Red Ring of death after NXE update

Recommended Posts

I updated my 360 yesterday to NXE , after I left my 360 idle for about 3 hours I came back to finish working on my avatar I almost dropped dead when I saw the ring of death :x.

I decided to turned off my 360 and let it cool down. I turned it on again but about 20mins in I got a another ring of death  and followed one of the tutorials at xbox.com's support page. It told me to unplug all my power cables put them back in and make sure power supply is solid green, since then I was able to play gears for about 3 hours :shifty:.

I heard this is a known issue just wanted to know if anyone else had this happen to them ?

I really don't trust the towel method but I guess you have to try anything during desperate times . Thankfully my 360 is back up and running but I don't trust it. This is my second elite, the first one just stopped reading disc and started spitting them out, I guess green stands for possessed demon or something .

wow, man that sux! but it only took them a week from when i posted it to them to get it back, so hopefully the wait wont be too long. i toweled it and got another month out of it btw :)

So Australia have a 360 repair centre? That's great!

Oh and a couple days before the update, I got a one red bottom right light and an error message E58. My heart sunk so far upon sight of the screen when i came out of the kitchen. I shut it down and rebooted it and it had been fine since. What was that all about?

Hey Sk8bit have you called Microsoft yet? If so are they sending you the "coffin"? Apparantly I need to find one because their not sending one to me *Looks through dumpsters :p *

You can request that they send one to you, at least I could.

I wish mine would RRoD. Sure would be better than the random freezing and complete lockups.
I had that and I got it sent back. I was however out of warranty though so I had to pay for the service but it gave me a 12 month warranty extension.

A fair few games used to lock up but on release I bought Geometry Wars 3 and that game would lock up every time within 20 secs regardless of how often I cleared the cache, re downloaded or swapped between memory cards or the HDD. Eventually got fed up and making note of both geometry wars 2 and the sporadic nature in other games I proceeded to get it repaired.

Well is it an issue? I haven't read yet of any widespread RROD epidemic as a result of NXE. I mean this user went through the update seemingly fine and found the console dead several hours later so it's plausible, if not likely, that it was going to die anyway.

I didn't request a coffin yet, I'f it rings again then I might just throw it out the windows because it would be the next bad one they sent me .

That's the thing. RRoD's are so common with the 360 that it's almost impossible to say exactly what caused it.

However, with the increase in post about the RRoD and other problems right after the update, I think it's fairly safe to assume that the NXE is the cause of some problems.

But the rise in posts and console deaths could have a lot to do with a rise in the number of people using the XBox due to

a) The rise increase in games released this past month.

b) People who don't use the XBox overly often doing so in order to get NXE.

c) Holiday season coming up probably allowing people to use the console more. Uni for me for instance finished two weeks ago.

I'd be willing to put money on it being A, B or C before concluding that it's an NXE problem. With 20 million consoles out there if NXE was killing even part of a percent of those consoles it would be all over every gaming site atm. Besides some marketplace stability issues but for the most part thats all I've seen in the press in regards to issues.

Well I guess option B would be me, I started playing more often when NXE came out until the next day I recieved the red lights and its my first red lights :D

OMGHAX? :o

I don't finish until like the 20th of December or something ridiculous :p

Yeah but now I'm starting full time work and we had the worst storms here in 25 years last Sunday which left me without power until Wed and even caused the tap water to be declared unsafe for several days. Haha wasn't playing my 360 I'll tell yah. Went and got a PSP but to kill time.

And in a week I start full time work. Grr.

hey Smigit, you live near the Gap? man that sux for you guys, i went though there on Friday, looked like a war zone, tarps on every home, massive flooding, army and SES everywhere and no power for a few days!! god bless you lol

be careful, there are forecast more intense winds and possible storms tonight and tomorrow night buddy

Well, this could be just MS yet again flushing out any other RRoD'ing units out there with a new update. This has happend before with other updates also.

Still, I think the fact people get their system back from repairs so fast (unlike how it was at the start) shows a good sign that the % of RRoDs has dropped alot.

Or maybe i'm just being optimistic yet again.

Yeah I'm right in the Gap, Payne Rd area so we were among the last places to get power back and that. Fortunately most houses in my immediate area are ok but the creek bed thats opposite the street basically got levelled and blocked 85% of the houses from being able to drive anywhere for a day. Basically one side of the street is houses, the other bush so none of the trees managed to go far enough to hit properties but they blocked the road in half a dozen plus places.

Was quite a sight to behold.

I have a friend who graduated last year. He took his 1st week off work as a break and to coincide with Wrath of the Lich King only to spend over half that week without electricity. Haha.
