Your Worst Computer

Recommended Posts

So, my desktops are really crappy computers, I just wanted to know if anybody here had any systems that they still use from time to time, and are nearly (or even worse) as bad as my worst computers...

Both of my desktops are hooked into a USB KVM, with a NEC MultiSync LCD1760VM, Microsoft Comfort Curve Keyboard 2000, and Logitech Click! Optical Mouse

My PC Desktop (Compaq Deskpro EN P550)...

Hardware: Intel Pentium III 550 MHz, 256 MB PC100 Memory, 10 GB Western Digital Hard Drive, 8 MB ATI Rage AGP 2x, 16x LG DVD-ROM

Software: Debian Etch 4.0

My Mac (PowerMac G3 Blue and White)...

Hardware: G3 400 MHz, 384 MB PC100 Memory, 40 GB Seagate Hard Drive, 16 MB ATI Rage 128 PCI, 16x BenQ DVD+/-RW

Software: Mac OS X Panther (10.3.9), Office 2004 Standard, Camino (whatever the latest version is), Corel Painter Essentials 3

My dad is still using a 350MHz Pentium II (no idea what core that is) with 320MB RAM (256MB + 64MB) and a 5GB HD (I believe Maxtor) and 8MB ATI Rage graphics all running on Windows 2000.

I think the last time I went on it (around 2 days ago) it had about 6.4MB of hard drive space left. That's right you didn't misread it...6.5MB.

I'm not sure about the exact details about the hardware

A toshiba laptop with 128mb of memory and a p3 at less than 1.3ghz and a 4gb HD

Another computer with a 800mhz AMD and 256mb memory (half of which I found in the trash and doesn't work well)

A server with a 500mhz CPU and 64mb memory

all have ATi Rage

all running XP except the server

I use them every day, they're all I need for work and internet.

I donate most of my old PC to friends or charities... the oldest I got in house is an AMD XP 2200+

PC's that I've donated that are still in use:

Pentium 60 w/ Windows 3.11 (old bible software at a church)

Pentium III 733@825MHz (currently utilized as a target on gun range)

Pentium III [email protected] (donated to a friend, actively used as PC)

Pentium II 500MHz laptop (donated to the same friend, still used)

circa 1996...pentium 133Mhz or something like that. it's all shrouded in senility now, but i recall that machine with particular unease. i think it spent most of its time locking up, but then went on to serve as a family PC for a couple years longer. it was then on to a P2 in 1997, which was infinitely better.

EDIT: heh heh budious, P60 and P90..those were the days. i recall the 100Mhz DX486 and something called Blue Lightining or something like that, it was all the rage for a couple of months in 1994...wasn't life grand then? oh wait, not sure it was...

Hardware: Intel Pentium III 550 MHz, 256 MB PC100 Memory, 10 GB Western Digital Hard Drive, 8 MB ATI Rage AGP 2x, 16x LG DVD-ROM

Software: Windows XP Professional SP3

I had this exact setup but mine was a Gateway.

Not sure why I got rid of it, it ran most basic applications very well.

My worst computer right now is probably:

Dell Inspiron 6000; Pentium M 1.3 GHz

1 GB RAM

integrated video, audio

60GB HDD

For mine

AMD Athlon 2400+

256mb

Radeon 9200

The original system cost 800 quid back in 2001. Intergated graphics, 800mhz Pentium II (I think) and 128mb of RAM.

When that got upgraded to 256mb in 2004, I thought that was the fastest thing ever.

Still it works when I need it to :D Even if it needs to be cleaned due to dust a lot.

The one I am using is my first and only until 2011.

year:end of 2004

it's a HP

processor: p4 2.93 Ghz

RAM: 2.5GB DDR PC-3200(best i can give off-hand)

(2GBkingston, the rest came with it)

is it a good idea to mix manufacturers with RAM?

Nvidia 6600 PCI-Express

Motherboard: American Megatrends (i think)

320GB Seagate HDD

20x DVD multiburner w/lightscribe

It was my most reviled computer ever.

HP Pavilion, and I'm guessing 2000, because thats when HP started using the colored plastics in their computers (in response to Apple no doubt).

And yup, you guessed it.

Windows ME.

And it had the little annoying Albert Einstein guy who sat on your desktop and acted like the paperclip to the entire system.

My worst one - P3 900Mhz dell inspiron 8100 laptop w/512 ram, but running Debian w/xfce desktop it runs like a dual core! Too bad it only has an 8g hard drive!

I'd try Debian (or another Linux distro) on my desktop, but it causes all of these stupid problems when used as a print server.

My worst computer that I use on a regular basis is an old iMac G3. 450 MHz, 512 MB RAM, 7 GB hard drive. :)

It runs OS X 10.4 surprisingly well for its age.

I should probably try out 10.4 on my Mac (see OP) then.
