How to enlighten ignorant friends?

Recommended Posts

LOL , i thoguht this is some big issue where ur friend is ignorant in some funny way or i thought it would be some windows/linux thread but games?

Come on, if he doesn't like multiplayer games, that's the same as him saying I dont like first person shooters but i enjoy racing games. Who cares? Theres no need for "enlightement" He has his view you have yours, play multiplayer gmaes with him, and if you want to play mass effect on ur own go ahead, dont need him in it.

Grab a hold of yourself and learn to appericiate that people have their own reasons and opinions and likings, or "preference"

Uh no not totally.

Take this scenario.

You love racing games, your favourite genre. Two amazing racing games come out, the one with online gets 8/10, the one without 9/10.

Then you apply the logic in post 1

"a game without multi-player should not even be considered for game of the year."
will never play a game without multi-player (and a game can not be good without it.)

People have different tastes in games, thats why there's so much veriety. Its not ignorant to dislike certain games due to missing out on things they like, its more ignorant to try and convince them otherwise.

Some people like Multiplayer FPS's.

Some people like Singleplayer FPS's.

Some people like Multiplayer RPG's.

Some people like Singleplayer RPG's.

Some people like Multiplayer RTS's.

Some people like Singleplayer RTS's.

etc.

You get your entertainment from story/lure, he gets his entertainment from playing with other people online (and prob killing them :p).

If i love racing games and i absolutly love playing racing games online.. I'd get the online racing game.

Also why are you bringing reviews into it, they are just people's opinions.. just like his.

Why should multiplayer be tacked on even if it doesn't fit the game itself? How would you add multiplayer to a game like Bioshock, Assassin's Creed, Uncharted, Mass Effect, Oblivion, etc., and not have it end up like Metal Gear Online?

+1

Which is what it seems like the guy discussed in post 1 is doing.

Telling us games without multiplayer can't be good, and that none of them deserve to be ever considered for GOTY...

Yes you may get that game (as an online fan), but I seriously doubt as a racer genre fan you're going to mouth off the more critically acclaimed title of the two as rubbish and not worthy of GOTY

The review scores are relevant as we brought GOTY labeling into this topic - Good games, score well, get noticed, get awards.

But anyway, I'm gonna shutup now - I've discussed this is far too much depth

Just one gamers views on things, that's all...

while your friend's comment on titles without MP being automatically disqualified from GOTY consideration is a bit over the top, it is a valid assertion. I don't agree with him, but these days MP is certainly expected, and many do consider its omission a major minus.

therefore he's not ignorant, at best he's vehement to the point of being slightly obnoxious. but it's not like he said Mass Effect and Bioshock sucked eggs, he just said they're not good games because they lack MP. this sounds reasonable even to me, and i really don't agree with him.

If you want this kid to shut up, tell him this. He is wrong.

Why, because you cannot judge a game beyond what it contains. If he feels a game shouldn't be judged merely for not having online then he is admitting he cannot appreciate games for what they are.

The instant you tell him he is doing something he believes he is not doing, then he will try to prove you wrong and perhaps actually change if he has any intelligence. If he still needs convincing, then ask him to tell you which games is better of these two.

Super Smash Brothers (original) or Super Mario 64. This will probably be a very hard question to answer considering both were outstanding games. If he answers SM64, then hit with the "But it doesn't have multiplayer" line.

The way I see it is something like Call of Duty 4/Fable/Fallout/Bioshock/Mass Effect doesn't need multi-player as they are story driven.

However something like Street Fighter/Tekken/Mario Kart/Gran Turismo etc. are worthless without multiplayer...

As for myself, I have a hatred of multiplayer games and won't play them online, the only ones I'll play are at a friends house when there is a bunch of us, online they are far too many tw@'s for my taste (in my view about 99.99%) and as a misanthropic person I'd rather not have anything to do with them.
