[Official] Anime/Manga Thread

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

- Right now i'm looking for either a short-anime (max: 20-40 episodes) or a good, refreshing anime that just started (max: ~10 episodes so far). Any suggestions are welcome :) Most importantly, I prefer Shonen.

Thks !

If you don't mind "some" blood and nudity then Shigurui (12 eps) and Kurozuka (12 eps). The artwork in both anime are amazing. The stories are good and refreshing, but both openings are quite confusing until you watch the last episodes.

If the two above are too violent for you, then you might want to check out Samurai Champloo (26 eps) or Sumurai 7 (26 eps).

So far I haven't like any of the anime series coming out this year. I'm waiting for Blade of the Immortal (season 2) to see if it's worth following. They butchered season 1 with bad story telling and replaying the same music at almost every fight scenes (it felt like they tried to make the story telling feels like that of BOTI manga and failed).

Waiting for that as well, the anime just ended abruptly :/

Radish?

I hated Terra E because the main guy was so emotional and way too feminine for my liking. If you like Gundam 00, Code Geass or any other anime series emo male characters, then it's your cup of tea... Especially if you love Gundam Seed (looks at your sig and tries to forget the horrifying painful experience of trying to watch the first ten episodes).

^What's so wrong about those series?

Just to be sure, Gundam series are about teenagers who are forced to fight a war. So the emotions come hand in hand with that, which IMO makes it a great story.

Will you stop putting code Geass in the same category as Gundam when it's on the same level as GaoGaiGar...

I guess it's a personal thing. I cannot stand teenage drama. I wanted to punch Kira in the face because he lacks intelligence and maturity. It's like the producer was trying too hard to be unique so he took Neon Genesis Evangelion's Shinji and put him in the Gundam series. I love many series from the Gundam universe like Mobile Fighter G, 08th MS Team but Seed took it to an extreme. I even gave the series a second chance and tried my best to watch it but hated it.

Why can't I? After watching more than 200+ anime series and reading 150+ manga series, Code Geass felt like Death Note's Light was the protagonist with plenty of internal disputes among friends who somehow manage to fit into all the most powerful positions during the conflict then play out lame drama.

I group TTGL, Geass and Gundam SEED in the same category since they really play out teenage drama and lame cliched twists.

Ah, I understand. It's something that you have to like. I know that you're not the only one who thinks like that about Gundam SEED and Destiny. The emotional side of the series is indeed a bit more "exploited" compared to other Gundam series. Though it was less in Gundam 00 imo. The characters in Gundam 00 where a bit more mature, almost like the ones in Gundam Wing.

08th MS Team was to short if you ask me, it felt as if it ended to quickly. Besides that it was a great anime, that's for sure. They intentionally made all the mobile suits and tanks etc look a bit more "real". Kinda hard for me to explain but I bet you understand what I'm saying :p

Gundam 00 didn't grind my gears that much. I enjoyed it because it was silly/fun to watch. I gave it a 7/10 on MAL. 08th MS Team definitely was too short but it was a great watch overall. It had a great story (very important to me) and was also unique in the military/sci-fi/romance genre of anime.

I don't mind watching teenagers do amazing things (Eureka Seven). I just don't like it at all when the show seems to turn into some shoujo, emotional garbage. There is only so much metrosexuality I can take. :p What happened to guys acting like real guys rather that emotional, oversensitive crybabies while creating the most devious plans or destroy the toughest of all enemies?

Only 200???...

Only 200???...

I have my standards... I don't want to watch mind numbing anime series like Tokimeki Memorial Only Love and such. I prefer to just stick to the great ones like GTO, Gundam 08th MS Team, Cowboy Bebop, Akira, RahXephon, Kare Kano, etc...

200 is enough to know all the cliches. I don't want to turn into a NEET or an otaku, who fuss over details of even the most trivial anime series.

I dunno... TTGL didn't really have much in the way of crying guys. The main character whined at first, but he was a little kid...

I'm assuming that other reasons played a bigger part in your dislike. Maybe the simplistic plot?

Maybe I'm too picky... Maybe I'm losing faith in all the new anime that come out. I want a great story line that gives me a feeling that I can keep. TTGL's protagonist seemed very immature compared to Renton from Eureka Seven.

There's only so much "I'm going to bring down this humongous, unbeatable bad guy" and "Row Row, fight the powah!" I can take. The second half of TTGL was almost a textbook classic copy pasta of Infinite Ryvius (must watch). There was almost no storyline to speak of either. It was just the "go get the unbeatable enemy and kick him to the next dimension" story line and shallow characters that ruined the anime.

Well, that's what you get for only watching a few episodes :p Kira grows more mature with each episode, though he's still unsure about things in the first half of the 1st season. I agree that Gundam SEED had more emphasis on the emotional side then Eureka Seven and NGE, I wasn't bothered by it though.

I kinda understand your point of view but you also have to remember that in Gundam SEED they're teenagers who never fought a war. All of the sudden they're thrown into one and they need to fight all these people. Teenagers can't act like real guys in a situation like that me thinks :p

Oh well, you either like it or don't like it.

I can say the same thing about many anime series about teenagers who have no experience in the dark part of reality but manage to be resilient and become a fantastic anime series such as RahXephon, Eureka Seven, Zegapain, Gunparade March and Heroic Age. I guess seeing personalities like Kira (SEED), the main guy from Fate Stay Night and others really make me dislike the anime.

All in all, it's not my cup of tea.

    • Microsoft AI boss no longer believes that AI will replace human workers by David Uzondu Mustafa Suleyman, the head of Microsoft AI, recently took back his statements concerning white-collar jobs that he gave to the Financial Times in an interview made back in February, where he claimed that AI would replace office workers within 12 to 18 months. On Monday's episode of The Verge's Decoder, Suleyman recast the technology as more like a helpmate than a tool designed to take over your job. He explained that smaller office duties will "increasingly become digitized, automated" as people generate more digital materials. During the discussion, Suleyman emphasized a "very important distinction" between "tasks" and "jobs" to clarify his previous claims. He argued that his earlier comments only referred to individual actions that people perform at their desks. Suleyman used to work for DeepMind, the research lab he co-founded in 2010 alongside Demis Hassabis and Shane Legg, before he left in 2022 to establish Inflection AI and build an empathetic digital assistant. Microsoft hired him in March 2024 to lead its newly formed "Microsoft AI" division, placing him in charge of consumer products like Copilot, Bing, and Edge. His February comments also detailed plans for Microsoft to achieve self-sufficiency with a $140 billion infrastructure budget to train frontier models, predicting that creating a customized AI will soon feel like creating a podcast or a new blog: The 41-year-old is not the only AI executive who's softened his "AI will replace you" stance. OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, last month used X to push back against employment panic by arguing that his startup builds tools to assist humans rather than build replacements. He had previously garnered backlash by suggesting that many modern office roles that AI might replace did not qualify as "real work" in the first place, at least when you compare desk jobs to physical, historical labor like farming.

    • Meta will now use data from outside businesses to personalize AI responses by David Uzondu In an update that's rolling out globally (except in a handful of countries), Meta will use your data from outside businesses to personalize your AI responses and your primary feeds. Meta already utilizes your shopping activity to target ads, but the company now plans to expand this tracking to personalize other "parts of your experience" like feed algorithms and AI assistant chats. The company is replacing the two settings ("Your activity off Meta technologies" and "Activity from other businesses") that currently let you disconnect off-platform activity with a single, renamed setting called Activity from other businesses. If you don't want Meta to manipulate your feed and AI responses using your outside history, you can just turn the Activity from other businesses setting off in your account settings. This toggle resides within your Accounts Center, applying your choice to every connected profile. Turning this off will not stop companies from sending your data to Meta. The company will still collect your web interactions, but it only uses them to train products, while still accessing external accounts you connect. When The Verge spoke to Meta spokesperson Emil Vazquez, the representative said that this update will exclude several locations at launch, including the European region, the UK, Brazil, Thailand, South Africa, Turkey, South Korea, Ecuador, Nigeria, and Kenya. The new update comes at a time when the social media giant is recovering from a major PR disaster involving generative AI. Last week, there was a huge security issue on Instagram where attackers figured out a way to trick Meta AI into handing over account ownership (even if the victim had 2FA enabled). Some of the affected accounts include the dormant Obama White House profile, cosmetics brand Sephora, the Chief Master Sergeant of the Space Force, and security researcher Jane Manchun Wong. Internally, the company also had to scale back plans on its Model Capability Initiative (MCI), an employee-monitoring program designed to train corporate AI models by recording worker keystrokes and screen activity, after employees raised privacy concerns and complained about severe battery life drain.
