Thanks man. Yeah, I've been watching the funimation dub. I actually don't mind it at all. I recognize a lot of the voices from other shows. Rei is Tien from DBZ, Sana is Keiko from YuYu Hakusho, the principal is Vegeta, Tsuyoshi's dad is Majin Buu, etc... lol. It's kinda' funny. What cracks me up every time is the animation sequence of the old woman teacher, Mrs. Ando. Her face always falls apart and she quickly powders it, then it's a close-up of her trying to look young. Sounds dumb explaining it, but watching it is hilarious

:) I really enjoyed it. It has a really nice plot that holds all the characters together. It's Shoujo but it came across a girl's perspective on events rather than the annoying archetype of boring girl chasing super rich/intelligent superman or dramatized average guy. It's very similar to Kare Kano in many respects.

Yep, I like how it's coming along so far.

Also, that site wasn't very accurate with "Anime starts/Anime Ends here". Chapter 238 is nowhere near where the anime is at, lol. Oh well, I guess I'll just use the old guess and check method...

edit: Turns out that site was referring to "Naruto" and not "Naruto Shippuuden".

Edit again: Guess n' Check prevails. Found my spot :D

The site simply stated where Naruto Shippuden starts from. Is Sasuke that interesting of a nemesis?

:woot: Eden is completely translated. *rushes off to read one of the five most highly rated sci fi manga series I've ever come across*

uF9cY.jpg

Eden: It's an Endless World! completely disappointed me. HOWEVER, if you want entertainment, this is THE manga to read right now. Think Akira meets Neon Genesis Evangelion, Ghost in the Shell and Terminator. It's jampacked with action, mature illustrations, violence and everything else you expect in sci-fi entertainment. It's a pity that it's not my cup of tea.

Here's my piece on what I thought of it on MAL:

http://myanimelist.n...?topicid=204418

I don't feel comfortable writing reviews that contain mature themes on Neowin since I like to keep this thread relatively clean to read and enjoy.w

Epic lulz with Kousuda/Yamada in B Gata H Kei, dumb and dumber at play  (Y)

I had completely forgotten about that anime :p

Also, I'm soon gonna be watching Tokyo Majin. Has anyone watched this yet?

@CentralDogma

If you like philosophy with mature themes in anime, then check out Ghost in the Shell, Texhnolyze and Ergo Proxy. Transcendentilism, existentialism and nihilism.

I enjoyed the GitS movies, but never got into the series. I haven't heard of Texhnolyze, I'll have to check that out. As for Ergo Proxy, I was just about to do a review of that:

Ergo Proxy

ErgoProxy.jpg

Status: Finished

Plot: ?In a future where the world has been ravaged by a nuclear apocalyse, there exists salvation in a domed city named "Romdo", where humans and their android servants, the AutoReiv, live in. Under the implementation of complete management control, it is a paradise where feelings are literally discarded, and the governing council dictates the way of life the citizens should live. But this utopian landscape is soon broken by a series of mystifying murders.?

This one is a depressing anime. The setting and plot take a huge deviation from what the plot I posted says, but you?ll find that out if you watch it for a few episodes. The art is rather bland and ?brown?, but that could just go to serve the mood of the series.

None of the characters were particularly dynamic either. They all seem to be on a rather heavy dose of Ritalin.

The plot is rather odd in this one. It has a good plot, and intriguing back story, but it feels like the writers decided to bury it. The back story gets ?explain? in one very odd episode and then never brought up again. In the end, it left me disappointed and wanting to know more about the back story. The ending was also kind of strange and I didn?t quite understand it, so maybe that would have satisfied my thirst.

Overall:3/10

Ergo Proxy

Status: Finished

Overall:3/10

That's a harsh score. The ridiculous segues and random bits of existentialism made this more of a showcase of dystopian art scenes than the abstract philosophical anime series it tries to be. I gave it an 8/10 since it was unique and a good example of how different anime can be from the large eyed, "cutesy" stereotypes. The animation was unique and fantastic. Instead of the bold colors, its baritone, somber colors matched the damp, dull atmosphere it presented. Other than that, it has nothing remarkable going for it.

Awesome opening song is awesome. (as well as the Radiohead ending song!)

How about another review.

Casshern Sins

Casshern-Sins-01-Large-04.jpg

Status: Finished

The Plot: ”A revamp of the classic anime series, the world is plagued by a decay of all life both natural and robotic. The light of the world, it's sun called the moon, Luna, was kill by the cyborg Casshern; bringing with him the end of the world called the Ruin.”

This anime is on the depressing side. It deals with the concept of death, and the way that people (and robots) deal with their mortality. There are a few moments of in it that got me choked up a bit, but it wasn’t as emotional as some might expect.

IMO, the plot fell short. It felt like the story took a few episodes to really take off, and petered out before the end. After it was over, I felt like I had more questions about it than when I started (though I didn’t know what those questions were). Because it was a reimagining of the original Casshern, I felt like I might be missing some things that viewers of the original might have remembered.

Overall:4/10

Dude,

6/10 MINIMUM.

I don't think you are suited to watch such series.

This is at least 7/10

Both of those series show originality.

They cannot be bundled with stereotypical representations of Japanese animation.

The background scenery in both shows plays a major role, so do the dark colors in playing with your mood.

Similarly to Boogiepop Phantom's dull almost colorless presentation, but not to such extremes.

The unfolding of the story, character development, scenery play very nice together in terms of a positive emotional response (for a dark/trajedy/drama like series anyway).

4/10 and 3/10 are for shows that are redundant with cut and paste character personalities and onslaught of repetitive elements that bury the story completely, such as Naturo / Inuyasha, etc.

Shows that no critic would be able to sit through voluntarily.

Both series deal a lot with the human condition, which I do enjoy.

I actually don't remember the art so well, as I haven't seen it in about a year. The thing is, I usually put story before plot as far as liking an anime. So, that might be why I didn't take to it. But, I think an anime should be able to do both; I think they should be able to have a backdrop of well drawn art and have philosophical themes, but be able to tell a story as well. And I think they had some good concepts as far as story, but failed to capitalize on it.

As far as the numerical score (which is kind of hard for me to assign to animes), I'm giving anime's I think would be worth watching >5, and anything I wouldn't recommend a <5. So, a 3 isn't awful, I just wouldn't recommend it.

Like I said, I’m not much for assigning numerical scores to anime’s. It’s really a barometer for MY enjoyment level during the series(5 is bare minimum, <5 I didn’t enjoy, >5 I enjoyed ). So, take that as you will. If you like some of the thing I like, you might like things I rate highly, and vise versa with thing I dislike .So in that context, 3 and 4 aren’t particularly bad, I just came out of it underwhelmed.

In fact I might just leave numerical scores out on my next review, as people are getting hung up on that. You should be able to surmise your own opinion from the paragraph I write, not the score.

And I also agree, the art in these anime’s are suited to the overall mood.

Dude,

Casshern Sins is HORRIBLE. It has a male lead with a super high tech costume who looks as flexible as plastic questioning his existence and wonders whether he is a robot. Random robots that look stacked randomly interrupt the lead's existential contemplations by arrogantly stating that they are pirate robots and then somehow fight. It's as if FLCL was interpreted as a serious anime. If you like Casshern Sins, you'll definitely enjoy Tengen Toppen Gurren Lagaan.

Casshern Sins has as much to do with with the human condition as Sailor Moon has with Japanese politics. It's a silly, immature anime series. It's completely dull and takes on the same type of animation that's too prevalent in today's anime. Bold, single colors painted on with a simply shadow with the addition of the typical big eyes.

Inuyasha is actually a good anime series because they cater well to their audience. It's a manga series that has continued over 12 years with more than 550 chapters. Why fix something when they have such a huge demand? The same thing can be said about Bleach and One Piece. Naruto, unlike its competitors, uses a terrible plot twist (its nemesis is one of the worst I've EVER come across).

Boogiepop Phantom and Ergo Proxy are not even close to being good philosophical anime shows. They're simply good showcases of dystopian/dark worlds with good entertainment value. They do not have any depth. I can trace their plots with simply connect the dots with crossing over lines.

if you still want the chapter relating to the most recent Naruto Shippuuden episode check out chapter 420

Also did you get a cupcake?

and WTF was with that Rain?

Black with red logo?

I was going to go for a cupcake but the ice cream was more appealing for some reason. Funny how all the guys were around the tray hunting for a chocolate one (only the ginger ones were left) and I just came by, picked up a chocolate one and walked off - they all looked confused

All I can say about that rain is that it was a damn bitch getting to and leaving the cinema :pinch:

    • I have never been a huge fan of libre, it feels really good but exactly when you need an advance feature for data wrangling it falls short every time or has bugs. I am all for euro office if they can deliver a good and usable alternative to MS office with backing of govt function.
    • Go on, I'll bite. How does windows (nice comment on an 'article' which doesn't actually involve it ) lock users out of their data then? Been using it since 3.1 back in 92 and not once have I been locked out of my data? Perhaps you mean Bitlocker? In which case the average user (who doesn't mess about) will have been forced to use a MSA, and in which case the recovery key would have been saved to said account..... If the user did happen to bodge around and not use an MSA then Bitlocker wouldn't have become live (as it cannot without a safe place to store the key) I want to point out Bitlocker and MSA are not connected and you can of course force it on without a safe place to store the key, but you do that with your eyes open. So your standard consumer who knows no better sets up an MSA, gets bitlocker and a recovery key stored off box, with a route to reset their password. All of this notwithstanding the fact, if your data is important, you back it up, no ifs, no buts, no-ones responsibility other than your own. Important data lives in at least two locations, one of which is offline and recovery is tested, otherwise that data wasn't really that important. Disks, fail, laptops get lost, phones end up down the toilet, tablets get stolen, if your only copy of data is on a single device you're doing it wrong.
    • Clearly that feature isn't for us. It's for the ad spam marketers so they can more directly target us about going to places we might want to go again...but without understanding context clues. Like for the flight someone took for a friend's funeral. We want to be reminded of that every time we open an app, a browser, or email, right? Right, Siri?
    • Is your Apple Watch supported? Check the watchOS 27 compatibility list by Aditya Tiwari Apple kicked off WWDC 2026 with a ton of announcements, mostly centered around Apple Intelligence improvements, the Siri AI, and Liquid Glass updates. However, there is a lot of other stuff that couldn't catch the limelight. Let's talk about watchOS 27 and which models are supported by the newest operating system. According to the Cupertino giant, watchOS 27 will be supported on the following Apple Watch models when it arrives later this year: Apple Watch Ultra 3 Apple Watch Series 11 Apple Watch SE 3 Apple Watch Series 10 Apple Watch Ultra 2 It's a stark contrast with last year's watchOS 26 update, which had almost a dozen Apple Watch models in its list of supported devices. Apple supported models all the way back to Apple Watch Series 6. That said, if you own one of the five models, you'll need an iPhone 11 (or later) with iOS 27 to install the latest update. Yes, Apple has shown some extra love to the iPhone 11, and it old horse supports the iOS 27 update. watchOS 27 beta 1 is now available for developers and interested power users through the Apple Developer Program. So, if you're among those who like to play with fire, you can download it to your supported Apple Watch. Otherwise, the public beta for watchOS 27 will be available next month. The freshly baked Apple Watch update comes with Siri AI - an advanced, fully conversational version of Siri powered by Apple Intelligence due for later this year. A new dynamic app grid features icons for five Siri-suggested apps. You can use a new tap gesture to open a widget in the Smart Stack, and a new Find My app finally clears the mess of Find Devices, Find Items, and Find People on Apple Watch. Workout Buddy can run without an iPhone nearby and offers new insights based on data, including your progress for pace, distance, and workout duration. Apple improved its motion tracking algorithms to measure the distance of indoor treadmill runs and walks more precisely. Speaking of other changes, the music playback on watchOS 27 starts faster and you can create custom passes for any membership or card that uses a QR code or barcode, then easily access them in the Wallet app or pin in the Smart Stack.
