McAfee VirusScan - how to stop to starting scanning computer

My Aunty has a laptop that is running really slow. I managed to stop various things starting on startup which were not needed which has speed things up.

However she has McAfee VirusScan installed and once this starts and it starts to scan computer the computer goes slow again.

Last time I was there I tried to find the option to stop this but couldnt. (Didnt have time but next time I will properly uninstall McAfee and install AVG Free).

Does anyone happen to know if there is an option. When I start McAfee it does it that some things need "Fixing". Properly anti virus definitions need updating or something. However when clicking the Fix it button and starts doing something and then after a few minutes says something like it cant fix it because of an error????

what error is that?

is your product still valid? means its still within the subscription period.

the computer is slow maybe its due to cluttering of your registry. you also can try to run disk cleanup to delete your temporary files.

It properly is full of all sorts of clutter!!

hmm....then its better for you to run disk cleanup at the first place.

try not to deal with the registry at this point.

I will do the next time I am there.

However, the computer does slow down significantly when McAfee actually starts to scan the computer.
