driver issue, need help

Recommended Posts

i have a internal flash drive on a desktop running xp, it is my understanding that if the flash drive is recognized as a disk/hard drive then i can effectively use it to hold the page file. being recognized as a removable disk drive does not allow the flash drive to hold the page file even if set, i know this because the the free space within the drive does not go down when set. i think this has something to do with the disk drivers being loaded before the page file is created during system boot, and the removable storage drivers being loaded after it is created. is there a way i can force the flash drive to use a different driver so that i can use it as i said?

any input would be gladly appreciated.

mind you i had this working with a old old ...old first gen flash drive lexar jumpdrive which was recognized like i said, this flash drive is a newer 2 gb generic model

Vista has this built in with ReadyBoost.

I always thought Flash drives are limited on the amount of read/writes before they fail. Not to mention your HDD should have faster transfer rates than the flash drive.

You can try this: http://wizardcreations.wordpress.com/2007/...as-a-page-file/

Or google ReadyBoost for XP.

I personally wouldn't even mess with this at all. If your system is running slow or you have too large of a page file... either lower it, or clean up your computer. I've gone years without using these flash drives, and my laptop still runs IIS 6.0 like a champ.
