED display on the laptops. Also it seems that the laptop design isn't the same as the Surface Ultra model. Looks like bargain bin at high prices.

Targeted at server, desktop and embedded use, it is now the only professional-quality virtualization solution that is also Open Source Software. Presently, VirtualBox runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, and Solaris hosts and supports a large number of guest operating systems including but not limited to Windows (NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista, 7, 8, Windows 10 and Windows 11), DOS/Windows 3.x, Linux (2.4, 2.6, 3.x, 4.x, 5.x and 6.x), Solaris and OpenSolaris, OS/2, OpenBSD, NetBSD and FreeBSD. Some of the features of VirtualBox are: Modularity. VirtualBox has an extremely modular design with well-defined internal programming interfaces and a client/server design. This makes it easy to control it from several interfaces at once: for example, you can start a virtual machine in a typical virtual machine GUI and then control that machine from the command line, or possibly remotely. VirtualBox also comes with a full Software Development Kit: even though it is Open Source Software, you don't have to hack the source to write a new interface for VirtualBox. Virtual machine definitions can therefore easily be ported to other computers. • OK, now ask yourself how are they going to enforce that law? By requiring every single adult to prove their age and provide their legal identity documents to an UNREGULATED 3rd party company that already has a long track record of multiple data breaches. Not to mention, parliament have voted AGAINST this ban, twice, and Starmer is going ahead anyway. So, where's the democracy here, because that looks like dictatorship to me. The solution here is parental responsibility, not government control. Run some public service announcements on TV and UK social media teaching parents how to setup parental controls. That's already been proven to actually work. But the, this is not and has NEVER been about keeping kids safe. It's about control and monitoring. Watching what you're doing online and controlling what you can see and what you can say.
    • Interesting read. I knew the adware was quite controversial at the time, however never realised to the point The Guardian wrote an article about Patchou. I just said no and enjoyed his creation, I’d probably be a lot more wary of something like that today though.
