Glibc

Recommended Posts

For some reason it seems that I do not have glibc installed. I did choose to install everything while installing slack. Does anyone know where I can get a working version of glibc for slackware 9? I would prefer 2.3. This is really wierd. glibc should be installed by default. Please help me :cry:

Its SUPPOSED to have it, but i dont seem to. Most things from rpm(if not all) that I try to install give failed dependencies for glibc. Any way to check?

/edit/

I tried this:

glib-config --version

1.2.10

and it returned that. I think I do have glibc, maybe just an old version? :huh:

I found the package that gideon listed on my cd. I untarred the contents into / (i hope this is what i was supposed to do :p ). It still didnt work.

bash-2.05b# rpm -Uvh j2re-1_4_1_01-fcs-linux-i586.rpm

error: failed dependencies:

        glibc >= 2.1.2-11 is needed by j2re-1.4.1_01-fcs

        /bin/sh  is needed by j2re-1.4.1_01-fcs

Im not sure if thats how I was supposed to install glibc, but it seemed like the most logical way :p . When I run glib-config now, it still gives me the same version number.

/edit/

I used pkgtool to install every package that had the words glib in it on the slackware cd. Still no go. Same dependency.

Correction. The GLIBC is version 2.2.1 in Slackware 9.0. And syscrash, RPM's aren't supposed to work in Slackware. Use Tarball or Binary (.bin) instead!

lol yup, figured that out the hard way :laugh: . At least i am now more knowledgeable(muhaa muhaa) :rofl:
