The running of a web server for your own learning, and or experimenting is highly recommended. Apache would be a great choice, IIS might be somewhat easier to get up and running for someone unfamiliar with web servers. And most likely you have everything you need to get one going - if you have a machine running a MS OS.

But I would suggest until you are confident with the administration and security of running your own webserver. You find a host that provides the services you are looking for, php, mysql, email, perl, .asp, etc.. etc.. at a price you can afford.

There is alot more to running a webserver than just clicking setup. And it todays world security should be priority one - needless to say most likely the running of a web server is against your ISPs AUP anyway.

Again I would suggest you play and tinker with any of the many web servers available - but before you make it available to the public net, have a complete understanding of what is involved in running a secure server.

All the world needs is another unsecured server open to the public ;)
