New Moon Confirmed and Actors on Board!

?Twilight? fans who stormed into theaters as soon as the vampire romance film was released last Friday can rejoice at the news that a sequel is sure to follow, with all the major cast members on board.

Stephenie Meyer?s young adult novels concerning the love story between Bella Swan and Edward Cullen has created a frenzy among female adolescents and it was to be expected that a big-screen adaptation was to enjoy similar success.

Summit Entertainment?s ?Twilight? pulled in a whopping $70 million last weekend, despite box office analysts? vision of a maximum $60 million, due to anticipated low interest among male moviegoers.

The film marks the biggest opening weekend ever for a female director, with Catherine Hardwicke having surpassed the previous $41.1 million record, established by Mimi Leder in 1998 with ?Deep Impact.?

Hardwicke has signed on to direct the sequel, titled ?New Moon,? while all the major cast members are also on board to star in the upcoming installment, scheduled for release in 2010.

Robert Pattinson portrays vampire Edward Cullen, who has the body of a 17-year-old and the life experience of a man over 100. Edward is no ordinary vampire though, as he has deep moral beliefs and refuses to harm humans. He falls in love with Bella Swan, the teenage girl, portrayed by Kristen Stewart, who is willing to become a vampire herself in order to be with Edward.

Co-stars Rachelle Lefevre, Edi Gathegi and Taylor Lautner have also signed for the next installment. Variety previously reported Pattinson screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg has signed on to pen ?New Moon? and possible third installment ?Eclipse.?

For those who hasn't read New Moon yet, I'll try not to spoil anything. But the first half is excruciatingly slow. I can tell the majority of the movie is gonna be based on the last few chapters of the book.

I am very skeptical about a New Moon movie but I will watch it of course. After watching Twilight in theaters I thought it was pretty good but over the weekend I reread Twilight and it is miles better than the movie. They kept the very basic plot in the movie but really butchered the scenes. The only thing they probably got down good is the choice of actors even if I'm not totally sold on Edward and Bella's actors the rest are nearly perfect.

I just hope when Twilight comes out on DVD they do an "extended" cut to add in much of the stuff from the book they cut. New Moon needs to be at least 2.5 hours to even be coherent in theaters imo.

This has not been a good weekend for female filmmakers, which is a shame because there actually seemed to be some progress in Hollywood for a few minutes there. Last month, Catherine Hardwicke's Twilight became the top opening movie by a woman director, and there were hopes for Lexi Alexander's Punisher: War Zone opening this past weekend. Just as the latter bombed, Nikki Finke's Deadline Hollywood Daily has broken the story that Catherine Hardwicke has been removed from the previously announced sequel New Moon, which many assumed Hardwicke would helm.

I've confirmed that Summit Entertainment is taking Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke off the sequel in this big new franchise. No doubt my posting this will speed up the studio's announcement, and Summit will surely try to spin this as all going down amicably.... The word from inside Summit is that Hardwicke, the acclaimed Thirteen director, "was 'difficult' and 'irrational' during the making of Twilight," one insider explains to me. "That doesn't mean anything when you're talking about a filmmaker because they all are, but still..."

Dakota Fanning Joins "New Moon"?

Although there's been no official announcement, Dakota Fanning is confirming her interest in the role of Jane in "Twilight" sequel "New Moon." Jane, a vampire with dangerous mental powers, is a guard for the Italian sect known as the Volturi.

"It's definitely possible. I really hope it works out," Fanning told Hitfix.com. "It would be a really fantastic experience, I'm sure."

"I think that the actors are amazing," the 14-year-old actress, who seems to have the support of "Twilight" fans, told E! Online. "It would be really cool to be a part of that. I'm a big fan."

In a "New Moon" casting notice that went out earlier this month, Jane is described as a "petite blonde with a ... Botticelli angel-like face ... [and] crimson irises," E! reported. The notice also said that "fellow Volturi guards Demetri and Felix ... are three times the size of her, [and] they are terrified of her."

"We are considering all actors that have the unique requirements for the look of Jane, Dakota being one of them," a rep for Summit Entertainment told "Access Hollywood" regarding the rumors of Fanning's casting in the sequel to the hit vampire flick.

As of September, Fanning had yet to read any of the "Twilight" books, despite showing an interest in the series. "I haven't read them, but I have a lot of friends that read them all the time," she told MTV News. "They're so excited about the movie. When I went to Comic-Con, 'Twilight' was there. I have to read these books now, 'cause everybody's reading them, and I'm sure they're fantastic."

Dakota Fanning Officially Joins Twilight's New Moon Cast

Not that this will really have any major impact on the eventual box office totals for The Twilight Saga: New Moon, but it looks like 15-year-old actress Dakota Fanning will indeed appear in New Moon after all. It was first rumored in January that she was interested in joining, but confirmed only recently by People magazine. Fanning will play the character Jane, a sinister vampire with an angelic exterior who works for the Volturi. Fanning as a bad girl? Okay, maybe I am more interested in this than I should be? But then again, I don't know anything about the Twilight series at all. Is her character really that bad anyway?

Production on The Twilight Saga: New Moon will begin in Vancouver this month for a November 20th release later this year. Nikki Reed, who plays Rosalie Hale in the film, also told People that "we're shooting the rest of the films back to back." Of course, Summit Entertainment is not only trying to save costs (by shooting that way), but trying to capitalize on the hype, so why not put them out in rapid succession before everyone gets older and salaries get more inflated? I'm actually quite curious whether Fanning's involvement will help the box office (I really doubt it) or just bring more attention to the whole thing?

No surprise that this is being released, the first movie did really well

I just watched Twilight, went in expecting a vampire movie. Still pondering why I never saw any fangs at all. Realized there was a series of books so I downloaded all the eBooks. Started reading the first one and was blown away...by how insanely pathetic it was. I know the author (Stephenie Meyer) knows what it's like for a girl to go through puberty - that massively emotional and confusing phase of a female's life. The entire thread read like a cluster **** of hormone imbalanced stupidity. I couldn't take any of the blabbing without a descriptive nature of what was going on. The author is horrible and it's obvious how much of a disgusting gooey love story it was.

Meyer had to make Edward a complete idiot (not being able to read her mind) to fall in love with Isabella. That's just sad.

Good thing the movie left most of that out. From the summary of the remaining books I think this will be the only one that I see. Werewolves and vampire judges and crap.

Curious that Underworld came out in 2003 and yet Meyer's book came out in 2005. I wonder if it was her inspiration? Copying off of that movie?

I think I finally agree 100 percent with what ThirtyThree has said. I didn't read the whole book though - I read the first few pages. Way too much ****ing estrogen for me. I saw the film with my wife who thoroughly enjoyed the books - She joined me in laughing at the first 3/4 of the film.

Oh, I didn't read the whole book either. I read the first chapter, got bored of the numbing pain in my head, skipped a few chapters, got bored again, skipped some more, then deleted all the eBooks. Everything I read was the same horrible writing. I don't think I like many books written by women. I even found myself skipping entire pages when I read the last few Harry Potter books, written by J.K. Rowling.

Only books I read cover to cover were from male authors. Michael Crichton was my favorite.

my girl friends... have made me read these books and I actually liked them a bit. wish there was more violence but it's ok, it's a chick flick.

the movie was horrible. I hated it... and regret be convinced to watch it. the cast is very young and it will take them a few more movies to get it right. the bad acting is a result of the lack of experience so i hope that goes away as time goes by.

not putting the director down cause she is a woman. but she did a terrible job. I would never let this first movie show after reading that book.

side note: if you haven't read the books and don't like reading too much, buy the audio tapes of it. they are red by this lady who has a very good voice for the character bella and does a very good job reading the book. I think I enjoyed her reading more than the content of the book.

I haven't read any of the books read (blimming uni work!) but I watched the movie, and it was better than I was expecting. My only criticism is that they seemed to fall in love waaaay too quickly, so some of the scenes with them flying around the forest I found a bit funny.

It's much better in the book, they build up to that a bit better, as with most big films they cut out alot but I heard they are on deleted scenes.
