[Official] Anime/Manga Thread

You know what would be an amazing anime series? Post-apocalyptic anime with zombies a la 28 Days Later and Left 4 Dead. I'm thinking of Saikano meets Blue Gender and Dragon Head (manga). Personal anguish with no holds heart shredding scenario with music set to this:

.

= Running zombies

= Several scenarios of emotional trauma such as families being separated, attacked and spreading the virus/disease

= Two to four protagonists with at least one strong female lead

I'll be stunned if there is such an anime series. I am actually surprised that the Japanese do not have such an anime series considering how much tragedy, dramas and post apocalyptic, dystopian sci-fi futures. There are many manga series that cover this type of stuff (without the zombies though).

I just re-watched Ghost in the Shell (movie). It still continues to be on a completely different level than today's anime. It's both a good and a bad thing. I have yet to come across a "mature" anime that develops themes artistically using the full breadth of what anime can offer. Soundtrack, artwork and character interaction/plot are three vital components of anime that I use to distinguish the hundred's of anime and manga I have watched and read. Kawai Kenji's soundtrack is simply sublime. It takes a cultural twist that feels traditional and its clash with the futuristic atmosphere blends them together into a visual masterpiece.

Here's to hoping that a refreshing wave of new anime styles washes ashore and cleanses the overused Shounen and Seinen clich?s.

On an another note, can anyone recommend an anime that is similar to Ghost in the Shell (movie) in terms of animation. I've only come across Jin Roh: The Wolf Brigade and a few others that have that distinct realistic depiction of faces and body movements.

"The Sky Crawlers" which is also made by Mamoru Oshii. I'll have to look into my collection to name a few more. "The Sky Crawlers" was the first one which popped into my head :p

I thought the plot was just one huge, philosophical mess despite the refreshing animation. It's such a pity that people think the anime deserved awards because they thought that it was profound with its long scenes of the characters not talking and just staring at each other like goats with the occasional "Baa".

Last Exile > The Sky Crawlers.

Now back to my original planned point, anyone else watching "Asura Cryin' 2"?

:) Good to see another Last Exile fan.

Regarding Asura Cryin', this is what one of my favorite reviewers (tehnominator) on MAL said"

Someone will undoubtedly be cryin' during this anime and it will be you for watching it.

Asura Cryin' is a series that makes progressively less and less sense as it wears on. Bad story, bad characters, bad enjoyment factor. It is a fine example of negative plus negative plus negative equals... negative.

What's crazy is that she has watched more than 700 anime series... 700!!! Can't get more "otaku" than that.

"Last Exile" is a great anime though it's a completely different anime as well. The only comparison it has is that both are about flying aircrafts. "The Sky Crawlers" is just a different type of anime compared with mainstream anime. I think that Mamoru Oshii did a great job with "The Sky Crawlers". It's the type of anime which one would expect from him.

Btw, if you liked "Last Exile" a lot then you should give "Blue Submarine No. 6" a try as well. Different plots and not both are about flying aircrafts. Though both have the same character designer: Range Murata.

Watching a F-Ton of anim? doesn't make you an Otaku if 4chan's /a/ didn't teach me anything it taught me that.

I watched blue submarine, but liked it significantly less.

Well, in her case, it's definitely a case of otaku. She definitely has an obsession about anime, wouldn't you say?

OOoooo, look what I found:

I would also like to nominate "M10 Chant III" as one of the best matching songs for an anime scene:

You should listen to the GITS 2.0 version of this, very tingly with surround sound (Y)

    • A Warhammer 40K racing game and a chess roguelike are free to claim on the Epic Games Store by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The Epic Games Store has returned to its standard giveaway procedures after weeks of mystery freebies. The latest drop is replacing last week's Rogue Waters and Songs of Conquest games and has brought in a double giveaway offering Warhammer 40K Speed Freeks and The Ouroboros King. As always, the game is yours to add permanently to your Epic Games Store library within the next seven days. From the duo, Warhammer 40K Speed Freeks lands from developer Caged Element, and it's a racing game that was only released last year. The title has you piloting Ork buggies, tanks, and aircraft modeled after the popular tabletop miniatures. The focus is on multiplayer mayhem, offering multiple game modes that have you fighting other players as everyone tries to survive and get across finish lines or destroy mechs. Crossplay support between PC and consoles has now arrived as part of a free update, too, giving a boost to matchmaking times for this multiplayer-focused title. If racing carnage isn't your thing, then The Ouroboros King offers tactics. The indie title is a mashup of chess and standard roguelike experience, letting players create their own armies to defeat an enemy faction, all on the familiar checkered board. There is a procedurally generated map, pieces with special abilities, relics that bend the game's rules to make overpowered builds, and more. The newly available Warhammer 40K Speed Freeks and The Ouroboros King giveaways on the Epic Games Store are set to run until June 11, giving PC gamers seven days to claim the latest offer. Once this closes out, a new freebie will take its place on the same day. Don't forget that mobile gamers can check out the Epic Game Store's weekly giveaways on Android and iOS to grab a freebie there as well.

    • The most consequential argument in technology right now is not about which model is smartest or which chip is fastest. It is about whether the entire enterprise is a generational revolution or the largest financial bubble ever inflated — and the unsettling answer, increasingly, is that it may be both at once.,,,, https://www.techtimes.com/articles/318138/20260610/ai-revolution-ai-bubble-trillion-dollar-question-splitting-wall-street-silicon-valley.htm This is a very good read.  For what it is worth, I agree with the answer to the question. • LibreWolf 151.0.4-1 by Razvan Serea LibreWolf is an independent “fork” of Firefox, with the primary goals of privacy security and user freedom. It is the community run successor to LibreFox. LibreWolf is designed to increase protection against tracking and fingerprinting techniques, while also including a few security improvements. This is achieved through our privacy and security oriented settings and patches. LibreWolf also aims to remove all the telemetry, data collection and annoyances, as well as disabling anti-freedom features like DRM. LibreWolf features: Latest Firefox — LibreWolf is compiled directly from the latest build of Firefox Stable. You will have the the latest features, and security updates. Independent Build — LibreWolf uses a build independent of Firefox and has its own settings, profile folder and installation path. As a result, it can be installed alongside Firefox or any other browser. No phoning home — Embedded server links and other calling home functions are removed. In other words, minimal background connections by default. User settings updates Extensions firewall: limit internet access for extensions. Strip tracking elements from URLs, both natively and through uBO. Enable dFPI, also known as Total Cookie Protection. Enable RFP which is part of the Tor Uplift project. RFP is considered the best in class anti-fingerprinting solution, and its goal is to make users look the same and cover as many metrics as possible, in an effort to block fingerprinting techniques. Always display user language as en-US to websites, in order to protect the language used in the browser and in the OS. Disable WebGL, as it is a strong fingerprinting vector. Prevent access to the location services of the OS, and use Mozilla's location API instead of Google's API. Limit ICE candidates generation to a single interface when sharing video or audio during a videoconference. Force DNS and WebRTC inside the proxy, when one is being used. • Stopped using Windows as my main workflow. Migrated completed to Linux. Been happier than a clam without a single issue nor windows annoyance. Leaving Windows has shown me the light at the end of the tunnel, or rather I went through the tunnel and I'm already at the light.
