T_T Why is FMA: Brotherhood's animation so bland? It looks like they crossed Soul Eater's animation style with FMA manga. There are no details on characters except single colors with one gray texture to act as a shadow. The animation trend since Code Geass has been disturbing. The voice acting is quite annoying too with Ed's nasal Japanese.

What? BONES did superb work on the animation, the fact that it's so simple and fluid makes you focus on the story.

The studio put too much detail in special effects of fights rather than flesh out the facial emotions of the characters. When I think about it more, Soul Eater features many similarities with Brotherhood in terms of fight animations and similar plot devices. Everyone should check the series out once they're done with FMA:B. It's a good series but I got bored half way through because it isn't my cup of tea.

Did anyone notice how the producers/mangaka advance the relationship between Winry and Ed by making Winry talk to herself about her back fetish? It's one of the creepiest ways of male romantic admiration in Shounen anime and manga.

@Capric0rn

Bradley is referred to as the Fuhrer... The Fuhrer... No country calls its leader that unless it's a homage to Nazi Germany. End Game.

I'd have to disagree. I had no problem myself with how the emotions of the characters were portrayed visually (either in humorous or serious scenes), they were perfect (Y)

End game of what? I still don't see the reason to call anyone a fascist. And it's also still what the Mangaka wanted to write. Is it really such a bad thing to take inspiration of stuff that happened in the past of this world? No. End Game.

Also, BONES did an amazing job on the animation of FMA:B. It might be similar to another anime, it might not be. Does it really matter? No. Does it take away that they've done an amazing job? No.

Elfen Lied was pretty good. Hunter X Hunter was very interesting and I'm really sad it's over. It had pretty dynamic characters and some you like, then hate, then maybe like again, and some just the opposite.

As for me, I just finished Angel beatz which was interesting. The end was very tear jerking. I also finished B Gata H Kei, which, honestly, might be the worst anime I have ever seen in the 10 years I've been watching anime. When it finally starts to somewhat get interesting, the show's over. I don't even hope for a second season, I wouldn't watch it.

I can't believe how brutal violent Elfen Lied is, I was pretty surprised at first haha.. I wonder if little kids were mistakenly shown that :|

That's good news about Hunter x Hunter, I was either going to watch that next along with a couple others like Monster or Kino's Journey. I really like long adventure animes, seeing as One Piece is one of my favourite shows! :D

pQ5H5.jpg

Completed Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. It has taken some surprising twists (animation wise) and added a style to the manga scenes that I did not expect.

6.5/10

I will be posting an in depth review on my blog tonight that will take the whole Fullmetal Alchemist universe in its entirety while comparing it to its competitors in its genre such as One Piece, Bleach and Naruto. (No, it's not something I will write with the intent of fun from trolling people who have different tastes.)

Don't read the manga. I implore you not to. You will need mind bleach. I was confused on whether the mangaka (who is a woman) wrote it from her fascination for snuff porn or something as grotesque.

I suggest skipping Hunter x Hunter and go for Yu Yu Hakusho and Kino's Journey instead. When it comes to good shounen action adventure series, I would like to argue that One Piece is as good as you can get and has trumped all the shounen series I have read and watched.

Thanks for the request I think I'll do just that. Just read a synopsis and it looks good (Y)

I finished Elfen Lied yesterday and liked the ending a lot, although it was sad. I didn't really understand the last scene though, why did the clock start and who was the dark figure in the doorway? Are you supposed to know because I can't figure it out lol..

Don't look too much into it. The anime series essentially is the producers' and director's effort to tone down the violence and rewrite second half of the story and simply base it on the manga. What you end up with is a toned down version of violence and plot holes that make you wonder. The ending scene is a feeble attempt at trying to give the anime a mysterious ending to mask itself as something deep (like silly theme that there is a demon in all of us, blah blah blah). I personally did not like the anime series despite the great soundtrack, which was both eerie, profound and chilling.

(Warning: Manga spoilers) <--- I still suggest reading Wikipedia instead of traumatizing yourself with the manga. Imagine Elfen Lied x 9000. Vegeta won't even be able to measure the amount of messed up things that happen in that manga. I posted a review of the manga previously that I hid with spoilers because of how graphic the manga is and it definitely warrants the 18+ label.

During the final episode, Nyu cuts her hair to try to be in appearance like his deceased little sister Kanae, whom Kohta claimed to have said horrible things to her before she died in the hands of Lucy. When Kohta mused if Kanae would ever forgive him for what he said, Nyu copied Kanae's appearance of short hair and a bow and, on account of Kohta asking Nyu what she was up to, said, 'I'm Kanae!' and said she forgave Kohta so he wouldn't be sad. Coincidentally, this is the same hairstyle Lucy donned in her youth. She is subverted by Lucy for a larger portion of the manga's final volumes, but reemerges in chapter 106, helping her other personality stop a third personality, based entirely on Diclonius instincts (which in flashbacks, was what urged Lucy to start killing), from harming Kohta. She then urges him to kill her and fulfill the promise he made with Lucy so long ago, which he does.

After her death, Kohta names his daughter after her. His repressed memories are triggered when Lucy kills a whole army in front of him, afterwards singing Lilium, the song that brought them together. He is more forgiving in the anime, even kissing Lucy and stating that he still loves her and her Nyuu persona though he proclaims that he cannot bring himself to fully forgive her for the murder of his family. In contrast, once he gets his memories back in the manga, he is truly unforgiving towards her for killing his father and sister. In the last chapter, he fulfills his promise to Lucy and kills her. Later, he and Yuka are married, and subsequently name their daughter "Nyu".

The mangaka is currently publishing another manga that's the polar opposite of Elfen Lied.

Here's my MAL response to Elfen Lied:

Just started watching some new anime

Densetsu no Yuusha no Densetsu – The story was all over the place, maybe after watching more episodes I will get it but truly not a good way to start. (Don't know if I will watch again or not too much talk going on not enough action)

Occult Academy – Looks really interesting story narration wise it was much better and animation was also decent. (Defiantly watch thumbs_up.gif)

High school of the Dead – I guess it goes the same was as densetsu no Yuusha no densetsu, I know all the zombie stuff is cliché but still little explanation in the beginning is a good idea. (Maybe I'll watch it but I'm not much fan of sad zombie stuff, but one thing for sure there are huge areolas and badonkadonks laugh.gif )

Oh good because I still have been thinking about that ending and didn't know what to make of it!

I'm going to start watching that new show you recommended today :D

^You're in for a nice ride :D Be sure to watch Durarara afterwards. Several characters from Baccano have a cameo in it plus Baccano images are being used on movie posters at theaters in Durarara.

I've even read things about Baccano characters seeing characters from Durarara in the period between the ending of Baccano and the beginning of Durarara. Not sure if it was official stuff or not but it seemed interesting to say the least :)

Don't let the "old style animation" get to you. I found the show when I still in middle school while it was on Toonami (Cartoon Network). Rurouni Kenshin + Yu Yu Hakusho back to back = AWESOME hour!

    • I'm fine with a little reasonable promotion of Edge, but the degree which they do it right now I consider extremely unreasonable.
    • Microsoft AI boss no longer believes that AI will replace human workers by David Uzondu Mustafa Suleyman, the head of Microsoft AI, recently took back his statements concerning white-collar jobs that he gave to the Financial Times in an interview made back in February, where he claimed that AI would replace office workers within 12 to 18 months. On Monday's episode of The Verge's Decoder, Suleyman recast the technology as more like a helpmate than a tool designed to take over your job. He explained that smaller office duties will "increasingly become digitized, automated" as people generate more digital materials. During the discussion, Suleyman emphasized a "very important distinction" between "tasks" and "jobs" to clarify his previous claims. He argued that his earlier comments only referred to individual actions that people perform at their desks. Suleyman used to work for DeepMind, the research lab he co-founded in 2010 alongside Demis Hassabis and Shane Legg, before he left in 2022 to establish Inflection AI and build an empathetic digital assistant. Microsoft hired him in March 2024 to lead its newly formed "Microsoft AI" division, placing him in charge of consumer products like Copilot, Bing, and Edge. His February comments also detailed plans for Microsoft to achieve self-sufficiency with a $140 billion infrastructure budget to train frontier models, predicting that creating a customized AI will soon feel like creating a podcast or a new blog: The 41-year-old is not the only AI executive who's softened his "AI will replace you" stance. OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, last month used X to push back against employment panic by arguing that his startup builds tools to assist humans rather than build replacements. He had previously garnered backlash by suggesting that many modern office roles that AI might replace did not qualify as "real work" in the first place, at least when you compare desk jobs to physical, historical labor like farming.

    • Meta will now use data from outside businesses to personalize AI responses by David Uzondu In an update that's rolling out globally (except in a handful of countries), Meta will use your data from outside businesses to personalize your AI responses and your primary feeds. Meta already utilizes your shopping activity to target ads, but the company now plans to expand this tracking to personalize other "parts of your experience" like feed algorithms and AI assistant chats. The company is replacing the two settings ("Your activity off Meta technologies" and "Activity from other businesses") that currently let you disconnect off-platform activity with a single, renamed setting called Activity from other businesses. If you don't want Meta to manipulate your feed and AI responses using your outside history, you can just turn the Activity from other businesses setting off in your account settings. This toggle resides within your Accounts Center, applying your choice to every connected profile. Turning this off will not stop companies from sending your data to Meta. The company will still collect your web interactions, but it only uses them to train products, while still accessing external accounts you connect. When The Verge spoke to Meta spokesperson Emil Vazquez, the representative said that this update will exclude several locations at launch, including the European region, the UK, Brazil, Thailand, South Africa, Turkey, South Korea, Ecuador, Nigeria, and Kenya. The new update comes at a time when the social media giant is recovering from a major PR disaster involving generative AI. Last week, there was a huge security issue on Instagram where attackers figured out a way to trick Meta AI into handing over account ownership (even if the victim had 2FA enabled). Some of the affected accounts include the dormant Obama White House profile, cosmetics brand Sephora, the Chief Master Sergeant of the Space Force, and security researcher Jane Manchun Wong. Internally, the company also had to scale back plans on its Model Capability Initiative (MCI), an employee-monitoring program designed to train corporate AI models by recording worker keystrokes and screen activity, after employees raised privacy concerns and complained about severe battery life drain.
    • JetBrains is working to cut false positives in RustRover 2026.2 by David Uzondu Recently, JetBrains released the fifth EAP build of its dedicated IDE, RustRover 2026.2, bringing improvements like a Run gutter icon for criterion_main! macro benchmarking and a feature that alerts you when there are unused traits in your current scope. Now, the company is out with a blog post addressing one of the "most common" complaints from users: false positives. In RustRover, a false positive occurs when the editor incorrectly highlights something as an error even though the project compiles and runs successfully. This mismatch flags a gap between the IDE's internal intelligence and the actual compiler. When the editor flashes red warnings over perfectly valid code, developers lose trust in the tool, which stalls momentum. Traditionally, RustRover runs cargo check to detect compiler errors and warnings, but it also relies on its own code analysis engine to power real-time features. To provide quick feedback, this engine parses your source code into a syntax tree while inferring types and resolving names as you type. Because this engine must work on broken, half-written code and react instantly, its logic sometimes diverges from the compiler's, producing false positives that do not exist in the compiler's eyes. JetBrains said that it has a "dedicated task force" focused specifically on identifying and fixing false positives by analyzing user reports and examining large-scale open-source projects. To speed up this process, the team built an internal system modeled after Crater, the famous Rust project that compiles and runs tests for every single crate published on crates.io. This automated pipeline compares the diagnostics from RustRover's analysis with actual compiler output to catch discrepancies before they reach users, ensuring smoother workflows. RustRover, for those who're unaware, is a dedicated IDE designed specifically for Rust developers. It's been around for a couple of years now, providing features like built-in debugging via LLDB, seamless cargo integration, advanced macro expansion, and HTML support. JetBrains distributes the app under two licensing models: a paid commercial subscription and a free option for non-commercial use.
