Problems with Seagate 500GB

Recommended Posts

Sometimes when I copy files it would suddenly slow down and come to a halt.

Sometimes it would just disappear. I have no idea what's wrong with it.

I ran all the Seatools tests, and nothing seems to be wrong.

Is it dying on me?

I thought maybe it's the PSU, but it's not likely, since there is just 1 drive out of 3 having problems.

any ideas?

It really might be the power supply. Are you daisy chaining the power between the hard drives? Try removing one of the other hard drives, also see if there are any plugs that aren't powering something that draws a lot of power. It seems like you might be maxing out the wires. How big is your power supply?

I'm not chaining the power between the hard drives. Thing is this stupid problem happens for a couple of hours, and then I don't hear from it for a week.

The PSU is a Thermaltake 550W. It's pretty new, and I only have 3 drives, a 45nm Core 2 Duo, and a Radeon 3450HD. Oh and a couple of 120mm fans, and a 200mm fan. (Antec 900)

And yea, I did the long test.

This is what happens when i open the Seatools and while using Total Commander while the drive "hangs"

Notice that the problem is the second drive.

The first's a raptor, and the third is also a 500GB Seagate.

sometimes the drive also disappears from the sidebar widget

and the error on total commander after a couple of minutes of being stuck
