Gaius
The rumors are flying about 2.2 being jailbreakable when installed a certain way. If you have a Second-Gen device, don't update it via iTunes when the update comes out tomorrow or risk not being able to jailbreak the second gen devices, which have yet to be jailbroken! I can't wait to get some Cydia apps on my iPod Touch 2G http://www.iphone-hacks.com/2008/11/17/iph...ng-firmware-22/ Edited November 21, 2008 by Gaius Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/699766-dont-install-iphone-update-22-if-you-want-to-jailbreak-your-2g/ Share on other sites

I was wondering if you could help clear up a question I had. My iPhone 3G currently has a QuickPwned firmware v2.1 installed (with baseband 02.11.07). Am I already out of luck for the upcoming software unlock form the Dev Team (leaving me free to update to v2.2 and QuickPwn without any further consequences) or should I try to get my hands on a PwnageTool created custom firmware without the baseband update (which will be hard considering I don't have a Mac). Yes, unfortunately it's likely you're out of luck since the later baseband updates do block the holes we're using to prepare for the potential software unlock. That said, if you want to retain any hope - who knows, an exploit may eventually be found - use PwnageTool to create a custom IPSW without the baseband update. If you don't care and are happy with the official carrier you're on, update using iTunes and then use QuickPwn to jailbreak. Neztea
Yeah! Sorry that I'm late to the party, just finished updating to 2.2 using the pwnagetool. I want to keep the old baseband so I can software unlock it in the future. Though I did have some weird problems with it though. I was using a powerbook G4 for the whole ordeal as to keep the original baseband...hopefully that was the case. updated to 2.2 with a custom ipsw using the pwnagetool. I went into the DFU and updated it. But then My ipod would be sporatic and then it would be stuck in the boot screen. So then I booted the iphone 3g back into DFU mode and tried to update it again but would get the itunes 1600 error. This basically made me **** a brick, knowing I probably just screwed over my iphone. So then I check to find out what the 1600 error was all about. Apparently you have to boot into the recovery mode (not DFU) and restore the Iphone in that manner. So i restored the Iphone using the custom ipsw with itunes by holding down the option key. I did that and restored the Iphone once again. Now, it seems to be working perfectly and I have not had a hiccup yet. So, how does one check to see if his baseband has been preserved using a jailbroken iphone with 2.2? Do I have to go into terminal and see for my self cause I'm curious to see if I didn't mess it up :( Neztea Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/699766-dont-install-iphone-update-22-if-you-want-to-jailbreak-your-2g/#findComment-590183126 Share on other sites

Rob Veteran Posted November 26, 2008 Veteran Share Posted November 26, 2008 So, how does one check to see if his baseband has been preserved using a jailbroken iphone with 2.2? Do I have to go into terminal and see for my self cause I'm curious to see if I didn't mess it up :( Go into Settings > General > About and look at 'Modem Firmware'. If it's 02.28.00, then you've got the baseband update that came with firmware 2.2. If it's anything under that, then you successfully created a custom IPSW without the baseband update.
