What gamma settings do you use in Mac OS X?

I'm curious to know, what gamma settings does everyone use on Mac OS X these days? I heard it is being switched to 2.2 in Snow Leopard by default.

System Preferences > Display > Color, which color profile are you using? The default is "Color LCD" and it uses 1.8.

If you're not working with print, you should be at 2.2.

1.8 - just is easier on the eyes - but I never really use my Mac anyway...

Im guessing im using 1.8 as i didnt even know anything about this. What is the difference between the two, i use my mac for editing photos before i give them to clients/upload them. Am i using the right profile??

A gamma of 2.2 is what PCs use by default I believe, it is a bit darker in terms of shadows (someone who is a professional photographer that knows gamma settings should be able to explain this).

Whatever the default is, colour correction makes everything look fine.

Edit: How do you even find out?, the default profile for my eMac says 2.1, and the profile for my LCD says 2.2

I'm using a custom color profile that is neither 1.8 nor 2.2.

Yes.

But how many users actually do that?

Well with OS X at least it's done automatically by a whole bunch of software, Photoshop should do it out of the box, Safari and Firefox (in the next version) do it automatically for tagged images, etc.

Speaking of colours, am I the only one noticing the default colour profile treat greys way too orange-y?
