Well not too sure why the touch would need 3G tbh, so I would take those rumours with a big pinch of salt. Apple have not long released the 2nd Gen Touch (Added a speaker and volume buttons plus a slight case redesign) so can't see them bringing out a 3rd Gen already.

With what you are saying in this rumour it is pretty much the iPhone without the ability to make calls. Those additions seem a bit too unlikely right now imho.

Rumours about future Apple product are just that - rumours. No one outside the Apple Campus really knows what they have in the queue. That being said it's only been 2 months since Apple refreshed the iPod line; further hardware updates before Christmas are unlikely.

The current second generation iPod Touch works very well (I have the 16 GB version). If I were you I'd buy the Touch now instead of waiting for the next generation.

I would buy the iPod touch now (either 16 GB or 32 GB models) and enjoy it, there's no sense waiting around for a revision that is several months down the road at least. Also, I can't see Apple providing GPS functionality in the iPod touch because it is one of the selling points for the iPhone, not to mention in order to access the EDGE/3G cellular data network you'd have to have a data plan with a carrier, in which case you'd be better off with an iPhone anyway.

i dont think gps will make it to the ipod touch. firstly, because, as marcellus said, its one of these things that seperates ipod touch and iphone plus of course for the phone... and, in order to access google maps, which would be the standart-maps app, which is already installed, you need a data connection for loading the map-data.

right now, via wifi, its alright but with gps, what would be the point? standing in the middle of nowhere with gps but no data connection to get the maps? ;)

accessing maps via wifi at a mcdonalds or starbucks - you know where youre at and can plan your next steps. but you really dont need gps there.

catching my drift? ;)

those rumors are false. what u have just described is already out there, the iphone. if u had to pay for 3g why on earth would u get a touch, that doesnt make calls? lets face it, the ipod touch is just that, an ipod.

+1

I have a 32 that i got from selling 2 8gb units. It is works great. I wish they would have enabled the bluetooth (the 32gb units have the chips, but they are turned off), and the keyboard interface could use some work.

I did find a blue tooth dongle for ipods for $20 on ebay, and now use my blue tooth head set, it works nice.

you use the bluetooth headset for what? (other than music lol) you can turn it into a skype phone???

ok guys, i think i will probably go for the the 32gb 2nd gen.. :)

how have you guys found the battery life on them?

Well here is your answer for the GPS part, check out Orange Gadgets

I'm thinking of getting an itouch as well, but waiting for "Black Friday" to see if I can get a deal.

I'm not going to get an iphone because there are no cell phones where I live. I visit countries that have cell phone coverage a couple times a year, but it's just easier to rent.

The iTouch 2nd Gen just got itself out not so long ago. There high changes to get a 3rd Gen (Not the network) in 4-6 months, but not before.

64GB is slightly possible, BT with A2DP would be orgasmic, but forget 3G and GPS.

Apple constantly refresh it's products, so you can't always wait, you need to get them one day or another. Right now it's the best time because they just did a refresh not so long ago.

So if you want one, get it now :)

The next big iPod Touch update most likely won't be until November, since that's when they usually refresh iPods. However, it is likely that they'll introduce a 64 GB version along with a 32 GB iPhone in January/February, if you really need 64 GB just wait until then and see what happens. The iPod Touch wil NEVER have 3G, since that is a CELLULAR data network, which is what the iPhone is!

I have an iPod Touch 1G (16GB) but don't necessarily like it. I'd prefer an iPhone so I don't have to carry my phone and iPod around all the time.

If you can afford the extra $100-$200 get an iPhone. Very good investment.

The prob with the iPhone is the contract and the cost of the data.

That rumored 64Gb Touch sounds awfully like an updated iPhone 3G to me :p not sure why a Touch would need Bluetooth, GPS and 3G for though? (as that would just make it an iPhone!) Still iPod Touch is a fantastic device and I say just get the 32Gb now (I have a 8Gb first gen Touch myself) you won't regret it. The only gripe I have with the Touch is it's abysmal battery life. I'm not sure about the second gen Touch, but the first gen could barely last a day with light usage :/ Still if you turn the WiFi off it does last a bit longer though.
