I really don't know if this is a monitor problem, video card problem, or a vista problem but here is whats going on

-on start up the computer does not read the monitor and i have to replug it in to get it to work

-Resolution is caped at 1024x768 from the normal 1680xsomthing

computer was working fine the day before turned it off woke up and now its like this, no changes had been made in the last while.

Have you tried uninstalling the nvidia drivers and reinstalling them? Not really sure what would cause this to happen other than a driver issue (or potential hardware issue). However, the fact that it "does" work when you re-plug it back in, leads me to believe that there may be a driver issue.

well i uninstalled and the monitor showed up after reboot using the basic windows (Driver?)

and after reinstall back to the same condition as before. Also i don't think this is a hardware issue because this has happened once before, i just took it in and they said that is was a problem with windows.

any ideas or just try a format?

Did you install any other programs on your PC before you shut it down? A format and reinstall would probably work, but it's also a lot of work for something that could be pretty simple too.

Ok weird update, started up today and the monitor started working about 50% of the time (as in not having to replug it in) and the resolution can go up to 1600xsomthing now, no changes have been made from yesterday. Any ideas?

Another weird update just tried to put the resolution up to 1600 and then the monitor shut off and when i reconnected it the resolution was still and 1024 and the option to go to 1600 was gone

this is getting more and more ****ed up my the second.
