Can not install a program because of the error 1335

Question

I have a computer for one of my client , I tried to install Microsoft office 2003 and it give me error message 1335??..I though problem with my CD, then I used different CD same error message.

Error 1335. The cabinet file 'name.cab' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package

After spending hours to solve this issue I could not , I tried many all of them did not help me out.

Then I formatted hard drive and I installed fresh copy of windows XP SP2, every thing going fine.

Now I tried to install office again same problem , then I tried to use adobe Photoshop CD same error message 1335 , then I tried to install SP3 same error message 1335.

Now I have been convinced that the problem with the western digital hard disk ( WD800JB) IDE not SATA, I downloaded utility for WD to test (short and extended) the hard disk the result shows me there is no error.

What could be causing this problem ? Why installation went smoothly while installing programs did not ? if the CD Rom (SATA not IDE) would have causing this problem why not with windows CD ?

Be aware after fresh installation I do not have any firewall or antivirus yet.

Hello,

It might be helpful to know what things you tried to resolve the issue. Since you didn't say what steps you took to troubleshoot the problem or what the results were, it is difficult to know what to recommend.

Without knowing more about the situation, here are a few things you could try:

  • Delete the contents of the %windir%\TEMP\ and %temp% directories and re-run the installs.
  • Download and install the Windows Installer 4.5 Redistributable on the computer.
  • Download and run the Windows Installer Clean-Up Utility on the computer.
  • Cleaning the optical drive in the computer and re-running the install from the installation media.
  • Try copying one of the CDs on a different computer to a USB flash drive, then taking the USB flash drive to this computer, copying the files to its hard disk drive and running the install from there. If there is a problem with the optical drive in the computer, this should let you get around it.

If you already tried these things and they didn't work, then other forum members may have some suggestions that work.

Hello goretsky

Delete the contents of the %windir%\TEMP\ and %temp% directories and re-run the installs.

After the fresh installtion nothing is there.

Download and install the Windows Installer 4.5 Redistributable on the computer.

Download and run the Windows Installer Clean-Up Utility on the computer.

Were not helpful so solve the problem.

Cleaning the optical drive in the computer and re-running the install from the installation media.

I used different CD Rom drive still same problem is going on

With Adobe Acrobat I received this error

Error 1335. The cabinet file ?Data1.cab? required required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package

With windows I received this error

Installation Error:File not Found

A required installation file YB561408.CAB could not be found

Try copying one of the CDs on a different computer to a USB flash drive, then taking the USB flash drive to this computer, copying the files to its hard disk drive and running the install from there. If there is a problem with the optical drive in the computer, this should let you get around it.

I tried to copy that and still i am experiencing same problem

The only other solution to this that I've seen is using the /MAXMEM switch in boot.ini, if you go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314810 this has a full explaination of what it means. (Though it says Office XP, 2000, I've seen it mentioned as a solution for all sorts of 1335 errors) Whether it will actually work or not...mileage may vary.

Hello,

Reading Donkey88's reply made me think of something. Have you tested the computer for memory errors using a program such as Memtest86+? If so, were any errors found after running the program overnight?

Yes I did , it passed the test.

But when I replaced the RAM , it worked fine without any problem.

    • Microsoft released new Defender update for Windows 11, 10, Server ISO installations by Sayan Sen Microsoft releases new Windows Defender update packages very frequently to protect against various newly discovered malware. Once a while every three months or so, the company also pushes out these updates to Windows images (WIM and VHD) and ISOs, that are used to install Windows. Hence with the newest Windows 11 update available via the official MCT tool, you should get these definitions. This update package is necessary as a Windows installation image may contain old, outdated anti-malware definitions and software binaries. Aside from better security, these updates can also provide improved performance benefits in some cases. When a new Windows installation is set up, there may be a temporary security risk due to outdated Microsoft Defender protection in the OS installation images. This happens because the antimalware software included in these images might not be up to date. Thus Microsoft says that these updated definitions essentially help close this protection gap. Microsoft delivered the latest security definitions for Windows images via security intelligence update version 1.445.323.0. The Defender package version is also the same. It applies to Windows 11, Windows 10 ESU, Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021, Win 10 Ent LTSC 2019, Win 10 Ent LTSB 2016, Windows Server 2022, Windows Server 2019, and Windows Server 2016. Microsoft writes: "This package updates the anti-malware client, anti-malware engine, and signature versions in the OS installation images to following versions: Platform version: 4.18.26040.7 Engine version: 1.1.26040.8 Security intelligence version: 1.447.236.0" From Microsoft's security bulletin, we learn that the security intelligence update version 1.447.236.0 was released early last month and adds threat detections for various malware like trojan, backdoor exploits, ransomware, stealers, AutoKMS, and more. For those wondering, the latest intelligence update is version 1.451.297.0 at the time of writing.
