10 REASONS to pay 15 bucks to play WoW?

Recommended Posts

Just try the free trial.

Also, what is your MMORPG resume? What is your favorite MMORPG? This way we can see if WoW will fit the mold for you.

And I'm gonna put a stand out there, if you're a normal adult with a regular job, $15/a month is absolutely nothing. Cut back on 2 Mcdonalds meals, 2-3 beers at the bar, or two lunch purchases, then viola. Of course if you're a college student/teenager then it'd be a totally different situation. Then again, college students/teenagers spend too much on things they shouldn't be anyway.

I told everyone in my guild I was quitting after I had a kid.

I simply can't think of how I could make time for both. There's simply no way possible with my busy schedule. I'd play in moderation in the past, but still...when you have guilds that want to constantly raid, or you want to level multiple toons, etc., it really takes up your time.

I still did plenty of other stuff, but I could see how it would consume your life with no moderation.

Not like this is typical, but here's a few notes of interest:

I've seen couples (that are parents) play WoW all day long on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day while their young daughter plays with other relatives because they are so addicted to the WoW action.

And I've seen the couples that get together and form a relationship after divorcing their former's and somehow find love inside of WoW. I guess it also doubles as a dating site - ahh, WoW love. :huggles

But I do miss the game, and haven't played it for like 8 months. I liked it when there was less politics involved. the game play is fun for me - but the politics are crappy. That's all relative though so...that's kind of it. I miss the game, but not the politics. I want to play it, but don't want to play it. The bottom line is that I don't have the time to play it and probably will make a point of not making time to play the game anymore.

I guess on the plus side, my house is a whole lot cleaner and my plants seem to live longer now :D

Now that WotLK is released here are some reasons not to pay $15 dollars a month, and some reasons to also do so.

1) It takes 15 million exp to get from 70-80. Now imagine how much it will take to get to 1-80.

2) By the time you hit 80, everyone will severely overgear you, if you play in moderation.

3) There are TONS of 14 year olds that cannot understand how to play, and are extremely annoying, and mouthbreathers....

4) I played for 2 years. I just recently quit, here is what I lost and gained due to this videogame:

Lost:

1) 2 Girlfriends.

2) Didn't see several movies in theatres that I had been waiting for, for years.

3) Time spent with my dying father.

4) Several very good friends.

5) I use to be able to create extremely intricate ink pen drawings at the drop of a hat, I now can barely draw stick figures.

6) I'm quite sure my IQ went down while staring at my monitor constantly & doing the same thing ingame, over and over, and over again.

7) Lost roughly 450 dollars over 2 years due to subscription fees & character transfers.

8) And overall, about 9,000 hours of time better spent doing something to better my life, and get me ahead. ( 12 hours of playing a day, 7 days week for 2 years. )

Gained:

1) Lost 60 pounds over 2 years.

Thats about it for gained, I cannot think of anything else remotely positive after playing for 2 years.

If you plan on playing, I recommend using the parental controls and setting time limits for hours of play a day... If not, odds are a lot of my negative outcomes from playing will happen to you as well. Play in moderation for the love of yourself.

And yet he still plays.

Hey, did anyone give ten reason to buy World of Warcraft yet? I didn't think so. Everyone seems to have some pretty scary stories about life-destroying gaming, but I must admit I never understood why. I tried the 10-day (don't remember if it was exactly ten days) and I strongly disliked it, I didn't even care to play it to the end,I think it just takes your time without giving anything back, it has no quality. People just keep playing because they want to make better characters and accomplish stuff, they're not having fun other than the occasional raid or PvP.

Why play WoW when you could be playing a quality game?

I think it just takes your time without giving anything back

It's the medium of entertainment. You put time in and get enjoyment out. I don't expect WoW to make my tea, ride me like a donkey and bring me out for a movie.

People just keep playing because they want to make better characters and accomplish stuff, they're not having fun other than the occasional raid or PvP.

So there is two reasons then? heh.

People enjoy WoW and you don't like it. Why do you feel the need to beat your chest and point out your having more fun than them then?

Calm down, I'm not sure you understand what I'm saying. Obviously what I meant in that first quote is that it isn't worth the hours people put into it in terms of entertainment value, you're exaggerating just a little bit. The reasons people keep playing an MMORPG isn't the same reasons why they should initially want to play an MMORPG. People don't buy games because they want to spend hours leveling up and raking in accomplishments, but in the end thats what they do. Its pretty clear that playing a game only to make your character more powerful isn't healthy gaming and is the root of addiction. People lose track of why they really play a game, games give you goals (such as leveling up and collecting X items), and people want to accomplish them, even when its not fun.

I have tried Wow, I liked it. But, I just didn't have time to lvl up, If you think 15 bucks is reasonable, (Witch I think it is, I spend more at fast food in a week, or forgetting something at the store and having to drive there again, gas is still expensive) then try the trial, and see if you like it, I recommend buy the 60 day game cards, as it's the same price and you don't have to worry about, a credit card on the account. As everyone has been saying, play in moderation, with some self control. As you don't wanna end up, fat, lonely, and without a job.

Well, I gave it up after a couple of months playing, but plan to get back into it soonish..

That said, I refuse to let myself play for more than a couple of hours or so many days in a row..

As well as the fact I wont be participating in any raids to ensure I don't become addicted..

I've got too much to lose if I become addicted to a game like WoW!

Raa's post in the other thread is accurate, and I've always held the opinion; If I want to see a friend, I'd much rather go have lunch or hang with them down town or something rather than see their avatar on a game...

Maybe thats just me though lol

I have a few reservations about starting again, but like Raa has said, in small ammounts, it can be a very fun game!

The kiddie community that holds the game in its grimy little grasp doesn't help either.

What?

stats say this is more addictive than crack or heroin .. be careful

What stats? Going to spew facts, back 'em up.

Sounds like a bunch of people who don't know how to do anything in moderation.

Bob is smart.

There is one reason you should not buy WoW: Your life will end. I'm serious. It's suicide.

Really? Do you got some "real life friend" story like the ones below, to tell us? (not saying they are fake just saying they generic stories told about all WoW players but yet I haven't meet a single person in-game like the described nor have I heard from anyone in-game that knows/knew somebody like the mentioned stories below).

1. They made it easier, and it's part of the game to level up to 80.

2. With the ease of dungeons, heroics, and PvP and the introduction of 10 man raids, you can get geared pretty quick and be up to 'par' with others.

3. Really? Glad you know people's ages even though there is no way to actually learn them unless they tell you, or you just assumed.

Lost:

1) 2 Girlfriends.

2) Didn't see several movies in theatres that I had been waiting for, for years.

1. Can't mean much if you choosed a game over them.

2. Sounds like that's your fault for choosing to play a game over going to the movies.

3. Your fault once again, if you choosed to play a video game over your dying father, I hope you checked into a rehab center, if your claiming the addiction on the game kept you from doing that.

4. Another fault of yours. Seeing a pattern here?

5. Don't see how WoW affected this, unless your lying.

6. Got any proof of this, or just making something up?

7. Sure you lost more buying fast food, or would have lost more seeing the movies you didn't see.

8. Really hope you went to rehab if you played that much, as much as I see that as bull****, if it is true hope you really did.

Gained:

1) Lost 60 pounds over 2 years.

You played 12 hours a day, 7 days a week for two years and and you lost 60 pounds? Sat in a chair, in front of a computer for 12 hours a day and lost weight. Wow.

He's not had a job in ages and when he does have a job, he just bunks to play WoW.

He's 22 years old and he's never even been kissed (or smiled at) by a woman.

He looks like he's about 5 stone.

When he does come out, if any violence or arguments ensue, good old england, he gets a nose bleed instantly.

He'd much rather RAID then come out with friends.

He didnt know who Obama was.

His house got broken into while his parents were on holiday he didnt realise for three days, Police laughed at him, LMAO.

When I started dating a girl he had a "Crush" on (who the hell has crushes at 22?) he pushed his Monitor on the floor and wouldn't talk to me anymore.

He has no social skills, when he does come out he sits there quiet and then occasionally says stuff like, My Mage can do that!

He's the rudest person I've ever met, I was telling him about an iPhone application i'm developing, all had to say about it was "I dont care".

If World War Three kicks off any time soon and conscripting comes back he'd try and take a sick note in from his mum.

I smell lotta of bull****, ****ty friends and ****ty parents if this does prove to be true.

To the OP, if your like Vege friend or like Joesph and have no self-control, or respect for yourself or anyone else, don't play the game. If your weak and easily get caught up/addicted in things don't play the game. In fact if your like Joesph or Vege and can become so consumed by a game, then don't do anything, because work will consume you just as easily, sex will also, hell even eating could do it. Don't play the game.

If you feel like you can control yourself, play in moderation or refrain from playing 12 hours a day then please go ahead. Take your time, enjoy all the content and quests while you level to 80, and once you get there, if you haven't already find a guild and start doing dungeons/raid/PvP and enjoy even more of the game.

Take everything in this thread (even mine as I am an wow player) with a grain of salt, and if you really want to experience the game try the trial and see what happens.

What?

Yes, lost weight. Thats what happens when you mildly starve yourself, when you'd rather play then eat.

Every endgame guild I was in mostly composed of 14-16 year olds with short fuses, and negative attitudes.

Don't comment about my father.

If you honestly want proof of my response, PM me and i'll arrange a meeting.

If you lost weight, because you wanted to play a game, did you go to rehab? You'd rather starve so you could play a game? In all seriousness you need help and I hope you are seeking it.

You made the choice of joining endgame guild's which contained 14-16 year olds, which is funny as most endgame guilds require a minimum age limit.

If you don't want me to comment on your father, don't use him as an excuse to why it's bad.

What? Going to fly all the way out to South Carolina to prove me, that your story is real? Why don't you take that money and invest in rehab if a game could so screw your life up so easily.

Sounds like a bunch of people who don't know how to do anything in moderation. I play LOTRO and WoW and often take long breaks between games. Gaing XP back and "catching up" is usually easy and I don't mind because I play for fun. Saying you missed time with a dying relative is kind of bull because there is no garuntee you would have spent any more time with them if you weren't playing WoW. If a game causes you to turn away from friends they likely weren't that great of friends to start with.

Get some self control and don't blame a game because you exhibited some poor behavior for a couple years. MMOs are designed to keep you paying, not to get you addicted. If you can get addicted to a game that badly you better stay away from any kind of alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, sex, shopping, religion...

(Y) Someone here with brains.

WoW isn't even that good. At all.

It looks ancient and has all the complexity of See 'n Say.

The kiddie community that holds the game in its grimy little grasp doesn't help either.

lol this coming from a person with a Mobile Me signature!! :woot:

must be pretty good considering 11 million people are playing it..

1) Money

2) Probably just the servers I picked, luck of the draw - But most "endgame" guilds didn't have an age limit on Turalyon, they did on Dark Iron though when I was on my Warlock, that was a little better.

3) Don't comment about my father.

4) I'm in Florida, you're in SC, the drive isn't that bad there. Money wouldn't be an issue to just drive to South Carolina, it would take a lot more then $100 of gas to get in an actual rehab clinic. It screwed my life up so easily because I allowed it to, such as anything else addictive, it is choice - And it was a bad one.

I don't know what else to tell you, if you don't want me to show you, then I can't really prove anything to you.

Another vote for you to get help. I'm sorry...and you brought this up yourself...but if you chose playing a video game over spending time with your dying father, you have much much deeper issues that you need to be addressing.

Thank you, you said what I wanted you to say. You view WoW as a bad game, because YOU let yourself loose control and focus completly on the game and nothing else matter. All of which you listed as to why WoW was a bad game was your doing and not WoW's. Don't bash a game for your screw up's that were caused by you or the lack of you.

    • Why it's almost impossible to produce a smartphone in the United States by Hamid Ganji If you look at the back of some Apple products, you can see the famous phrase “Designed by Apple in California, Assembled in China.” This phrase appears on products from one of the largest smartphone brands in the United States. These products are designed in the U.S., but their manufacturing takes place in China, India, Vietnam, or even Brazil. But why can’t Apple, as one of the largest American tech companies, produce its iPhones on U.S. soil? The idea for this topic came to me after the Trump Foundation launched a smartphone called the T1 and claimed that it was designed and built with American values in mind. However, this claim did not last long, as it was revealed that Trump’s phone was actually a rebranded HTC U24 Pro, with only a gold case and minor internal component changes. You see? Even a phone that is supposed to represent American values is manufactured in China. With a gross domestic product (GDP) exceeding $32 trillion, the United States is currently the world’s largest economy, while China ranks second with around $20 trillion. On the other hand, the United States is by a wide margin the global leader in various technological fields, and American companies spend hundreds of billions of dollars annually on research and development. From Apple and Google to Microsoft, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, and others, American tech and industrial giants lead their foreign competitors in many sectors. The United States also has no shortage of smartphone brands. Apple, Google, and Motorola are among the major brands in the smartphone market, collectively holding a significant share. However, the vast majority of their products are manufactured outside the United States. So why is it that the world’s largest economy, home to the most advanced technology companies and industrial powers, cannot produce a smartphone on its own soil? Let’s explore this question together. Even threats to impose tariffs won’t work After Trump entered the White House as the 47th President of the United States, his administration adopted strict tariff policies. One of these policies was the imposition of a 25% tariff on smartphones manufactured outside the United States. Trump said he “had a little problem” with Apple CEO Tim Cook over producing smartphones outside the U.S. So he thought that threatening a 25% tax on imported phones might force Apple to bring manufacturing back to the United States. “I have long ago informed Tim Cook of Apple that I expect their iPhones that will be sold in the United States of America will be manufactured and built in the United States, not India, or anyplace else,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. Image via The White House Although Apple currently manufactures some of the iPhone’s chips in the United States with TSMC's help, it still shows no willingness to shift full iPhone production to the country. At the time, renowned Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo wrote on X, “In terms of profitability, it’s way better for Apple to take the hit of a 25% tariff on iPhones sold in the US market than to move iPhone assembly lines back to the US.” However, manufacturing a smartphone in the United States is not as easy as it might seem, and many technical and economic barriers are involved. The lack of necessary manufacturing hubs There is a clear reason why many companies prefer to manufacture their products in China. China has established itself as the main global manufacturing hub for international companies, and over the past few decades, large contract manufacturers have emerged there, allowing companies like Apple to outsource production. One such example is Foxconn, which also manufactures some Apple products in India. Building the infrastructure required to produce smartphones in the United States would require tens of billions of dollars in new investment. Factories would need to be built, essential manufacturing equipment would have to be installed, and, most importantly, a skilled workforce capable of operating these systems would need to be recruited and trained. The United States currently lacks the core infrastructure needed to manufacture smartphones, and for this reason, many companies prefer to outsource production to Chinese contractors rather than spend tens of billions of dollars to build that infrastructure, which is significantly more economically efficient. Additionally, building such infrastructure in the United States could take up to a decade, ultimately leading to a significant increase in the product's final price for consumers. Shortage of trained labor in the U.S. compared to China Decades of serving as a global manufacturing hub have allowed China to build a massive talent pool in the production sector that is almost unmatched worldwide. Today, if a company chooses to manufacture its products in China, it can be confident that the workers involved in production have years of experience in their respective roles and are capable of producing high-quality goods with minimal errors. Even if we assume that tens of billions of dollars were invested in building smartphone manufacturing infrastructure in the United States, finding skilled workers would remain highly challenging. Apple CEO Tim Cook visiting the iPhone 6 assembly line in China in 2014. Image: Tim Cook on X In a 2015 interview on CBS’s 60 Minutes, Tim Cook said the main reason Apple isn’t producing in the US is a lack of skills. "China put an enormous focus on manufacturing, in what you and I would call vocational kind of skills. The US over time began to stop having as many vocational kinds of skills. I mean you could take every tool and die maker in the United States and probably put them in the room that we're currently sitting in. In China you would have to have multiple football fields,” Cook said. Also, in 2017, at the Fortune Global Forum in Guangzhou, Cook once again emphasized the importance of highly skilled Chinese workers. “China has moved into very advanced manufacturing, so you find in China the intersection of craftsman kind of skill, and sophisticated robotics and the computer science world. That intersection, which is very rare to find anywhere, that kind of skill, is very important to our business because of the precision and quality level that we like. The thing that most people focus on if they’re a foreigner coming to China is the size of the market, and obviously, it’s the biggest market in the world in so many areas. But for us, the number one attraction is the quality of the people,” Apple CEO said. Higher labor costs in the United States Producing almost any product in the United States is more expensive than in many other countries, and one of the main reasons is the higher cost of labor in the U.S. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, median weekly earnings of full-time workers in the United States were $1,235 in the first quarter of 2026. Meanwhile, the average annual salary in China's private sector in 2025 was RMB 71,590 (US$9,961). In many parts of the world, the weekly wage of an American worker is equivalent to several months of income. Another important factor to consider is that in the United States, the workforce capable of working on a smartphone assembly line is highly specialized and therefore commands higher-than-average wages. According to an estimate by Bank of America, producing an iPhone in the U.S. is technically possible, but “iPhone cost can increase 25% purely on higher labor cost in the U.S.” However, this 25% increase applies only if final assembly is performed in the United States while components are still sourced from China or elsewhere. In this case, the price of a base iPhone would rise from $799 to around $1,000. But in another scenario, if Apple were to produce the required components for the iPhone within the United States, production costs could increase by more than 90%. Trump’s dream for a “Made in the USA” iPhone might never come true In a free-market capitalist economy, one of the primary responsibilities of any CEO is to maximize profit. Using Apple as an example, Tim Cook’s role is to maximize the company’s profits so that it can fund research and development for new products and invest in areas such as artificial intelligence, while also keeping shareholders satisfied. Therefore, it is entirely understandable that Apple would choose not to bring its manufacturing back to the United States and instead keep production in countries where labor is cheaper, and products can be manufactured at a lower cost, thereby maximizing its profit margins. What is your opinion about manufacturing smartphones in the United States? If you are an American citizen, would you be willing to pay hundreds of dollars more for a smartphone made domestically in the USA? Let us know in the comments.
    • Cheers everyone for the replies. It's been very useful. 👍
    • Compared to the 7735HS it is around 25-30% slower in multi-threaded tasks (according to Google search) I did a review of the 7735HS Beelink SER6 Max in 2023, but thinking about it, it's not comparable to the 7730U. For the example you gave about how it will be used, the 7730U is actually an excellent choice for its power and battery efficiency.
