[Official] Anime/Manga Thread

Finished "Toward the Terra" the other day, so im also looking for a new anime.

I did a quick google search for "anime suggestions" to see what other animes popped up, the first site shows a category listed as "intelligent" animes, where the first two in the list i really enjoyed ; code geass, and death note.

So i was wondering which ones of the list you guys would suggest, a couple of them look pretty interesting, but i was curious which ones you guys have watched and if you liked it.

the list is:

* Death Note

* Code Geass

* Monster

* RahXephon

* Haibane Renmei

* Mushi-shi

* Darker than Black

* Serial Experiments Lain

* Paranoia Agent

* Dennou Coil

* Ghost in the Shell

* Noein

* Ghost Hunt

* Ergo Proxy

* 12 Kingdoms

* Spiral

* Fantastic Children

Ghost in the Shell <- How can you miss this!?

Ergo Proxy <- Mature, philosophical anime. It even has Paranoid Android by Radiohead as its OP song.

RahXephon <- One of top 5 favorite all time. I <3 Mishima!

Mush-shi <- One of the best anime series in the past few years

Darker than Black <- This is what you might like

Monster <- Epic conspiracy/mystery drama of a Japanese doctor in Europe

Ghost Hunt <- If you like Darker than Black and Ergo Proxy, then you'll like the more toned down Ghost Hunt

I want some new good action anime with a long lasting storyline, like Naruto, Bleach and One Piece. Fairy Tail might perhaps be my answer to that, as I read the few first episodes of the manga.

Rurouni Kenshin

Eureka Seven (epic 50 episode anime... Quality better than quantity here)

Yu Yu Hakusho (better than Naruto and Bleach put together... Once you've seen this, you've seen them all)

Legend of the Galactic Heroes (more mature, less action and more epic space battles)

D.Gray Man

Hajame no Ippo

If you've watched a lot of anime and understand parodies, then Gintama is a must watch!

How did you like 'Toward the Terra', Berserk87? Was it your type of anime? How would you rate it on a scale of 1 to 10? :laugh:

EDIT: basques, I would recommend to watch Rurouni Kenshin and D.Gray-man.

I know what you mean. Death Note and Code Geass are hard to top, or even match. From the list that you posted, I have also watched Paranoia Agent. I wouldn't really recommend it.

I would suggest that you watch Umineko no Naku Koro ni (When the Seagulls Cry). It's the anime that I'm watching at the moment, and its themes are somewhat similar to DN's. I say this after realizing that Toward the Terra wasn't probably what you were looking for. :laugh:

Ergo Proxy is one of my favourite shows.

Plus I love pretty much anything sci-fi :p

It's my favorite genre. Anything with a good dash of technology and character development, then put me up for it. Ghost in the Shell and Akira can be considered the two ultimate cyberpunk works in the genre. Nothing can come close to it unless you would like to consider Neon Genesis Evangelion (which has turned most of the Gundam series to follow Shinji's emo footsteps).

If you're keen on reading manga, then I HAVE to recommend that you read "Blame". It has the same atmosphere and dystopian future.

You mean its ED song, OP song is "kiri" by MONORAL tongue.gif

Radish?

Oops. Kiri > Paranoid Android. Ergo Proxy had amazing alternative rock songs. The soundtrack is also close to perfect to it.

You do know that Gundam started a decade before NGE, right? ;)

I'm referring to the newer Gundam series. The ones that just copy and pasta the previous stories and try to put a new "twist" to them.

This is such a good song. Eureka Seven and Gintama have probably the best collection of OP and ED songs.

@maskedforever: That's an awesome song tbh. I listen to it from time to time. Have you heard supercar's full album with that song btw? It's a really nice and relaxing album imo.

You're right about the story lines tbh. They do try to bring more and more original things in to the stories but the groundbase is indeed always the same.

@Radish?: That song is probably the best instrumental on the whole OS:D:D

While we staying ontopic with Eureka seveN. This is also a song used as an OP for the series. I personally love the song and it's lyrics:

    • A Warhammer 40K racing game and a chess roguelike are free to claim on the Epic Games Store by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The Epic Games Store has returned to its standard giveaway procedures after weeks of mystery freebies. The latest drop is replacing last week's Rogue Waters and Songs of Conquest games and has brought in a double giveaway offering Warhammer 40K Speed Freeks and The Ouroboros King. As always, the game is yours to add permanently to your Epic Games Store library within the next seven days. From the duo, Warhammer 40K Speed Freeks lands from developer Caged Element, and it's a racing game that was only released last year. The title has you piloting Ork buggies, tanks, and aircraft modeled after the popular tabletop miniatures. The focus is on multiplayer mayhem, offering multiple game modes that have you fighting other players as everyone tries to survive and get across finish lines or destroy mechs. Crossplay support between PC and consoles has now arrived as part of a free update, too, giving a boost to matchmaking times for this multiplayer-focused title. If racing carnage isn't your thing, then The Ouroboros King offers tactics. The indie title is a mashup of chess and standard roguelike experience, letting players create their own armies to defeat an enemy faction, all on the familiar checkered board. There is a procedurally generated map, pieces with special abilities, relics that bend the game's rules to make overpowered builds, and more. The newly available Warhammer 40K Speed Freeks and The Ouroboros King giveaways on the Epic Games Store are set to run until June 11, giving PC gamers seven days to claim the latest offer. Once this closes out, a new freebie will take its place on the same day. Don't forget that mobile gamers can check out the Epic Game Store's weekly giveaways on Android and iOS to grab a freebie there as well.

    • The most consequential argument in technology right now is not about which model is smartest or which chip is fastest. It is about whether the entire enterprise is a generational revolution or the largest financial bubble ever inflated — and the unsettling answer, increasingly, is that it may be both at once.,,,, https://www.techtimes.com/articles/318138/20260610/ai-revolution-ai-bubble-trillion-dollar-question-splitting-wall-street-silicon-valley.htm This is a very good read.  For what it is worth, I agree with the answer to the question. • Stopped using Windows as my main workflow. Migrated completed to Linux. Been happier than a clam without a single issue nor windows annoyance. Leaving Windows has shown me the light at the end of the tunnel, or rather I went through the tunnel and I'm already at the light.
