According to Maprincipaute.com, Iron Man 2 will film in Monaco during the Formula 1 Grand Prix circuit and casino. It sounds like it will be mostly Second Unit filming, but you can read a translated version of the article here.

Director Jon Favreau's Iron Man 2, opening in theaters on May 7, stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Jon Favreau, Mickey Rourke, Sam Rockwell, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Garry Shandling, John Slattery, Kate Mara and Clark Gregg.

Whiplash concept revealed?

Earlier this morning I got this tip in my inbox...

Supposedly, it's Mickey Rourke as the Iron Man sequel's henchman WHIPLASH.

I have no way of confirming it's authenticity so be warned that this could be a fake too!

Regardless, I think it's pretty cool and worth posting...

We'll know soon enough if it's legit or what not.

What do you guys think?

Check out the pic below.

Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Gwyneth Paltrow Samuel L. Jackson Don Cheadle, Mickey Rourke, Sam Rockwell, Garry Shandling, and John Slattery all star in The Jon Favreau-directed sequel.

Iron Man 2 is due out May 7, 2010

Everything RDJ does is great :D

I love seeing set photos because judging by all those panels it'll be a green screened background. Nice to see how those scenes come to be. Hopefully they'll give us a teaser trailer or something attached to Transformers.

Empire got the chance to talk to Mickey Rourke about his role as Tony Stark?s new nemesis in the Marvel comic book sequel Iron Man 2. ?I?m having the time of my life!? he enthused about joining the Iron Man franchise. ?It?s been really brutal, because my Iron Man suit weighs 23lb. It?s sort of a half-suit, with half my skin showing, with lots of Russian tattoos, because [Whiplash is just] out of a Russian-zone prison.?e prison.?

Rourke even visited the Butyrka prison as research for the role. The character is said to incorporate elements of Crimson Dynamo from the comics. I?m assuming that they did this in order to use Dynamo?s Russian background to connect the character with Black Widow, who?s also Russian. Iron Man 2 has just reached the half-way point of principal photography. The film will hit theaters on May 7th 2010.

Iron Man 2 Set Visit

"I am Iron Man."

With those words at the end of the 2008 summer hit Iron Man, Tony Stark's future was irrevocably about to change. Moviegoers will find out how on May 7, 2010 when Iron Man 2 blasts onto the screen with plenty of familiar faces and a few new ones. Oh, did you doubt a sequel was coming? With an estimated $582 million worldwide box office gross, Iron Man secured the Marvel character's place as a ripe A-list property. Certainly, just reward for a film with a charismatic lead (embodied by Robert Downey Jr.), smart script and some pretty stellar FX.

With Iron Man 2, returning director Jon Favreau is fixing to recapture that first film's charm and deliver a transcendent superhero sequel. At Favreau's side is writer Justin Theroux, taking a crack at the genre for the first time, and returning cast members Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow and Samuel Jackson. Don Cheadle is stepping in as Rhodes this time (a role formerly played by Terrence Howard) and on the "heavy" side you've got Mickey Rourke as "Whiplash" and Sam Rockwell as industrialist Justin Hammer. For added sex appeal, they're throwing in Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow.

Is Favreau falling into the trap of adding too many elements to his once proven winning equation? That's just one question Superhero Hype! had in mind when we ventured down to Manhattan Beach where we found Favreau and company back on the soundstage and in Tony Stark's lab for a set visit. While there, we toured the remodeled lab, caught a few glimpses of some very interesting--and revealing--props and drooled over the new Iron Man suit. We also got a chance to speak with Favreau, Downey Jr. and Marvel's Kevin Feige (the producer) about Stark's latest adventure and the challenges he faces.

We'd love to tell you more, however, we have to remain tight-lipped for now. Simply know Favreau is piecing together what sounds like a layered, larger sequel that's steering Stark in the right emotional direction with a few surprises in store for the fans. Look for a full set report next month! In the meantime, "keep the skies clear," more Iron Man is on the way. (Coming Soon)

I still stand on what I said, it was Terrance Howard's role so I really do not feel like to commit anymore to the Ironman franchise. I ll see it when it comes out on DVD. To me is seems like a B movie now for switching actors. I compare it to Universal Soldier vs Universal Soldier 2 without Van Damme.

Not even man. While I think Terrance Howard should still be in it, he was a very minor character. It'd be different if they recast Tony Stark, than I'd agree with you. While I hate when they switch actors, it worked for Dark Knight. Katie Holmes might have been easy on the eyes but she's not the best actress. Cheadle is better than Howard but his build is what annoys me. Then again setting into a iron suit doesn't really require muscles.

I'll be seeing this opening night, on IMAX if I'm lucky.

Remember this article talking about how filming for Iron Man 2 was going to take place in Monaco during the Formula 1 Grand Prix? Scooper 'Don't Say' just sent us these exclusive photos of the replica racetrack set they are building at Downey Studios in Downey, California. (Coming Soon)
