The Avengers (may contain spoilers!)

awesome movie.. the only thing I didn't care for was so much joking between each other or in general from random comments. Can't wait for a 2nd follow up but ya know that won't happen till 2015 at the earliest as they gotta get the next Ironman, thor and CA out of the way first.

Saw the movie tonight. Meh. Good for a few hours of mindless entertainment. Some good laughs and chuckles. BUT far from being the greatest comic adaption ever. Could have done without Black Widow. The hulk was ok but not used enough. IMO, Ironman is still by far the best of the bunch. If you want my opinion it's a good dvd rental more than a movie must see.

Yeah I do not think the colors as they are would work either, but mute them some or something along those lines. Like this...

Hawkeye_Muted_COLORS.jpg

Or at the very least come up with a modern version of his mask.

He just looks like random solider as he currently is, just does not seem to be an Avenger the way he is dressed now.

maybe he'll get his costume in the second movie? lol. It's kinda like how he evolved to become Hawkeye, and he goes through the ranks of S.H.I.E.L.D. and then after he becomes an Avenger. So did you catch the extra scenes or not? lol.

Yeah, the movie was wildy fun and enterteining. But to call it the best comic book movie ever it's a very very VERY large stretch.

Why would it be a stretch? It was hands down the best comic book movie I have seen so far.. and the early box office numbers and reviews seem to be agreeing.

Going to see it again tonight :)

I absolutely loved the movie. Great blend of most important basics to get an excellent final product. I think Ruffalo nailed it as Banner and I enjoyed the pacing of everything and how we didn't just get thrown into 2 hours of mindless action. Great writing, too. Whedon used comedy to, wisely, break up other events that could have otherwise seemed to go on for too long. Very well done on his part.

Really? The best comic book movie you've seen? You my friend have low standards. X-men..any of them. Spiderman. At least 1 and 2. Ironman. Even Capt. America was a better adaptation. Batman. At least the latest incarnations. Hell, I'd take the Fantastic Four over the Avengers for being a good comic book movie.

With all due respect, The 2nd and 3rd X-Men were mediocre and Spiderman was decent, but no where near great. Fantastic Four? Probably the worst of the bunch.

I honestly don't see how someone can;t come out of this movie saying they had a great time.

Only ones that come even remotely close in my books are X-Men First Class and Batman movies. Though I personally would watch Avengers over any of them any day.

And Fantastic Four was just bad, I don't see how you could seriously argue that it is even remotely in the same league with Avengers.

Just came from the theatre, and this movie really delivered. Being a fan of Joss' works, I knew he would deliver, but never imagined something like this. Lots of character, lots of action, and probably the best long take/sequence shot I've seen in a very long time, or perhaps ever.

So I didn't stay for the second scene though I guess the important one was the first one. For sure my 3rd favorite marvel movie after Iron Man and then X-Men First Class. behind both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight for best comic movie though.

Thought it was a fantastic film, really paid off with all the films that have worked up to this point to bring them together.

I would also watch a new Hulk film with Mark Ruffalo in, I thought he did an excellent job considering he came in to take over from Ed Norton over the trouble the studio seemed to have with him, I thought he portrayed the character far better in such a short time than the last two have.

Record breaker: $200.3M in the US and $641.8 worldwide :shiftyninja:

'Avengers' smashes record: $200.3 million debut

Hulk, smash.

That's what Captain America tells the Incredible Hulk to do in "The Avengers," and that's what the Marvel Comics superhero mash-up did at the box office, smashing the domestic revenue record with a $200.3 million debut.

It's by far the biggest opening ever, shooting past the previous record of $169.2 million for the debut of last year's "Harry Potter" finale.

"The Avengers" added $151.5 million overseas over the weekend to bring its total to $441.5 million since it began opening internationally a week earlier.

That raised the film's worldwide haul to $641.8 million in barely a week and a half, more than its Marvel superhero forerunners "Iron Man," "Iron Man 2," "Thor" and "Captain America" took in during their entire runs.

If distributor Disney's domestic estimate Sunday holds when the final weekend count is released Monday, "The Avengers" would be the first movie ever to haul in $200 million in a single weekend.

A $200 million total for every movie in release is considered a great weekend for the business as a whole, so "The Avengers" redefines the standards for a blockbuster debut.

"If 'The Avengers' is any indication, we're going to see a leap rather than a gentle little nudge into new territory, and the lineup is there to justify it going forward," said Greg Foster, chairman and president of the huge-screen IMAX cinema chain.

Crowds were so anxious to see the film on IMAX's giant screens that Foster said the company had only one problem: it ran out of seats to sell.

Hollywood launched a potentially record-shattering summer with a vengeance, "The Avengers" landing as just the first of three huge superhero tales that highlight a lineup filled with other blockbusters in the making.

"The Amazing Spider-Man" follows on July 3 and "The Dark Knight Rises" wraps up the current Batman series on July 20.

Until the "Harry Potter" finale, 2008's "The Dark Knight" had held the revenue record with a $158.4 million debut. Before that, the record-holder was 2007's "Spider-Man 3" with $151.1 million.

I gotta say as this was the first 3D movie I saw (and it was one of those post converted deals wasn't it?) I would totally pay the $3.50 extra to see future Avenger or Marvel/DC movies using 3D. IF it was as good as it was in the Avengers. It wasn't in your face (though some of it was...lol) and it overall was a pretty nice effect imo. Hawkeye's arrows in 3D looked awesome (seriously, at one point I actually turned my head a bit lol) and I really enjoyed it. Since I know many people are tired of 3D already, I went in pretty skeptical and had very low expectations it would add to the movie at all. Let's just say I was pleasantly surprised :)

The movie totally deserves all the praise it is getting, and the $200 million it did this weekend ($640 million worldwide in a week!!!) is testament to how good it was I think. Way to go Joss Whedon and everyone involved. Especially Mark Ruffalo. :D

I just got back from seeing it and it was absolutely amazing. It has comedy, action, and serious moments that keep you in a state of laughter, awe, and wonder. Also, the CGI was really good. I think it's the best CGI I've seen to date. Nothing can compare to it and I'm glad the movie is doing well in sales. It's about time that superhero movies are made in a way that connects them to other movies. I can't wait to see the upcoming Marvel movies like Iron Man 3 and the Thor and Captain America sequels. What I'm really looking forward to the most though is The Avengers 2. I hope Joss Whedon directs it because I truly think he's an amazing director.

Now, for the spoilers:

The scene where the Hulk smashes Loki mid-sentence had me squirming in my seat. I just couldn't stop laughing. There was another scene that cracked me up as well. I think it was the fight between Thor and Iron Man. The part that made me laugh was when Thor slammed into the ground and made a weird grunt sound.

Also, I was blown away by the post-credit scene with Thanos. I had a feeling it was coming because of a scene in Thor where the infinity gauntlet is shown. But even knowing that, I wasn't really prepared to see his face.

and who could forget the

Tony Stark Shakespeare rendition and Hulk punching Thor right after they killed one of those worms.

Totally loved it, cant wait for the blu ray with 30 mins of extra footage! One question though, does anyone else feel that

they made Thor seem less powerful than he should be? Through the years he's been the only one capable of really going toe to toe with the Hulk but the movie seemed to me to show him struggling a bit to hold his own.

Also Hawkeye was

really well done, much more of a threat than you would have thought. Really brought the heat to SHIELD.

EPIC!!!!

No, really... all the hype is dead on. This was, by far, the best superhero movie since Superman (original with Christopher Reeves).

And there are TWO extra scenes. One after the short credits, and then another at the VERY end.

:o Seriously? Can someone PM me and let me know what the second credits scene showed? I missed it too. lol

As for the movie, I thought it was really amazing. We both liked it a lot. I can't wait to see if they are able to pull everyone together for a sequel now... I presume after Iron Man 3, Captain America 2, and Thor 2... lol

The first scene shows In space, through the debris, the Elder talking to his master that The Avengers are now a threat to the Universe. A sillouette is shown and a face is turn to the light. Revelaled is a closeup on Thanos, as he grins/smiles. The second scene is All the Avengers at the Schwarma place Tony mentioned in the film. They are all eating at a table. Not one word of diagloue.

Thanks. :) I just looked up what a Schwarma was. Sounds delicious. LOL

What part, in the movie Thor, is the infinity gauntlet shown? I've seen that movie 3 times and haven't come across it :(

I was wondering this as well. I've seen it several times and somehow must have missed this...

    • Simple answer is yes, you will still get the Windows updates and as long as browser is up to date, you will be good. Only thing secure boot does is protect you against boot level threats and make it harder to install other OS's. I've been looking into this pretty thoroughly lately myself as wifes computer has secure boot disabled plus my other, older computers that run Linux, don't have secure boot enabled. Have seen all kinds of questions about this on the Linux Mint and MX Linux forums. Just don't suddenly enable secure boot now.

    • AltSendme 0.4.1 by Razvan Serea AltSendme is a minimal, cross-platform application designed for fast, secure, and private peer-to-peer file transfers. It allows users to send files or entire directories directly between devices without relying on cloud servers, accounts, or any personal information. Everything is encrypted end-to-end using modern protocols like QUIC and TLS 1.3, ensuring both strong security and low-latency performance. Transfers are verified with BLAKE3 for data integrity, and interrupted downloads automatically resume, making the experience reliable even on unstable connections. You can transfer anything—images, videos, documents, and more. Integrity checks are performed on both ends, so your files are automatically verified for correctness during both sending and receiving. AltSendme works seamlessly across local networks or long-distance links, capable of saturating multi-gigabit connections for extremely fast delivery. With built-in NAT traversal and encrypted relay fallback, it connects devices almost anywhere. The app integrates with the Sendme CLI and will soon support mobile and web platforms. Fully free and open-source, AltSendme offers a lightweight, privacy-first alternative to traditional cloud-based services, removing size limits, upload costs, and unnecessary data exposure. AltSendme 0.4.1 changelog: Release Highlights Self-hosted relays: Run your own iroh relay so transfers don't rely on public infrastructure. Includes a full deployment template in deploy/relay/ with Docker Compose for a VPS and configuration examples for production use. Fly.io support: One-click deploy template for Fly.io, including a quick-start config (fly.dev.toml) for testing without a custom domain, plus production setup with Let's Encrypt and your own hostname. Relay settings UI: New Settings → Network panel to choose how AltSendme connects: automatic public relays, custom self-hosted URLs (with optional auth token), or disabled. Test connections, verify latency, and see live relay status in the footer. Disable relays: Turn off relay servers entirely when you only need same-network transfers (e.g. LAN). Direct connections only. No relay hop required when devices can reach each other. Android graduates from beta: Android is now part of the regular release cycle alongside desktop. • You are mostly right about the ephemeral nature of it. As I mention in the article, if you dont add a second device or take a backup of your account before uninstalling it, then yes you will lose access to your account. That said, in terms of actual user experience when you sync multiple devices your message history carries across and there's also a Saved Messages chat like there is on Telegram to send messages and attachments between your installs. But yh, what you point out are correct and its not trying to emulate Messenger or Telegram.
