Does anyone else find Battlefield 2 INFURIATING?!

This may sound stupid but there is just something about this game. I've been a gamer for years and to be honest ANY game I spend any amount of time playing, I get pretty good at. Counterstrike, Test Drive Unlimited, the Quakes (back in the day) - all of these games I've gotten good at, and certainly games like Counterstrike, I could always give as good as I got.

But for some reason, despite investing hours / days / months / YEARS in this game, I just never seem to do any better. Was on a server this evening and just got mauled constantly.. it's one of those games that I just SWEAR throws its own rules out of the window at random points, and I just ended up having to quit after an hour as I thought I was going to have a stroke from the stress of it. Virtually every encounter I went into, I got picked off in seconds.

Ugh. Does anyone else get this?!

I haven't been on there in ages. I got tired of having a run of amazing rounds, and then getting absolutely slaughtered in others. There wasn't enough progression for me. CoD took over since then.

Some rounds I can run into a group of enemies and kill 3-4 of them before I get killed, other times I can go up against 1 enemy and not even hit them.

The only thing that ****es me off about the game, is when your on foot, jets always swoop in and shoot you from distances that makes it hard to see the jet, let alone a person on the ground from a jet. That and when helicopter pilots/gunners think its fun to circle around an enemy base continuously killing everyone as soon as they spawn, while its against the server rules but they never seem to get banned.

That being said, I personally am doing much better than I did months ago, but it seems any time your firing at someone it really depends on luck. I've fired 2 shotgun shots into a guys chest nearly point blank, then he fired one and killed me, while he lived. Sometimes it just makes no sense at all.

It's because unlike those other games, Battlefield 2 and 2142 actually requires team play. it's not about YOUR skill, it's about your teams, or rather squads skill, no individual teammember will change the flow of thegame, and trying to play it like you play CS or other so called team games, will just ake you an obvius target for, especially if the other team has one or more squads that actually work together, much less work together well.

I couldn't cope with the long ranged stupid cheating snipers.

Sniper are easy to take out, unless he's actualy good, knowhow to change location, brings a spotter and an ammo/cover guy to provide amo, and cover his back when the special forces drop in to kick his ass.

+1.....theres a few servers I play on that, given some of the clan members are in my squad, we absolutely dominate. Usually this is with leaders that actually give good commands vs squads that often are only there so your in a squad, with the leader giving no orders or direction at all.

The only thing I would do differently when it comes to jets is make it so you ONLY get more ammo by landing and reloading, 9 times out of 10 if my team is losing and there are jets on the server, I get killed within 5-10 seconds of getting in a vehicle. This leads me to often just running from base to base on foot as its a LOT safer than driving a vehicle.

The main thing that's frustrating about bf2 is the sheer amount of hacks in it. Go to one server, see it raining UAV's. Head to another, be greeted by the obvious aimbotter. and so on..

I actually managed to get somewhat decent at it before i quit(again), despite it's randomness.

Lol. Most public server snipers are terrible. I'd almost always snipe them back with my beloved carbine rifles(<3 ridiculous accuracy weaps) before they'd kill me.

I quit playing that game too, I was pretty decent, but I hated getting killed by tanks and vehicles, I preferred maps that didn't have huge areas.

Did you ever try any of the "Infantry only city map" servers. The game shines it's best when played like that imo, and would remove what you don't like.

Granted I'm not the greatest sniper, theres some targets I cannot hit if my life depended on it. Its probably a bug, but some people just standing still, I shot at or around them 5-6 times before a single bullet hit. Tried shooting a straight headshot, shooting just above their head, shooting way above their head, etc but theres some spots in the game you just can not hit someone. (note that this doesnt strictly depend on where they are, where you are in comparison to them plays a large role in it)

Heck, just 5 minutes ago I was in a game where I shot at least 10-15 shots at a guy with a semi-automatic, every single shot missed him dispite being only about 15 yards from him and him being distracted (completely still in prone) shooting at someone else while I had him targeted dead center in my sights. I could not hit him until he moved some, then my next couple shots hit and killed him.

Infantry only can be fun, and I have no clue why but Wake Island is my absolute favorite map, which of course would be rather difficult if it was infantry only. (yes I know you were not directing it to me, but meh)

Yea, i know what you mean. BF2's hit detection really sucks at times. There's been so many times i've emptied half a mag into someone at point blank and they took no damage from most of it. Even though in the position i was in, pretty much point blank, it was almost impossible for me to miss. And it's definitely not lag on my end, as when i still played almost all the servers i touched pinged 60 or less.

I can't really say much on the headshot thing though. I typically only snipe when i can get the SVD or similar. I like it far better than the bolt action rifles, since it's faster(and just as accurate) i don't have to rely on headshots with it.

Well its quite relieving to find that plenty of other people find it the same. It's such a double edge sword because some days, when it's all going great, it's one of the best games out there. The sense of scale and the still pretty decent graphics, and when the team all pull together, make for an enjoyable experience.

But last night was just ridiculous. There was a guy who just kept on doing C4 jeeps virtually every time I saw him. He approached from so far away, I was in an APC - no problem. So I start shelling him, and he just keeps coming.. I'm certain that I'm hitting him but clearly not as he just continues to drive towards me, bail out within inches of me, destroy the jeep and the APC and kill me, but not himself. What the hell sort of hit / damage engine is in effect there?! We ended up getting trapped in one base - the opposition wouldn't let us get away but they just were not good enough to cap the flag. This went on for 30 minutes or more - it was beyond infuriating!

I really thought I was going to throw my iMac across the room last night. And yet I'm sure I'll be itching to play it again tonight..

When that happens, I typically stop spawning and go browse the net until its over. Might be rude to abandon your team mates like that, but it keeps me from getting ****ed off at the game, I personally cant stand getting killed the second I spawn, yet they are unable to get the flag.

Like a crack addict I went crawling back for more last night. The usual completely poles apart experience - half the time I was absolutely dominating and our team owned the map - I was the second highest scorer. Next round they were wiping the floor with us and I had to quit out of sheer frustration..

Such a strange game.

yeh bf2 is crud. the hitboxes are notoriously bad.

also there used to be a bug and seems to still exist that proned players are notoriously hard to kill even though you clearly pump rounds into them at close distance they don't seem to die if they remain prone and wiggle, while they kill you with 1 shot.

The player movement is some of the worst I have ever experienced in a game. when you run on a diagnal path you look like a retard.

Wolf - Enemy Territory is the best game i've ever played, even though it is FREE and dated.

bf2

crysis

world at war

and others don't even come close to the playability of ET.

W:ET was the most amazing game I ever played. I spent hours on it, got into the whole clan thing too and met some really nice friends.

Yup, definitely a classic.

I got Quake Wars this week and still not tried it yet. I played the demo though and couldn't be more disappointed :(

I can't wait for the real sequel to RTCW :woot:

    • You pay just $100 per TB with this rare 4TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD deal by Sayan Sen SSDs and GPUs are incredibly hard to get nowadays due to high pricing. Discounts are quite rare which is why we report on them as soon as we spot a good deal. For example AMD's new 9070 GRE was finally up for sale at a very good price of just $500 thanks to a special coupon. Sadly that deal is gone but if you happen to be looking for a 4TB NVMe SSD and can spend around $400 there is a really good offer on sale that you should not miss out on as TeamGroup's 4TB G50 model is on sale for that that price which means you are only paying $100 per TB, a very good deal in the current market (purchase link under the specs table down below). The TeamGroup T-FORCE G50 NVMe SSD is a PCIe Gen4 drive and as such it promises to deliver sequential read speeds of up to 5,000 MB/s, helping accelerate game loading, file transfers, and everyday computing tasks. Since this is a 4TB drive you can use it for a gaming library to take advantage of things like DirectStorage. The SSD features an InnoGrit controller and SLC caching technology to support consistent performance. An ultra-thin, patented graphene heatsink is included to aid in heat dissipation. • I agree. I also think Phil stayed too long. They should definitely fire whoever thought all a console platform needed was Call of Duty, Elder Scrolls, and Fallout to survive. Asha and crew are still saying they need more Elder Scrolls and Fallout games. They simply don't get it.

    • Mozilla highlights Firefox Nova 2026 redesign and more upcoming features with new roadmap by Sayan Sen Last month Mozilla confirmed that Firefox was set to get a major redesign this year. Dubbed "Project Nova", it can already be tested and will roll out to all users later this year. The idea is to keep the browser competitive in a rapidly evolving internet landscape. As such the revamp focuses on improving privacy, usability, performance, accessibility, and customization. Key privacy features including the built-in VPN, private browsing mode, and Enhanced Tracking Protection, will be more visible and easier to manage, while users will have the option to disable AI features entirely through a dedicated kill switch. Additionally, the redesign promises faster page loading, the return of Compact mode, expanded personalization options, and stronger accessibility support. You can find the full details in the dedicated piece linked above. In a new blog post today the company once again reiterated on Nova and also emphasized other new and upcoming features like the settings revamp that is intended to make it easier for users to understand browser settings. In order to make it simpler for users to keep up with such features Mozilla today is launching Firefox roadmap. Hence enthusiasts and interested users will be able to check out what's cooking and also share feedback about the upcoming additions. Alongside the roadmap announcement, Mozilla also highlighted what's new in Firefox 152. One of the biggest additions is the arrival of Tab Groups on Android. The feature, which has already been helping desktop users organize large numbers of tabs, is now beginning to roll out on mobile. Users will be able to group related tabs together, assign names and colors to them, and return to them later. Mozilla says support for iOS will arrive later this year. Firefox 152 also introduces the aforementioned redesigned Settings experience. The company says the changes are meant to make controls easier to find and help users discover features they may not have previously known about. Existing preferences are not changing, though they are now better organized. Another notable addition is the new Blocked Tracker Widget, which provides a visual overview of Firefox's privacy protections by showing how many trackers have been blocked over time and the types of tracking activity the browser has stopped. Looking ahead, Mozilla revealed several upcoming roadmap features. They include customizable keyboard shortcuts, as well as enhanced PDF editing tools that will allow documents to be split, merged, and reorganized directly within Firefox. The company is also working on bringing Multi-Account Containers into the native Firefox experience thus removing the need for a separate extension. Meanwhile Firefox's built-in VPN is set to expand to mobile devices. Mozilla is also developing AI-powered features like Quick Answers, which can provide concise responses to voice queries, and Smart Window, its optional AI browsing experience that is now available without a waitlist. Finally, a new Power Saving Mode is in the works and will help reduce the impact of resource-heavy tabs on mobile devices in order to extend battery life. The video below summarizes the upcoming changes in an easy to understand format: You can find the announcement blog post here on Mozilla's official website.
