I just started working on it so all I have to show is the taskbar. The start menu is also done but it needs a bit of tweaking. After that I'll move to the window borders and probably call it quits. I was thinking of re-doing the UI widgets as well but I think they already look pretty good. I tried a bunch of different button styles and every time I loaded the theme I thought to myself "does this really look better than the default button? Am I changing it just for the sake of changing it?"

Anyway, here is the general direction I'm taking.

Hopefully I'll update soon. I'm hoping to have it done in about a week.

Looks pretty good. Are you going to make an aero version? And I think you should move the start button closer to the edge... it looks a little off at this state.

That is the Aero version, I just haven't put any opacity on it yet. I'll probably make a few versions (with or without opacity).

As for the start menu, I'll move it a bit and see how it looks. I was just afraid that the gap between the menu and the quicklaunch area might get too big but I'll do it and see how it looks.

You could make it wider in that case. I'm not sure how vista skinning works - can you define a rectangle for every object? or is it set?

One of the things I hate with vista skinning is that the start button is so dang small, could you make it longer more like the XP one?

I made a longer start button. I personally like the smaller one, but I'll save out both versions so people can have a choice.

I'll try to include an alternate version most likely using the user button (aka. the buttons seen in the save dialog)

If thats what youre trying to do, may I suggest you make the gradient a bit lighter color. The button are too dark at the edges.

After looking at the screenshot you posted for a while, I think a blue one would be nice too :)
