Hello, I'm looking for advice on which 64-bit OS is better to use with a new notebook (if approved) that will have an Intel T9400 64-bit cpu with 4GB RAM (all I can get for now) and a large hard drive.

I'm interested in conserving OS resources so I can effectively use VMware Workstation with a lot of VMs, and not running a lot of excessive Windows services that I don't need. I don't know yet about the notebook drivers situation, it comes with Vista Business, no downgrade, but we have some extra XP licenses.

I know about vLite but it can't be used with OEM versions.

I can indeed use nLite to create a customized x64 version of XP.

Thank you, Tom

Vista. Without a doubt. It's quite good on laptops and SP2 is due out early next year and I've found it really made a difference on my laptop.

Whether you go 64 bit or not is up to you. My main desktop system is 64 bit (and it RULES) but I haven't seen the need to move my laptop from 32 bit Vista to 64 bit Vista. With only 4 gb of RAM in your laptop, you are unlikely to see any difference between the two.

almost everything work for 32bit vista works for 64bit vista

i cant say the same for xp not mentioning it xp 64bit is not properly supported

so one point for vista 64bit favor !

edit :

i wander who vote for xp ? no posts

trolls eh lol

Really a waste of time going with XP x64.. I still agree that if you want a lightweight OS, XP is the better choice but XP x64 just did not register on the radar of many driver manufacturers whereas Vista x64 HAS to be on the radar so will be well supported. It's a no brainer unfortunately!

Amazing set of replies.

I will definitely use and recommend Vista x64 if my notebook is approved, otherwise I may have to wait 1 year for a 64-bit notebook or PC!!

Thank you, everyone!!

I have learned something from using a poll -- it appears that more people responded to the poll than actually commented per se.

Sometimes it is just a matter of only having enough time to click a button. Other times, people have already said what you would have. That's all. ^_^
