Had a glimpse at Winter Sonata and it's in Korean (true to the original drama) which is awesome, I'll watch it late(Y)Y)

Radish?

Thanks for mentioning that. I've been looking forward to that anime so I'll be watching that tomor:)w :)

How can someone put CLANNAD in the same league as Ichigo 100% and Love Hina!? :blink: :|

Love Hina got some influence from Maison Ikkoku (the loser guy in a building who gets the girl in the end).

And Ichigo 100%...well...no comments. :p

I just find drama highly irritating. They're all harem's that have a very average guy feature as the protagonist. You're right about me being wrong for grouping Love Hina and Clannad together but I find that they're just two variations of the harem genre. I would also like to add Kimi ga Nozomu Eien into the mix. All of these anime are probably the most irritating, overly dramatic, emotionally exaggerated anime series that could be compared to daytime soap operas.

/rant

I hope I'm not offending anyone. I'm just criticizing a sub genre, not the people who watch it.

Hehe, time for you to stay away from that genre :p

Kimi ga Nozomu Eien was one hell of an emotional drama (I remember sanctified recommending it to me way back in the day :D) which it pulled of very well and I'd put it together with Clannad (Y)

Hehe, I thought KGNE was about an emo, indecisive, stupid (literally... his job was a waiter) man who had the guts to break a sick girl's heart while a soppy, possessive, manipulative girl fed on his "sorrows" so she could receive attention like the $@#$@ she is. RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE

Anyways, I just finished watching Brave Story. It's a good children's fantasy/adventure anime that made me realize how I'm too old to relate to innocent, happy go lucky kids save the world. (>_< I want my pure innocent self back!) It's great for children and is beautifully depicted. It can be compared to Eureka Seven regarding aesthetics and the "young boy wanderer" main character. However it does feel rushed. (I found out that the movie's based on a 20 volume manga which explains it all.)

Brave New Story: 7.5/10

On the other hand, I tried watching Armored Troops Votoms but dropped it ten episodes in due to the absolute lack of suspension of disbelief (tens of people being killed off in a cartoonish manner with ridiculous, cheesy, over the top cartoon violence. Legend of the Galactic Heroes, which was made a few years after in 1988, holds up to today's animation in most ways and has an absolutely epic plot). Votoms spans across 52 episodes with a few arcs but I don't think its worth the effort unless you're an otaku or a classic anime fan.

@maskedforever: Neat, I'm going to watch Brave Story today. Been waiting for it for quite some time now. I see you mentioned that it's based on a 20 volume manga. Did you know that the movie Akira is only based on a few highlights from the manga? Highlights from book 1 that is. Akira has a much bigger role in the actual manga. He even has contact with all the other characters. If you haven't read the manga yet, then I'll highly recommend it to you :)

Thanks for the recommendation. I found out that I already have the manga but never got around to reading it. Akira is a masterpiece and just imagining the possibility of a more detailed plot makes me look forward to reading the manga. Brave Story was pretty good. It is similar to Eureka Seven with a hint of Pokemon. You'll definitely see it when you watch it. Unfortunately, the manga isn't translated. The last update was around 3 years ago and stopped at around volume 2. There's also a 70 chapter novel.

Gonna watch Brave Story tomorrow. If it's similar to Eureka Seven then I'll probably like it. I'm gonna keep my head up to see if I see the hint of Pokemon :p If I like the movie then I'll might look into that novel. At least, if it's interesting enough.

Akira is indeed a masterpiece and that shouldn't be dismissed, even if it only has some highlights from the 1st book. I think it's kind off a good idea they made the movie that way. It makes it even more interesting and it'll make people curious to know what happens in the manga.

I just watched Porco Rosso. It really made me remember how much I miss classic storytelling. A simple plot yet such rich background and characters in just a short time... Studio Ghibli is absolutely amazing. This movie is a masterpiece. I though that this movie would just be some silly cookie cutter adventure anime but how wrong I was... It's a treat to watch...

@Capric0rn

The story continues in the manga?!

Yeah lol, that's what I meant with highlights from the first book :p There's so much more going on with the actual story in the manga. There are even more important characters etc. in the manga.

All of Ghibli's films are masterpieces, for me the only exception would be Tales from Earthsea. It's was the directorial debut of by Hayao Miyazaki's son, Goro and he couldn't direct well to say the least. It felt cobbled together with too much violence and not enough classic Ghibli story telling.

And I've added you on Twitter :)

Radish?

I just realized that the voice actor for one of the main characters in Porco Rosso (Curtis) is also the same voice actor for Batou (Ghost in the Shell), Kuro Hazama (Black Jack), a commander in Full Metal Panic!, a character in One Piece, Naruto, Trigun and the male character in the fight scene of Animatrix.

...Mind blown!

@Radish

Thanks. You're right about Tales from Earthsea. It definitely had the Ghibli feel but felt a bit over the top.

Well as it happens im back..ok got my tea now let's begin

Beginning of the night the hour an a half socialising turns out im not the anti-social git i thought i was i think it may have had something to do with the Gurren Lagann shirt i had on lol.

Sci-fi London T-shirt which was thrust upon me i don't know why but it was just given to me.

the goody bag vol 1 of Heat guy J that even the guy sitting next to me had no idea what it was about, Vol 1 of Dr. Who, some super flyers, and chocolates which were shockingly nice.

Sky Crawlers.***

felt like Ace Combat steam-punk edition

Eve no Jikan/Time of Eve.****

it was fun real fun can't really say anything more.

King Of Thorn.*****

We were told we get to see it before Japan does and bloody hell it was like a Dark fairy tale with elements of Quake/Doom.

Eureka Seven: Good night, Sleep Tight, Young lovers.*****

Not sure what happened but it just happened and it was good.

Evangelion 0.1 You Are (Not) Alone*****+

as someone who loves Good Mecha and good fan service and finds Megumi Hayashibara's voice enchanting this movie/ova/remake was everything i wanted.

all in all Awesome night but sadly might be my last pilgrimage to London as the merchandise shop situation had kinda gone belly up.

Watched Brave Story tonight, a really good fantasy/magical film with beautiful animation and a nice dose of action (Y) While watching it, I kept on thinking about X'am'd: Lost Memories. Even though they are very different in plot terms.

I think it was the place/time it was set as well as the character designs (though it was animated by Gonzo and not BONES) :)

I know this is random but i gotta say that it's pretty awesome that you have Toki o Kakeru Shōjo in your sig :)

@consume: Thanks :p

@Radish™: I've watched Brave Story yesterday as well and I enjoyed it quite much. I was also thinking about some other anime which I've seen in the past but I couldn't grasp which one it was. And I did see the hints of Pokemon thought they wheren't that obvious :p It was a great anime both animation and story-wise.

    • Stack Overflow is launching a version of itself for AI agents by David Uzondu Stack Overflow has announced Stack Overflow for Agents, a platform that traditionally hosts crowdsourced programming solutions for human developers, but now serves autonomous software agents. Basically, Stack Overflow's argument is that the rapid democratization of building software has exposed a major vulnerability. Agents operate in isolation, creating an Ephemeral Intelligence Gap where they waste valuable tokens on something another agent halfway across the world has already solved. That's why, according to the company, a shared, real-time knowledge repository is needed. Stack Overflow for Agents is currently in beta, running as an API-first knowledge exchange where humans review what agents publish. To prevent hallucination issues and keep the database clean, the platform uses a multi-agent verification loop to check code quality. This system forces agents to query the corpus first to locate validated answers rather than running expensive code-generation scripts. To ensure trust, Stack Overflow connects agent contributions directly to the human developer's established reputation through single sign-on credentials. The agents can interact with three distinct post types. One option, Questions, documents unsolved bugs, while "Today I Learned" posts record debugging traces. Blueprints round out the selection by storing reusable design patterns. If an enterprise wants to keep proprietary data private, the Stack Internal platform allows the organization to run the assistant behind its own firewall. Before the massive rise of LLMs, which tanked its traffic by about 50% over the last couple of years, Stack Overflow was the go-to website for millions of programmers seeking coding solutions. Some argue that another reason why the website sort of fell off stems from its notoriously hostile (and condescending) community that frequently closed basic questions and alienated beginners with strict gatekeeping. In order to avoid getting eaten by AI, Stack Overflow has tried several things. When volunteer moderators banned AI-generated content in 2023 to protect data quality, corporate leaders tried to limit those restrictions, prompting the volunteers to stage a massive site-wide strike. Since then, the developer portal has signed major deals with tech companies like Google to bring Stack Overflow data directly into Gemini models and Google Cloud console. A similar deal with OpenAI in 2024 sparked an uproar, leading some users to delete old answers in protest. The company swiftly suspended those accounts to protect the database. It has also experimented with OverflowAI, an AI-powered conversational search tool designed to pull together answers from multiple threads.
    • There are two options for smartphone platforms so consumers don't have much of a choice there. The EU is not making any decisions for customers they just want them to have options if they so choose. I am not sure why you would be for closed platforms. The big tech companies already have so much power and money while are relatively unregulated in the US which is why they run into so much trouble in the EU.
    • Hello, I am using a Moto G Stylus (2025) and happy with it.  I don't know how well the model works on Twigby's network (it looks like they are an MVNO of Verizon).  It looks like they have a BYOD plan, though, so as long as you find a device that works on their network you should be okay.   Regards,   Aryeh Goretsky
