Hajime no Ippo has probably captured the "top rated anime with horrible OP and ED lyrics" spot. Japanese Engrish music is just bad. I should start a band that tries to incorporate Japanese words into proper English sentences and pay no heed to the incorrect tenses of the Japanese words.

Come to think of it, a lot of the elements are rather generic. Still, I wouldn't say I disliked it, but I don't know if I would highly recommend it (so maybe a 5/10 would have been better).

Its aimed more at comedy than action.

As long as you enjoy it. (Y)

This is madness! I watched NGE when I was a "kid" and I thought it was quite interesting to see characters my age go through such crazy stuff and almost treated as research subjects. There was never a moment that I felt offended and thought that the characters were being sexualized to the point that it was hentai. Even if it was hentai, like the amazing manga NGE Re-Take, this politically incorrect has to stop. To generalize anyone who watches material that might be considered "loli" as perverted people who are more likely to commit some sort of sexual assault is baseless.

^ That looks terrible. Maid/nun costume, school girl costume, male protagonist with spiky hair, magician in the background... :pinch:

To be honest, I quite enjoyed To Aru Majutsu No Index. I would put the series under the "shut-brain-off-while-watching" category.

^^ Those aren't always bad... :p

Baki the Grappler was a shut your brain off show, but sometimes the fights were intense.

If you like those types of fights, then check out Yu Yu Hakusho and Hajime no Ippo. They're few of the best of what Shounen action shows offer.

Hajime no Ippo is... HILARIOUS! I can't stop laughing. It's one thing to be one of the best manga series I've ever read and completely another to capture the atmosphere by turning a few chapters of material into an anime episode. The background soundtrack is fitting and doesn't trying to surpass the animation while the 90's animation hits the same way I imagined the manga series in motion. The voice acting, unlike the horrible movie, has the best voice acting I've seen in a while. There's no exaggerated emotional tones or silly forced sounds that are all too common in anime. It's almost perfect.

This scene could not stop me laughing for a few minutes:

Thanks for the recommendation, I just added those to my 'to watch' list :D

If you have any more, please let me know haha

An awesome surprise! Usually there are four feature films shown but now, the first episode of FMA: B will also be shown on the big screen at the anime all-nighter :woot:

yeah wasn't expecting that.

Cracking episode of FMA: B :D Mustang showing a new level of rage  Kinda felt sad for Envy as he realised how inferior he was compared to humans :( And a nice scene at the end with Father and Hohenheim setting the stage (Y)

Oh in that case you're in for a treat in the coming few weeks

Oh yayer. You haven't seen nothing in naruto that will compare and prepare you for what is about to be unleashed :)

Such a great episode. Had a friend who came over right as I started it, during the middle he was like ," What is this, its amazing. I can't understand what they say, but the feeling is there, and its so tense." The production of this anime has truly lived up to the greatness of this series.

So, im re-watching Trigun for the 100000000000000 time and something is driving me nuts... Which episode is the episode Vash explains to Meryl about Knives & him being Aliens? I can never remember...

It's near the end, when he has to start actually killing, or just before that. I need to re-watch it again. Such a great tone and animation.

Saw a link to this yesterday, Bang Zoom! Entertainment's president talks about the state of the industry and what could happen soon.

It's kind of strange to think of what might happen in the next year or so.

What do you guys think about this?

What a joke. Who does this guy think he is? He wants us, western customers, to stop pirating? Fansub group and volunteer manga translators provide a better product that the rubbish these guys put out. Yellow subtitles? Can this company even match OZC's 1080p translations of Code Geass, Ghost in the Shell and Black Lagoon? Dropping a mainstream Japanese manga mid way through the whole serious? That's exactly what these guys do. Bang Zoom! isn't even a Japanese studio. It's a Californian dubbing company. They can go die off. The dubs might as well be spoken by people who perfectly enunciate the American English dictionary. The president even has the audacity to pander for sympathy by mentioning that families will starve because they won't get paid for their awful dubbing. He should review the product he's selling rather than cry about piracy.

Anime is never going to die off. It's simply going to become more and more popular since it hasn't even tapped into the western market as thoroughly as they can.

Im in the mood of a very VERY depressing anime. Any suggestions?

How has anyone not recommended Saikano? It is THE most depressing sci-fi anime series I've ever read. It's probably the most depressing thing I have ever seen in anime series actually.

    • While LibreOffice is not pleased to see a new competitor, they are absolutely correct in stating that Euro-Office using a MS file standard as a default is not being truly "European." Using a MS standard just means Euro-Office is just a "bastardized MS Office Suite." (Wasn't a major purpose of Euro-Office was to get away from being captive and enslaved to MS's Office Suite??)
    • Microsoft continues its long-term policy of spying on their users--despite vehement denials. That feature will be disabled (or removed) either "elegantly" with MS providing a true way to disable it, or "quick and dirty" via a third-party who WILL come up with a way to disable it. Google has some bad news for those still using MV2-based extensions in Chromium-based browsers, particularly Chrome. The company is now removing flags responsible for Manifest V2-based extensions (uBlock Origin is one of the most popular). However, some browsers resist this change, and Opera issued a statement that it will allow users to continue using MV2 extensions for as long as possible. While Microsoft is still not ready to share new details about MV2 extensions in Microsoft Edge, the company shared important details about the way it will be updating the browser going forward. Now, Microsoft wants to update Edge every two weeks across all platforms instead of the current four-week schedule (only the Extended Stable is exempt from this change). This week, Microsoft confirmed a useful new Teams feature that is coming to the messenger soon. It also detailed all the improvements that made the platform better for users in 2026. However, not all changes are great, as the company is moving ahead with the check-in feature, which many believe will lead to employee monitoring. PowerToys received a feature update this week. Reviews are in Here is the hardware and software we reviewed this week Steven Parker reviewed a rather unorthodox device here on Neowin this week. He took for a spin the DWARF mini, the world's smallest smart telescope for night and day sky captures. It tracks objects in the sky, has a sun filter, and has a low learning curve. There is also nice build quality and a quite affordable price. Pulasthi Ariyasinghe reviewed 007 First Light. The game turned out to be a satisfying spy adventure in the James Bond universe with great gunplay and combat, impressive crowds, over-the-top action sequences, and more. There are a few quirks here and there, but overall, the game scored high on our scale. The latest drop is upgrading the visuals and regional accuracy of three metropolitan regions in the American states of Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. The 15th city update is adding eight new areas of interest that have been enhanced with high-fidelity TIN (triangulated irregular network) surface texturing in the mentioned regions. The free update highlights Chicago, Elgin, Cicero, and Arlington Heights in Illinois, as well as Minneapolis, St. Paul, Bloomington, Duluth, Brooklyn Park, Woodbury, Lakeville, Plymouth, and Blaine in Minnesota. In Wisconsin, the development has also upgraded the lands and buildings of Milwaukee, Madison, and Racine. The update lands just as one of the world's largest enthusiast flight simulation conventions, FlightSimExpo, kicks off in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota, on June 14. The Flight Sim development team's 40-minute keynote at the event can be watched here.
