I think I'm gonna make the jump

Recommended Posts

I'm the happy owner of a 360 since its beginnings ( I got 16 games right now and bought around 30 so I know my way ;) ). But more and more I've been watching what's going on on Sony's side and I think I'm about to buy a PS3 with LBP and MGS4.

Is there anything I'm missing or should know about ?

P.S. :

here's the games I already own on 360:

Gears of War 2

Beautiful Katamari

Burnout Paradise

GTA 4

Saints Row 2

Saints Row

Fight Night 3

Eternal Sonata

Table Tennis

Forza motorsport 2

And some other gamez I don't remember :)

Stone wall advice, wait till around Christmas.

Buying right now is suicide, seeing as in the run up to Christmas you'll have bundles left/right/center. Or even after Christmas in the January sales.

As long as you like the games coming out on the console, you won't see a vastly different experience from the 360, at least not that of which you'd get from going from a PS2 or Wii. Both are hardcore consoles targeting similar markets.

I think this good time is exactly why kazuyette is thinking of getting it, i am sure there will be good offers launched in France too . :)

Right now i can snatch a pack with a PS3/80 a DS3 with LBP for 409? (around 515$ according to google). And I think aboot buying MGS4 and a little hdmi cable for good mesure on my 32&quot:):).

Yeah I'ma grab one when I move out in Jan/Feb next year. Anyway at least locally I expect a decent price drop to happen within the next month. MS just dropped the prices of the Xbox to $280AU, 400AU and 550AU for the Arcade, Pro and Elite with the later two coming with 3 or 4 games (and decent ones). I can't see Sony being able to remain competitive here selling the machine at $688 still with a single game, not at over twice the cost of an arcade or almost $300 more than an XBox pro.

Actually I made a bet with my friends that we'd see a $100AU drop at least by the 1st of Dec.

Looking to get resistance 1 + 2, Uncharted, LBP, Killzone 2 (eventually) and MGS4

Besides the two games you mentioned, what other good games does the PS3 have?

I mean, in the recent months, 360 has been flooded with many great games?

Besides Fable 2 and Gears, what game does the 360 have "in recent months" that isn't cross-platform?

Yeah... None.

Er,

Left 4 Dead

Banjo

The Last Remnant

to name a few!

However, Kazuyette, it's up to you really. The PS3 does have some games coming out such as Resistance 2 this year and Killzone 2 next year. Also, the games library for older titles on the PS3 would be cheap since most have been out for a while such as Resistance and others. Although, waiting till closer to Christmas might be more wise due to better bundles possibly.

Besides the two games you mentioned, what other good games does the PS3 have?

Games I've bought this year which are reviewed as Good -> Great titles.

Resistance 2

LBP

Motorstorm Pacific Rift

MGS4

Wipeout HD

Siren: Blood Curse

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue

The only admission to the trend of scoring well is I bought Socom: Confrontation. A lot of it's problems have been fixed (and more will be), so it's maybe worth a gamble, and to get the headset.

Games I haven't bought that have scored well

Valkyria Chronicles

Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction

Buzz! Quiz TV

Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds

So there's definitely 2008 content to check out if you're interested, coupled with what good games hit in 2007 (less of them, but there's still a few, notably Uncharted).

Good choice (Y)

I'm always one to support getting all of the consoles if you can afford it (though I emphasize the 360 and PS3 over the Wii). They each have their good exclusives, and if you prefer one over the other you can always get multi-platform games for that one.

First impressions : My GF is going to luv Singstar ( we tried a duet ... ;) ), LBP is teh cute but even if we can D/L an awful lot of stuff ( including full games for PS3 ) which is really cool, the navigation is a REAL pain when compared to XBL. I haven't tried MGS4 yet ...

You probably should of waited really for more games to come out.

IMO you just brought the two biggest disappointment games for the PS3 in 2008 (and yes i own both of them)

I'd give it about a month then you will go back to the 360 while the PS3 gathers dust or you use it for F@H only which many here do.

Hope you enjoy your purchase though :) I am sure the gf is going to like singstar.

LBP and MGS4 are really good, enjoy :)

Some quick and updated impressions after my week end playing with MGS4, LBP and some demos :

For starters, I've hooked my PS3 to my 32" via HDMI and got the audio via my Yamaha RXV-363 + NSP-270.

- installation was fairly easy and the audio/video setup went like a breeze.

- No more nuclear reactor to hide ( a.k.A the power adapter of the 360)

- Subscribing to the PSN with the console was easy but long (due to writing a lot of stuff with the pad).

- The Playstation Store is a real mess when compared to the Xbox Live Marketplace ( I own a 360 since its european debut).

- I haven't found yet if there was trials available for the "Xbox Live Arcade" games of the Ps Store ( please point me the right place if there's any ;) )

- The DS3 feel feels like a real joypad and not a toy like the first Sixaxis even if I can't thinkingabout the L2 and R2 triggers being badly implemented.

- Playing HD content without losing hours to convert it so you can keep 5.1 sound is a real pleasure thanks to GotSent.

- I can feel the beautiful sensation of playing games with a hot and sexy DTS sound ( last time was with SSX Tricky on the PS2 )

- I'm IMPRESSED by mgs4 and its EXCEPTIONAL audio/video presentation, and the gameplay too but am I too dumb ( last MGS played was the second episode and also the first one ) or the game is a bit hard even on normal difficulty ?

- The XMB can be a little scary for someon not really tech savvy ( not my case :p ) with a bit too much settings.

You could have made the account on the PC to save time before you went to get it. :p

I don't think the Store is that messy, but could still be organised better, but that could be said of anything, at least you aren't having to deal with it when it was back in website form, lol.

There aren't really many demos for the Smaller PSN games, which is a little iffy sometimes, but they usually appear eventually, but if you can't find a demo of something, either look on-line or come and ask us what we think.

The Triggers aren't the best, if you can find some, see about getting some Gioteck Real Triggers.

After buying them a few months ago, I haven't taken them off since, lol.

I've never had a problem with the XMB myself, at first I kept pressing right to get further into a menu when selecting, but got use to it, its very simple to use, if you need any help setting options etc just ask, i'm sure someone will know the answers.

Hope you enjoy your purchase. :D

    • I have been thinking about AI detector tools as a software workflow rather than a single "AI score" widget. When someone pastes text or uploads a document, the UI can return a report with a probability-style score, sentence highlights, reliability notes, and limitations. The useful part is that it can point a reviewer toward passages worth reading again. The risky part is that a polished score can look more certain than it really is. For people who build or review web apps, what should happen before the user copies or exports that kind of report? The minimum I would expect is: A clear input boundary for pasted text versus document files. Limits shown near the workflow, including minimum text length and maximum file size. A report label that says the result is a signal, not proof of who wrote the text. Sentence highlights and evidence notes alongside the global score. Reliability notes when the sample is too short or lacks enough sentence variety. False-positive and false-negative caveats that remain visible in copied/exported summaries. I am trying to avoid the pattern where a clean report card becomes the whole product story. For AI detection, "review this evidence in context" seems more honest than "trust this score." Would you keep the warning text visible on every report, or make it collapsible so the main result stays easier to scan? Disclosure: I work on a small AI detector/reporting workflow, but I am intentionally not linking it here. I am asking about software and report design, not promoting a site.
