[Official] Anime/Manga Thread

^^ i loved Blue Gender both in dub and sub as the voices don't really distract you from the story also the fact i was a slight mishmash of Half life OP4 & Redfaction II

The dialogue quality is inconsistent. It can be great at times and almost nonexistent during others. However, I absolutely loved how mature the characters were. Marlene Angel is one of my favorite female characters. She doesn't play out the silly gender roles that you usually see in anime and the whole anime series is a pleasure to watch. However, it does suffer from lack of animation quality.

However, I do have my hopes up for the Blu Ray version, which Funimation announced a while back.

:D 3000th post of the thread!

Definitely liked Marlene's strong character compared to Yuji, sometimes I wondered if he had any balls. Yeah, traumatic experience for him an all but still.

I just LOL'ed on seeing the demo for "Real Kanojo" I can't believe this thread has come this far (Y)

Radish?

Note - Mushishi is one of the must watch series in the anime genre. It's absolutely sublime and is pure art. The haunting yet comforting soundtrack, the soft yet frightening art and fantastic main character makes it one of the best. The manga is still being translated (7/10 volumes done).

What happens during Mushishi:

:D Ah, I found Mushishi. I should rewatch it over my Thanksgiving break for old times sake.

:o Such beautiful art and depictions of nature. Ginko is awesome!

O_O Why is love so painful?!

T_T Nooooo, why does Mushishi have to be so bittersweet...

X_X In conclusion, Mushishi is amazing and gives a very bitter dose of realistic love and intestesting philosophical musings about life.

XD *watches a ridiculous, slapstick anime series to feel better* Everything went better than expected.

I'm looking through your MAL page...

I'd suggest watching REC. It's about a "romantic interest" between a man and a struggling voice actress.

If not, check out "Memories: Magnetic Rose". It's forty minutes long and is accompanied by two completely different stories that do not relate to it.

If you don't like my suggestions, check out the anime you haven't watched that's on my list. http://myanimelist.net/shared.php?u1=ytdh&...u2=arimakenshin. Do you keep your MAL page updated since it says that you did not watch Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence (which is a crime :p) or Rurouni Kenshin's first OVA (which is a masterpiece and the best rated out of all anime on almost every anime site).

no i never did get round to watching GiTS not sure why i just never did.

At least watch the two movies. Even if you don't like the themes, you have to watch the movies for the artwork or else you'll have to turn in your anime membership card at the desk. :shiftyninja:

Well i have seen the first one just not the second also just my opinion Shirow's still art > shirow's animation.

;) It's interesting to see another perspective of the franchise. To me, it's an art form that gave me something to express what I want to do as a career. All I can say is that the manga cannot hold a candle to the animation of the festival in Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence. I have never seen such intricate CGI/hand drawn images in my life come to life through animation.

On top of that, you HAVE to watch Rurouni Kenshin's first OVA.

GiTS started of a bit boring for me but the endings were great!

I thought so too. I deliberately rate the series lower than the movies but they do give character to the Section 9 screw due to the more in depth interactions between them.

The one that was out in 1999?

also when i say Shirow's still art i mean the Wild Wet West/Quest series.

Actually, do you remember when you had to fight the Rachni in the Hot Labs? If you really loved that part and want to see some very interesting, mature character development, then you NEED to check out Blue Gender. Even Thresher Maws are featured in Blue Gender (even though they go by a different name altogether). To top it all off, the humans are based on a station in the orbit of Earth that's very similar to the Citadel but is called "Second Earth". Be warned there are copious amounts of realistic violence with gruesome details but it complements the story very well. In fact, Shepherd from Mass Effect can be considered to be the same as Yuji if you chose the "only one to survive a horrendous battle" path at the start of the game.

I can't believe I never thought of it before. As I said though, it deserves its mature rating since it really does go deep into psychological problems that soldiers would theoretically would go through and plenty of violence and death of characters that you grew attached to and sexual content (that further develops the story).

I'll get Blue Gender asap. ;)

I'm not familiar with that series. Can you give me a link? Are you talking about Orion by any chance?

Here's a sample screenshot of the Blu Ray copy I have of GiTS 2: Innocence:

(I had to reduce the image quality because I don't everyone loading this thread to be forced to download a 3 MB file.)

I'll get Blue Gender asap. ;)

Please let me know how it goes.

So is the first OVA you're talking about the 4 ep one from 1999?

Yup. http://myanimelist.net/anime/44/Rurouni_Kenshin:_Tsuiokuhen

Regarding your Wild Wet West thing...

How I reacted - :) :o   :D

I never knew that he had such an interest in that. That explains his sequel to the Ghost in the Shell manga. It was basically a showcase of Motoko turning into something that came out of Baywatch and showed off her artificial curves (as "tastefully" as they were drawn). I think it's as borderline hentai as you can get. I wanted to kick Shirow for giving into his primal pleasures and just give a good, intelligent sequel. He even apologizes at the beginning of the sequel for not wanting to continue the story from the first manga series.

I just found my MAL review of it and laughed:

"After completing this manga, I am quite disappointed by one of my favorite anime franchise. This manga is just composed of scantily clothed androids posing silly philosophical questions already posed in previous manga."

More info on the sequel: http://myanimelist.net/manga.php?id=1026

right will get it also requestioning something on a Japanese BBS takes some thinking.

also most Mangaka/circles started or still do Hentai hell the cast of Hellsing started life as Dujinshi characters the same with satoshi urushihara is kinda on par with Shirow Brilliant art both SFW and NSFW and brilliant movies.

Should I watch the movie as well? Looks like it has stuff cut from the series.

I never watched the movie in fear of ruining the anime series. I read the spoilers for the ending and it seems that the movie is similar to the Rahxephon movie, which means that everything will feel like it was played in fast forward while giving more details about the characters at the expense of a horrible ending. I regret watching the movie ending to Rahxephon since it didn't feel consistent to the atmosphere the characters created.

:D Conan O'Brien does Ghost in the Shell:

(Part 2)

Conan does Blood: The Last Vampire:

Best story out the three, it really echoes "Event Horizon" (one of my favourite films) when I watched it. Katsuhiro Otomo / Satoshi Kon and Yoko Kanno is a wicked combination (Y) :D

    • Got it. Seem like a good improvement. Thanks. But, before we "Add the source to Trusted Sites," how would know if it is trusted or not? Could get messy for not first Knowing" it is clean. See what I mean?
