iPhone 2.2 Update Maps showing KM instead of Miles

Recommended Posts

Hi All

Ive just installed the 2.2 firmware on a 3G iPhone.

Ive discovered that the maps application will now show all directions in Kilometers and not Miles (Im based in the UK).

Ive tried changing the international settings to USA and then back to UK (complete with iphone switching off and on) however the directions are still stuck in Kilometers!

Anyone have the same problem or more importantly know how to fix it?

Currently my iPhone is set to United Kingdom in Internation Settings.

Many Thanks for any help.

Well the UK isn't too bad with the metric system, really we only have human weight (measure in stones, although thats moving to kilograms), Distance and speed (MPH and miles) and human height (feet and inches) Most of everything has been moved over to kilograms, meters etc..

However if you've been brought up on miles and MPH, using KM is a real pain!

I hope there is a fix for this soon, as the new on foot and by public transport directions were what i was really looking forward to in this release.

Ok, so I searched for a US address (1 Infinite Loop), and the pushpin label gave the street view option.

Is Street View not available on Canada??

EDIT:::

Places in France work with Street View.

Got one for Anchorage, Alaska. Freakin' Boise Butt**** Idaho, too.

Nothing for even major Canadian centers like Toronto or Montreal.

Lame.

The UK's slowly converting all their stuff to metric, but there's still opposition.

Google doesn't care for that opposition apparently (And neither do I, the only reason people still seem to want to use Imperial is tradition)

Edit: Apparently the only reason road signs are still in imperial, is because it would cost too much to update them.

For those of you having trouble getting Street View open in Google Maps on 2.2.

Please note, the iPod Touch 1 or 2 does NOT support Street View AT ALL! Don't ask, don't complain!!

Here are the instructions:

1) Drop a pin somewhere, or search for a location.

2) Tap the pin to bring up the info, etc.

3) Tap this:

4) Enjoy Street View!!

NB: Only works in areas with Google Street View. If you can't get Street View on your computer, it won't work on iPhone either. Don't whine about this either!

    • Population especially in high density areas creates more heat and more humidity. This can be noticed in an indoor arena or concert room which heats up when the room or arena fills with people, without air conditoning to cool it down, Watering of lawns creates more humidity as the moisture from the watering rises into the atmosphere, creating a more humid condition. The again, depopulating an arena or room after an event will drop the temperature inside. Desert areas are less humid for a number of reasons, including a lower population density. Tel Aviv has horrible weather, unless you like it hot and humid. Summer days are regularly 90+ F with humidity well over 70%. It is probably not as bad as Mississippi but still it is bad enough.

    • I hear you on browser password manager, in my case I have two Google profiles, one was created when Google decided to grandfather us out of Workspace for Domains (with the replacement being too expensive for 25 users) resulting in my domain email address no longer being able to be registered to a new Workspace I created (for myself and another co-owner) so I could use Takeout and sync over some stuff to the new Workspace. Then I have my personal Google profile which I could be logged into on my desktop or Mobile, so I am saving passwords on one or the other, and when an URL changes another password for the same service gets added, it basically ends up being a giant mess. Unless I missed something is there a local decent password manager that can override the browser password managers for Chrome, Edge, Firefox (profiles) so that there is only one vault, and does that also support Passkeys (which to me are still confusing because sometimes it will ask for a Passkey on a phone I am no longer using!) Microsofts implementation of Passkeys is the worst!
    • It's utterly baffling that we have no idea when we'll get new features even well after they've been released. Why Microsoft thinks this is a good rollout strategy is beyond me.
    • If it makes anybody happy, others will need to be bitter about it. (apologies to Yogi Berra)
