10 REASONS to pay 15 bucks to play WoW?

Recommended Posts

There's only one reason you should: you like it.

If you like it and $15/month seems reasonable to you, do it. You shouldn't need an arbitrary list of reasons to push you toward it.

If you haven't tried it, get a hold of the 10-day trial and see what you think. That would be the best way to decide.

1. It can be addictive, and thus skew your priorities (my friend had to quit his FFXI mmorpg addiction and he learned the hard way in college).

2. I hear it costs $15 per month. Not sure if they have discounted subscription packages, but yearly if you pay monthly it'll ring you up around $180.

3. Nothing belongs to you in the end.

Edit: These three reasons can fit pretty much all MMORPG's. If you think you have self control, try the trial out.

Hi. I am considering whether to join WoW. I have read the other WOW thread. Can ya seasoned players out there give me some reasons to play? Other than paying to get addicted?

You dont need any reasons to play. There's a free trial, so you just try it and if you like it.. you buy it.

Now that WotLK is released here are some reasons not to pay $15 dollars a month, and some reasons to also do so.

1) It takes 15 million exp to get from 70-80. Now imagine how much it will take to get to 1-80.

2) By the time you hit 80, everyone will severely overgear you, if you play in moderation.

3) There are TONS of 14 year olds that cannot understand how to play, and are extremely annoying, and mouthbreathers....

4) I played for 2 years. I just recently quit, here is what I lost and gained due to this videogame:

Lost:

1) 2 Girlfriends.

2) Didn't see several movies in theatres that I had been waiting for, for years.

3) Time spent with my dying father.

4) Several very good friends.

5) I use to be able to create extremely intricate ink pen drawings at the drop of a hat, I now can barely draw stick figures.

6) I'm quite sure my IQ went down while staring at my monitor constantly & doing the same thing ingame, over and over, and over again.

7) Lost roughly 450 dollars over 2 years due to subscription fees & character transfers.

8) And overall, about 9,000 hours of time better spent doing something to better my life, and get me ahead. ( 12 hours of playing a day, 7 days week for 2 years. )

Gained:

1) Lost 60 pounds over 2 years.

Thats about it for gained, I cannot think of anything else remotely positive after playing for 2 years.

If you plan on playing, I recommend using the parental controls and setting time limits for hours of play a day... If not, odds are a lot of my negative outcomes from playing will happen to you as well. Play in moderation for the love of yourself.

I feel like playing it ATM, haven't played since march but dont want to get it before all my assignments are complete.

The only reason why I quit was that it was full of little kids that didn't know anything and wouldn't shut up.

Is there a trial for the WOTLK? or is it just pre-tbc?

To be fair,

1) They have made changes to the old world (Azeroth) which makes leveling happen much quicker.

2) Depending on how you want to play, you can easily gain good gear (Arenas, battlegrounds, 5 and 10 mans, etc.)

3) That's true of ANY game, not just MMORPGs - take a look at CS:S for example

As for the OP - just about everyone has given the best advice - download the trial and play it. If you like it, then pay the money. You can get discounted subscriptions by paying for 3, 6, or 12 months in advance.

wow, that stuff really is like heroin.

except for wow's cheaper :p

good you came down

A friend of mine plays WoW, he used to be a really good guy as a teenager, now this is what he's like:

He's not had a job in ages and when he does have a job, he just bunks to play WoW.

He's 22 years old and he's never even been kissed (or smiled at) by a woman.

He looks like he's about 5 stone.

When he does come out, if any violence or arguments ensue, good old england, he gets a nose bleed instantly.

He'd much rather RAID then come out with friends.

He didnt know who Obama was.

His house got broken into while his parents were on holiday he didnt realise for three days, Police laughed at him, LMAO.

When I started dating a girl he had a "Crush" on (who the hell has crushes at 22?) he pushed his Monitor on the floor and wouldn't talk to me anymore.

He has no social skills, when he does come out he sits there quiet and then occasionally says stuff like, My Mage can do that!

He's the rudest person I've ever met, I was telling him about an iPhone application i'm developing, all had to say about it was "I dont care".

If World War Three kicks off any time soon and conscripting comes back he'd try and take a sick note in from his mum.

I personally used to play an MMO, FFXI, and my ex ran off to Florida to be with some guy she met over there. Since then, i've always hated MMOs and what they do to people. Seriously, it's just wrong.

all true except your edit... guild wars is a fantastic game that's not addictive and doesn't cost you every month. if you get into the pvp or better yet gvg aspect of the game there is too much to think about and keep up with and you will never be addicted to it cause your brain will hurt.

    • Cheap labour, the same as the U.K. China pays their people pittance.
    • Those people that come over here on boats are already in a safe country, if they want to come over here then do so correctly though the right channels. I was born in the U.K, my family that came over here came so via the proper means. My partner came here via the correct channels, she also became a British citizen, she knows more about this country than most of them that was born here, including myself, she worked hard to do what she does. She will stick up for this country and have done a few times, when people from her own part of world have put the U.K down. We are not going to agree, all I said to start with is that maybe Trump has the right idea with this America first thing and maybe we should start doing the same. Maybe not as drastic as what he is doing, but we do need to sort this country out, we need to sort out tech instead of relying on the U.S and others. Again you have not shown why you are so annoyed that we have left the E.U and this is what it is all about? If you don't live in the U.K and live in the E.U are you annoyed that we left your little club? If you live in the U.K and is pro-E.U, then fair enough then I can see how it annoys you. Are you one of these people who lives in the U.K and have a holiday chalet in the E.U and can now only stay there for so long? If so, then that is bad luck. As I have posted before, I have no problem with people coming here to work, as long as they do if via the proper channels. We are out of the E.U, people voted out, and maybe if more people had voted instead of sitting on their backsides the results would have been different. But they like the E.U and our government thought no we would not vote to leave. How wrong they were, surprised me. I expected to wake up in the morning and hear on the radio that we voted to stay. As I said, we are out and have been for 10 years, we are not going to go back in anytime soon if we ever do, so we all need to make the best of how things are. Anyway, this is supposed to be a tech site.
    • Tim Cook: "The US over time began to stop having as many vocational kinds of skills." What's the point of wasting time getting those skills if you can't get a job with them? Good Lord, maybe he and his cohort of CEO's who exported all these jobs to China should just shut the f**k up :D
    • I made a new Cinematic/Trailer for the game, this will be the intro, still a work in progress!  I also updated the Steam page with a ton of new screenshots! 👀 https://store.steampowered.com/app/3925340/Incoherence_Dark_Rooms/
