Prosidius
So back on topic... Yes I do think its possible to play WoW casually and maintain a life at the same time. How do I know? My neighbor plays casually and has a life. Now unfortunately that doesnt apply to me but whatever. :p Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/700188-is-it-possible-to-play-wow-casually/page/2/#findComment-590180878 Share on other sites
dead.cell
Yeah, but you have to be able to control yourself. Keep things prioritized in life and in moderation. This. I play regularly, but with school, I haven't touched it in about a week now. Only messed with Fallout 3 as a sort of small break that I get. Can't wait for the semester to be over. 8 week courses suuuuck. I do have a couple friends who simply won't play it because they fear the addiction. They're the types of people who can really get into a game nonstop. Stinky Newb, darkz: get it together guys. Enough bitching. Imnotrichey
I think you can. I only play an hour or two a night on weekdays (not every night) and then maybe a little more on weekends. I just have one simple rule: I only run instances on weekends. It does get hard when people say "well this instance only takes a half hour" or whatever. But to me, the time it actually takes is always longer than how long they say it should take, so I just always pass. However, I will admit once you reach the level cap it gets a little harder to play casually cause of the end game stuff takes more time. That is why I stopped playing (didn't play for about 18 months) when I reached 60. I didn't have the time for those long raids and there didnt seem to be much else for me to do since I reached 60. SMELTN
If it wasn't possible to play wow casually, then Blizz wouldn't have tuned the game to be more casual than hardcore... end of discussion Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/700188-is-it-possible-to-play-wow-casually/page/2/#findComment-590181112 Share on other sites
That Guy Veteran Posted November 25, 2008 Veteran Share Posted November 25, 2008 Interesting discussion. I've never played World of Warcraft, simply because I've heard (and seen) the effects it can have on people, and I know that if I started playing it I would be tempted to play more... and more. It seems to be growing in popularity though, and I'm interested in how it will carry on. gigapixels Veteran Posted November 25, 2008 Veteran Share Posted November 25, 2008 Yes. I'm not sure why there are more no votes. I've never played it more than casually. Granted, I only ever got one character to 70, but still, it's possible and still quite fun. Olemus
I play it very casually nowadays, an hour a night maximum usually unless I manage to get into a good raiding group and then im on 4-5 hours that night. It all depends, if you have an addictive nature then no stay away, but if you can control yourself then go for it. KiHu
I have to say that I find WoW to be quite hard to pay casually, its so hard to balance it all because things take time etc. RP - Long roleplay sessions, people get ****ed if you leave in the middle of something PvE - Raids/Instancing takes some hours. Leveling would take forever. PvP - Leaving in the middle of a arena match/battleground doesent give you that much. Matrix XII
It is possible, you just have to have willpower to stop playing it when you have other tasks to do. Now for about 95% it isn't possible to play casually because that game is just so darn addictive. MightyJordan
I think it's possible. I've done it before. Played WoW for about half an hour, got bored of it, uninstalled it, and vowed to never play it again! :D Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/700188-is-it-possible-to-play-wow-casually/page/2/#findComment-590190770 Share on other sites

greg098
I don't think its possible for a lot of people to play casual especially if your a high level. The reason I say this is because I had a level 70 holy priest in a end game guild. I was always asked to help them with things and it took up a lot of time and I found I had didn't really have time to do stuff I wanted to do so I would spend longer then normal on the game to get more things done and minutes turned into hours and so on. There you go. LOL, the worst is when you play because you feel obligated to play. SMELTN
There you go. LOL, the worst is when you play because you feel obligated to play. That was my biggest problem the last 3-4 months I played.. I was the Guild Leader of a large guild trying to finish up Sunwell before WoTLK came out.... and I felt a huge obligation to be there, every single raid for 4-5 hours a night 5 nights a week, and eventually it burnt me out and I quit right before Wraith came out. Julienprz
If you plan to play alone then "yes". But there is plenty offline games to do it. If you plan to play it as a MMO you can't do casual mode. I've tried the casual play 2 years ago, i've been playing with some friends. I was in casual mode, they weren't. Results : After 2 weeks i reached the lvl 21, they were at 45. Eric Veteran Posted November 29, 2008 Veteran Share Posted November 29, 2008 I play maybe 4-5 hours a week, or if my friends have time maybe 8-10 hours for a week once a month. If I don't feel like playing or don't have time I don't. I don't usually bother with instances or raids because they take too long and get boring. I'll hit 80 whenever I get there. :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/700188-is-it-possible-to-play-wow-casually/page/2/#findComment-590200712 Share on other sites
Brad.
My friend plays way too much. Specially since WoTLK came out. Got from 78-79 in 2 days iirc. Not sure if that's good or bad but meh. Up to him what he does :p Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/700188-is-it-possible-to-play-wow-casually/page/2/#findComment-590200720 Share on other sites
