BBC iPlayer on PS3 now official

Recommended Posts

Now if only BBC iPlayer could work outside of the U.K. without proxies, etc. And say what you feel about British television, but there are some excellent documentaries, radio, and other resources that are also streamed through iPlayer.

BBC radio sucks too :p

I don't wanna hear about no skanky Russell Brand and who he's bedded.

Rock radio (96.3) ftw

The best tv shows: American Dad, South Park, The Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama, Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, Nevermind The Buzzcocks, The Gadget Show, Fonejacker, The IT Crowd, 8 Out Of 10 Cats, Road Wars, Street Wars, The Big Bang Theory, Lost, Peep Show & 8 Simple Rules.

Only one of them is on the BBC and even then it sucks after Bailey leaving (N)

So yeah :p

I agree with those ones. :p

And also Heroes which is now on BBC2, woo.

Gordan Ramsey

OMGOGOMOGMOGMOMWOTUGOUDGHOIJWTF!

So am I, and I enjoy the good BBC shows ;)

Oh, and my point is made! :p

But nah, the Scottish are fine, its those thieving English you have to watch out for.

You all have terrible taste in tv  :p

Btw, this isn't me being negative cause it's on the PS3, I just really hate the BBC's line up of shows. They're terrible.

The only decent show is Crimewatch, and that's because I'm waiting for an appearance from yours truely for piracy :shiftyninja:

PS: Channel 4 ftw :woot:

lol channel 4, that sucks almost as bad as ITV!

Although it's good to have it working on the PS3, i'd rather stick to the catch up stuff via VM's TV then it's still in broadcast quality (Y)

And don't get me started on the Welsh... :p

Anyway, noticed that it was in the list of supported devices on the iplayer website a couple of days ago. glad to hear they've announced it though

Can't say I'm a fan so far

1. Screen dims after a few minutes of watching a video.

2. When changing to full screen mode, the cursor moves to the centre of the screen and stays there.

3. Playback controls do not auto hide in "full screen" mode

4. Full screen is not actually full screen. It's just zoomed in, and you can still move the page around. Great while trying to get rid of the ****ing cursor.

5. Playback controls on remote do not control the video on screen.

:(

I just moved the cursor to the side with the analog stick.

Picture didn't move.

Not had it dim either.

Hopefully with firmware 2.53 that adds fullscreen flash support, BBC can update the iplayer code again.

WTF channel 4 fails now that there is next to no porn on it.

Not the be the cat among the pigeons, but I would love to see this on X360...

With no supported browser on the 360 right now I can't see it happening. MS have said all along they have no intentions of adding one either so it looks pretty bleak to get it on there.

Can't believe some are whining about the bbc, it's got some of the best tv in the world and the iplayer makes it very easy to watch and catchup. Accessing it over iphone/ipod on wifi is really easy and useful, would be real nice if apple added it to the apple tv.

some of the best:

top gear

lead balloon

outnumbered

mutual friends

Life on mars

Heroes

Have I got news for you

Not to mention the best news coverage out there and all of it 100% advert free.

Indeed, however it wouldn't be difficult on the BBC's end to implement a 360 version, depending on the browser.

The server farm that powers the iPlayer service transcodes to the calling device on the fly. It would not be a struggle to build a downloadable app (from Live) that presents an interface. The lack of browser is not a valid argument.

I would like to see a PS3 app personally, much like they have for PC, which will download and store shows.

The question would then be would MS allow a 3rd party application on the 360?

For Sony/MS their video stores are the most important thing, it's the BBC iPlayer staff that have brought iPlayer to the PS3 because it has a browser, not really anything to do with Sony striving to get it working.

They do every day. Games are 3rd party apps. This would be no different to a downloaded game from XBL.

Games are what the console is sold for.

Things on XBLA have restrictions and requirements that must be adhered to. Developers submit to Microsoft to see if the content can be published.

A 3rd party application like iPlayer can't construe to any regulations that games do - It's based on audio/visual, would be connecting to BBC servers, not Microsofts, and content is completely managed and controlled by the BBC, not Microsoft.

This isn't a negative remark, merely a comment about letting 3rd party software be integrated into your firmware/console. MS are very tight about the 360, more so than Sony, but I don't even know if Sony would allow it either - Although they did support F@H which is a 3rd party application.

As I said the only reason it's working on the PS3 is because of the browser, not because iPlayer is in anyway integrated with the PS3.

    • That's not clickbait. Clickbait is headlines like, "You'll never guess what this person looks like now" for example. For goodness sake, take a look around the internet if you think this is clickbait. How do sites survive if people don't click through to articles? How many people in all honesty would have clicked this if it had your suggested headline? You and those upvoting your post won't be happy until the web is a couple of hundred websites all behind a paywall.

    • Or use Epic games and get full games for free. lol Steam and their demos. Thankfully there’s competition
    • Maybe I missed it, but does this say anywhere that the game save bug has been squashed? I haven't encountered it myself, but it would be nice to know I'm good to go. Anyway, amazingly well done game. Mostly more of the same. ...but when the same is best in class with improved graphics and features, then a win.
    • Well when your game flops, you should expect this. If I do bad at work, I would expect a layoff. Less than 1600 people played it on steam. https://steamdb.info/app/1934570/charts/
