Oscars 2009 (For Your Consideration)

why the hate on wall-e? i love the fact that the two main characters were able to interact by only saying eachothers name, it was genious.

I dont hate it. I liked it a lot. But to me is not the best movie, not by a million years. For me genious is what underrated artists like Kauffman, Jim Jarmusch, Gondry, Aronofsky, Jonze, Sofia Coppola, Allen or Spike Lee have been doing all these years outside the mainstream Hollywood.

Both are great and smart, typical Vant Sant's and Kauffman. However I will reserve my opinions until I see The Wrestler, many people have told me its Aronofsky's best to date, and thats a lot to say.

Even though I may not find all of Aronofsky' works to be great I will say that his films are always interesting. I will be looking forward to The Wrestler. Anyway . . . . no love for Revolutionary Road and Benjamin Button?

I used to think Wall-E was just another over-hyped movie but it turned out to be masterpiece when i saw it.

Wall E deserves oscar for Best Picture.

I am gonna get this movie in bluray soon. :p

Hugh Jackman to Host the Oscars

The Academy of Motion Arts and Sciences have announced that Hugh Jackman will host the 81st annual Oscars.

As you may have noticed, the ceremony that is usually hosted by comedians, a tradition that has been going on since the early years of the award show. The last time a non comedian hosted the show was in 1985 with Jack Lemmon, which was preceded by a half decade run by Johnny Carson.

If someone like Tom Hanks or Jack Nicholson, back in the day, were to host the Academy Awards, that would make better sense. Jackman might have the charisma to hold his own on stage, and while I don?t completely disagree with the concept of a non comedian host, Jackman just doesn?t seem like the right choice at all.

It would be nice to see Kate Winslet finally pick up something at the Oscars - she's got two good chances with The Reader and Revolutionary Road.

Best theme song? Certainly not Another Way to Die! Bloody Right Said Fred and the Crazy Frog could have done better! :D

The Wrestler for Best Picture and Actor, unbeliveable movie. And I'm not saying that as a wrestling fan either :D

Will Smith for Best Actor for Seven Pounds? WTF?

Hmmm, touch choice between Wall-E and Kung Fu Panda for Best Animated Film (and if Wall-E gets a nod for Best Picture).

I know everyone is gonna slag me off for this, but I just don't see Heath Ledger for Best Supporting Actor. I mean, yes his performance was very good, but there were plenty of other movies this year with stellar supporting actors.

"Down to Earth" from Wall•E will win Best Original Song; I guarantee it! :)

I think you should wait to see if it is even nominated first. It is up against 11 songs from High School Musical and 3 songs from Repo! The Genetic Opera. Wall-E only has the one song up for consideration, so it won't be easy for it to even get nominated, let alone win.

Not saying it can't, but I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't.

Here's a list of all of the Original Songs up for a possible nomination:

"High School Musical" tunes among Oscar hopefuls

Forty-nine tunes have been deemed eligible to compete in the best original song category at the 81st Annual Academy Awards on February 22.

"High School Musical 3: Senior Year" led the potential hit list by qualifying 11 tunes. Its nearest competitor is "Repo! The Genetic Opera," which is represented by three songs. A maximum of two songs can be nominated from any one film.

On January 6, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will screen clips featuring each song, in random order, for voting members of the music branch in Los Angeles. Members then will vote to determine which three to five should become nominees in the category.

The eligible songs are:

"Another Way to Die" from "Quantum of Solace"

"Barking at the Moon" from "Bolt"

"The Boys Are Back" from "High School Musical 3: Senior Year"

"Broken and Bent" from "Role Models"

"By the Boab Tree" from "Australia"

"The Call" from "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian"

"Can I Have This Dance" from "High School Musical 3: Senior Year"

"Chase the Morning" from "Repo! The Genetic Opera"

"Chromaggia" from "Repo! The Genetic Opera"

"The Code of Life" from "My Dream"

"Code of Silence" from "Save Me"

"Count on Me" from "The Women"

"Di Notte" from "The Lodger"

"Djoyigbe" from "Pray the Devil Back to Hell"

"Down to Earth" from "WALL-E"

"Dracula's Lament" from "Forgetting Sarah Marshall"

"Drive" from "Fuel"

"Forever" from "They Killed Sister Dorothy"

"High School Musical" from "High School Musical 3: Senior Year"

"Gran Torino" from "Gran Torino"

"I Thought I Lost You" from "Bolt"

"I Want It All" from "High School Musical 3: Senior Year"

"In Rodanthe" from "Nights in Rodanthe"

"It Ain't Right" from "Dark Streets"

"Jai Ho" from "Slumdog Millionaire"

"Just Getting Started" from "High School Musical 3: Senior Year"

"Just Wanna Be with You" from "High School Musical 3: Senior Year"

"Little Person" from "Synecdoche, New York"

"The Little Things" from "Wanted"

"A Night to Remember" from "High School Musical 3: Senior Year"

"Nothing but the Truth" from "Nothing but the Truth"

"Now or Never" from "High School Musical 3: Senior Year"

"O Saya" from "Slumdog Millionaire"

"Once in a Lifetime" from "Cadillac Records"

"Right Here Right Now" from "High School Musical 3: Senior Year"

"Right to Dream" from "Tennesee"

"Rock Me Sexy Jesus" from "Hamlet 2"

"Scream" from "High School Musical 3: Senior Year"

"The Story" from "My Blueberry Nights"

"Sweet Ballad" from "Yes Man"

"Too Much Juice" from "Dark Streets"

"The Traveling Song" from "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa"

"Trouble the Water" from "Trouble the Water"

"Up to Our Nex" from "Rachel Getting Married"

"Walk Away" from "High School Musical 3: Senior Year"

"Waterline" from "Pride and Glory"

"The Wrestler" from "The Wrestler"

"Yes Man" from "Yes Man"

"Zydrate Anatomy" from "Repo! The Genetic Opera"

Wall-E is a small fish in a very large see of competition.

[edit] If my gut feeling is right, we'll see one song from High School Musical, one from Repo!, Another Way to Die, Wall-E get the noms. But the winner is a tossup IMO. I'd like to see Repo! win, but considering the content and how far out there it is, I doubt they'd give it to Terrance, and the two Darren's :(

I liked TDK but for best picture I'd vote Wall-E, what a beautiful piece of storytelling that movie was. Almost reminded me of classic Disney.

Completely agreed...

But I really don't care that much. I've seen a lot of good movies this year, and god knows Oscars ain't worth that much.

It won't after it didn't win the Golden Globe.

Just because it didn't win a GG doesn't mean it won't win an Oscar different judges and all.

It's a pre cursor yes but could always mean just a difference of an opinion.

Myself I don't think Wrestler theme will win best song at Oscars.

Benjamin Button leads Oscar field

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button has emerged as the frontrunner for this year's Oscars with 13 nominations.

Slumdog Millionaire, from Britain's Danny Boyle, was close behind with 10 nominations, including best film.

Dark Knight and Milk received eight nominations, with the late Heath Ledger receiving a best supporting actor nod.

Meryl Streep scored a 15th Oscar nomination for her role in the film Doubt, alongside Kate Winslet for best actress in Stephen Daldry's The Reader.

Benjamin Button and Slumdog Millionaire were joined by Milk, The Reader and Frost/Nixon as contenders for the coveted best picture prize.

Vying with Streep and Winslet for the best actress prize were Anne Hathaway, for Rachel Getting Married, Melissa Leo for Frozen River and Angelina Jolie forThe Changeling.

Jolie was joined on the nominations list by real-life partner Brad Pitt, who led the best actor nominations for his role as Benjamin Button - a man who ages in reverse.

Slumdog Millionaire

Pitt goes head to head with Frank Langella, for his role as disgraced US president Richard Nixon in Frost/Nixon, Sean Penn, as gay rights activist Harvey Milk in Milk, Richard Jenkins for The Visitor and recent Golden Globe winner Mickey Rourke for The Wrestler.

Slumdog Millionaire's Danny Boyle received his first nomination for best director, alongside Britain's Stephen Daldry, for The Reader.

Fellow first-time nominee, director David Fincher joined the pair for his work on Benjamin Button.

Frost/Nixon's Ron Howard and Milk's Gus Van Sant completed the best director nominees.

There were few surprises in the nominations, announced by former Oscar winner Forest Whitaker, in Hollywood at 0530 local time.

MOST NOMINATED FILMS

Slumdog Millionaire (pictured) - 10

The Dark Knight - 8

Milk - 8

Wall-E - 6

Doubt - 5

Frost/Nixon - 5

The Reader - 5

Changeling - 3

Revolutionary Road - 3

However, it was widely anticipated that Winslet would feature in both the best supporting and best actress categories, following her double win at the Golden Globes.

Her omission in the best supporting category created space for The Wrestler's Marisa Tomei and Benajmin Button's Taraji P Henson, best known for her role in Hustle and Flow.

They were joined by Doubt stars Amy Adams and Viola Davis, and previous best actress nominee Penelope Cruz, for Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

Actor Michael Shannon made an unexpected appearance among the best supporting actor nominees - the only actor to be nominated from the cast of Revolutionary Road, despite award hopes for both Leonardo DiCaprio and Kathy Bates.

Milk's Josh Brolin, Doubt's Philip Seymour Hoffman, Robert Downey Jr for Tropic Thunder and Heath Ledger completed the category, with Ledger widely tipped to win.

The awards will be announced on 22 February at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.

Entire list of nominees

They say Dark Knight got 8, but NONE of it besides Heath Ledger was a big nomination.

I am just SICK of these academy people have NO respect for a Sci-fi/action movie, no matter how good it is!!!

I am Boycotting it, I WON'T be watching! :|

The Academy awards have been a joke for years.

The Academy awards have been a joke for years.

I don't know what their deal really is. People on the commitee or whatever too Old or what?

More Old people probably don't like All that action on Dark Knight.

I think they need some more young people in that commitee.

I also believe the only reason Heath Ledger got nominated more of Sympathy vote, NOT a geniune "He-would-be-still-nominated if he's still alive" nomination.

    • You are clueless. The updates are done in the background so the next time you open Edge the updates are applied automatically. There is no need to close all your tabs. Just keep browsing like you normally do. Clearly you don't use Edge and are just one of those haters that complain for the sake of complaining.
    • I don't get this David. Can you explain it please.
    • Microsoft is busy. Lots of changes to be released imminently for Windows server or soon. Also, lots happening for next version as well. Third party virus scanning software is being moved out of Kernel mode to avoid repeat of Crowdstrike incident. Windows Protected Mode and Windows Ready Print no longer require third party print drivers to be installed. New storage stack being developed. New NVME drivers now available for Windows Server 2025 to improve local NVME drive performance by 60+ percent. NVME-Of of fabric being worked on for next release to improve network access to NVME drives. ReFs (next file system) now has ability to boot and will become default file system in next release of Windows Server. ReFs improves on NTFS in several areas including resiliency and reliability and scalability. New update stack is being worked on to unify Windows updates, and updates for drivers and first party/3rd party application software. A stricter and more robust third-party driver certification program (ODI) is being worked on to improve performance, thermals, battery life, and reliability on modern Windows hardware by tightening how OEMs and IHVs (Intel, AMD, Qualcomm, NVIDIA, etc.) build and ship drivers. There is a tone more but too numerous to mention.
    • Now disable that stupid OneDrive backup request when Windows starts please. So unbelievably frustrating to only have “remind me later” instead of “no and never ask me again”
