I just re-watched Mobile Suit Gundam: 08th MS Team. After watching it for a second time, the novelty wears off and the cheese is very easy to distinguish. From the ridiculous hair-dos to quite possibly one of the most annoying voices for a protagonist (he sighs at the end of each sentence), the anime is quite flawed and cannot be called something that shows anime's brilliance. It's a typical Gundam anime with two star crossed lovers with the typical female protagonist looking like a supermodel and prances around like a naive princess while the male showing bravery in combat only after wallowing in self pity and self hatred (basically being emo). To add more cheese, the series takes a very awkward, abrupt turn and manages to make you speechless when you watch the epilogue (a very surprising ending). Even though, the series shows that it has Gundam blood in it, it's probably one of the better Gundam series. With realistic depictions of mecha, it stands out from the standard Gundam formula of mechas with power levels that supposedly go over 9000 while other gundams watch in awe and depend on them. 08th MS team manages to make regular powered Gundams look interesting and show that realism can be better than the standard Dragonball fanfare that almost every mecha show illustrates. There are many scenes that are simply still frames as the camera pans across them which almost loses the viewers' suspense of disbelief. If you tolerate all of that, this is a gem in the rough of the Gundam universe with mecha battles taking place in every weather condition and backdrop jungle, snow, desert, plains).

Even though there is plenty of cheese and its age, the 12 episode OVA is a must watch for every mecha fan out there.

7/10

Funny pics from the mecha:

most of the issues the early gundam have is the the fact it was mostly from the early to late 80's in terms of style also to the bit i highlighted i know a TA/SupCom fanatic who would argue you in to the ground over that...

Also something makes me want to see a Ridge Racer or Ace Combat anim?.

I don't really have problems with the animation at all. In fact, I can argue that the animation of 08th MS team looks better anime that came out in the early 00's. I am simply critical of the recycled Gundam formula the producers and writers used for the characters. The typical Gundam dialogue of screaming and exaggerated emotions are present which is accompanied by some J-pop songs that are played every few episodes.

I like the anime overall. It's actually one of the more tolerable Gundam anime series I've come across. Nothing seems to be able to touch Zeta Gundam as the best series in the Gundam universe.

I was mainly talking bout the hair styles also no matter what i can never seem to get into gundam (also i curse the fact that armored core is only on consoles also why is it 1080p on the 360 but only 720p on PS3?) random thought while typing this) now should i watch Flanders no Inu now or later?

You're watching an fifty two episode tv show for kids instead of Ghost in the Shell? No comment. :p

The hairstyles of anime characters still continue to be ridiculous. Gundam SEED for example or Fafner.

i have seen the first GiTS(see entry 144 on MAL)movie just never got round to watching the second also next classic series ill be watching is Saint Seiya.

after seeing the price of the plushies of the nyan koi cats in the words of Pedro VERY NO!!!

    • All it does is use the CPU more efficiently during boot to speed up boot times. That's it. Yawn....
    • It's not a one or the other kind of thing. Software should run efficiently, and the operating system should appropriately manage the CPU clocks. You could have the best most optimized software on earth, and it will still run faster if the CPU does a better job of boosting as needed. All this is doing is pre-boosting the CPU based on user actions, instead of waiting for the normal detection mechanism to kick in. If the OS knows it is about to need more CPU, why shouldn't it use that knowledge? It's the same idea of downshifting before you try to pass someone, instead of just burying your foot into the peddle and waiting for the transmission to figure out what you want to do.

    • There really isn't anything magical about the low latency profile, other OS's do this as well. All they're doing is using your CPUs boost clock options in a more smarter way.
    • So we shouldn't have the option because of people using their laptops on battery? OK? LOL
