no no go and buy that spec looks fantastic.

go and buy that spec, you will be an idiot, it will be out of date before it has even left the warehouse.

i7 absolutly but rapes it lol

I don't rate that.

The current processor to have is Core i7. The performance is extreme. Don't waste your time with ye olde core 2 quads. CustomPC did a good writeup on the i7, and even the base 920 model at stock blows every other CPU in the market out the water. Pair that up to a good graphics card and 3GB of DDR3 and your lauging. Feel free to ignore this post if you want, but all the benchmark figures speak for themselves tbh.

EDIT: You would also probably want a 1920 x 1080 23/24 TFT, again 1680 x 1050 22 is old school. If you have over a grand to spend may as well go for the latest and greatest; best you can get for the money.

wake up about the screens please. just because you got one last month and replaced a 22 doesnt mean they are old school. if anybody had told you before that a 22 was old school you would have slated them.

I agree with getting a 24" cause if youre gonna get that much power it will be wasted on a low res screen.

Also at the person saying the Core i7 is not good value for money.

I agree, in this circumstance esp.

Core i7s ARE cheaper cpus that outperform many chips in their price range on almost everything with the exception of games. (most which will hit the GPU bottleneck long before the CPU speed becomes an issue)

BUT

Core i7 has a very high entry price due to (and the low <1.65 volt) DDR3 and new socket motherboards. Making it only the choice for extreme future proofers and spectards.

That being said if i was building a machine for myself i would def. get Core i7. I dont just game though..

+ ?50 old more for a board...& RAM...

?50 is cutting it fine! A decent i7 board and RAM cost nearly ?600 alone! That's without the processor.

Intel C2Q - ?218.49

Asus Maximus II - ?156.51

OCZ 8Gb DDR2 - ?1?501.48.48

Intel Core i7 - ?233.17

Asus Rampage II - ?333.49

OCZ 6Gb DDR3 -?813.90?813.90

It's all good saying go for the i7 but it means higher costs! The budget is high enough without going over the ?1300 limit. But, I'm willing to hear other suggestions, can someone spec me an i7 gaming system. No more than ?1300.

I meant ?50+ for a board that you listed.

Gigabyte GA-EX58-DS4 ?193.86

and another ?50 (ok maybe more) then the DDR2 2x 4GB kits

http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/6GB-(3x2GB)...ed-CAS-9-9-9-24

6GB (3x2GB) ?182.97

Bit cheaper with better timings

6GB (3x2GB) ?172.50

Id get a 10K RPM Drive as your main OS drive and run a DATA as a secondary drive.

Get a bigger Power Supply, you never know when you will need it, it helps honestly. (750+W)

I have the same processor, cooling it with a Thermaltake V1, got it up to 3.8ghz.

Just splurge and go for the 280GTX, it'll be worth it in the end lol.

Motherboard is a good choice, so is the memory.

Good luck! With all that you will easily peak out in vista at a 5.9 (which is the highest).

Dont' listen to the hole Get i7 of fail stuff, i7 is just the newest technology, people will be sayin GET THE i8! etc etc etc. People said wait till the LGA 775 lol..

Don't need a 10K RPM drive, really...

Get a bigger PSU? 650W is already way more than what he needs for that system. That system will probably draw no more than 300W at load....he has a 650W and you're telling him to get a bigger one? What do you think needs? 1000W?

As for Thermaltake V1, Xigmatek S1283, OCZ Vendetta 2, Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer are all cheaper and will perform better.

It's not just about getting the biggest and "best" hardware and just putting it all together.

Im content with my 3.8ghz 30c idle mid 40's load.

Can i please ask something, will the case fan be coming with that case since i'm planning to build my pc with that case.. :p

Since i don't see any other fans on the list :) Also do you guys recommending to buy any other fans? i mean all that won't get too hot? hehe

Antec P182 has 120mm TriCool at the front drawing in air, at the rear and top as exhaust.

You could of course get a pre-built system. I just bought a Dell Studio XPS of the following specs for ?649.90 inc tax/del :

- Intel Core i7 920

- 4GB DDR3 RAM

- 640GB Sata Hard Drive

- Blu-Ray Disk Burner

- ATI Radeon 3650 (can be upgraded to any PCI-E card)

- Free Creative 2GB Vado Camcorder

- Multimedia keyboard, Laser Mouse

- Vista Home Premium 64-bit

I'm quite looking forward to it:))

Yeap, tho I replaced them with 3 72cfm silenx fans that are dead silent and move more air.

4GB on i7 is... STUPID, it means either 2x2gb or 4x1gb, and i7s chipsets are triple channel, meaning you want 3 sticks.

Beastage

Okay. Its 4 x 1GB; I will take out a stick when I get it and see if it goes any faster. I don't think Dell would sell something thats not going to work though tbh.

You'd be surprised. They sold some of my customers XPS systems with 4 gigs of ram and Vista 32 bit. They didn't consult me when they bought it. They just ordered and called me when it came in.

I never knew that about triple channel. Is it a must that it must have 3 sticks or a recommendation? Just wondering why?

Also, what's with the talk that the i7 doesn't work as well as the Core2Quad on games? Truth or just rumours?

It will work fine with just 2 sticks but for the best performance they recommend triple channel.

    • What they really need to do is automatically spell "loses" and "lose" correctly since nobody seems to know how to anymore. Then they blame spellcheck/autocomplete and don't realize autocomplete is just filling in the word for them automatically so it was misspelled in the first place.
    • If someone chooses to continue using SB and therefore goes through the manual intervention in the thread, afterwards the BSOD problem is gone. Whether they then re-enable the task doesn't matter, they're done, though on such machines it might pay to keep it disabled in case the next update (if there is a next) causes the same problem. OTOH, if someone disables SB in the BIOS, the problem is also gone. Incidentally, I noticed that this task exists even on machines that don't support SB. It's just installed across the board...and runs. Doing what on such machines is a little hazy.
