how to use symantec ghost

I used to generate a full backup and store it on about 5 DVDs since I was short on space, now that I have 1 320GB hard drive, 2 250GB hard drives, and a 250GB external, I generate a full backup and store the image on one of my hard drives. Once that is finished, I like to boot using the boot CD and re-image that way, but I believe you can easily do it while inside Windows.

What I usually do is I install Windows, do Windows Update, get everything set up with drivers and software, install my games I would be likely to be playing more than once, and anything else right where I want it. Once everything is set, I make an image. A month later, I will back up all my personal data, then restore the image. Finally, I perform Windows Update and driver updates, then I generate another full image. I repeat this every month.

EDIT: If you need a complete walkthrough, I ordered Ghost 14.0 a few days ago and should be here tonight, I can post some images up explaining (14.0 shouldnt be that different for just making full images).

Myself, I create a full backup first with incremental backups there after to an external drive or partition.

Then when I need to restore I boot from ghost disk, and either over-write with image or remove previous install and put on

a fresh image of all my back up data.

You could start by reading the manual that came with it...
EXACTLY!!! I fail to understand how the guide linked too is any better/different then the documentation available in the manual or on the norton website.

I just took a quick look see at the manual for 14

It quite clearly goes over everything you would need to know to create a backup and then restore.. And there is a whole chapter on "Best Practices" Chapter 5 ;)

I just looked over the so called tutorial.. Come on really :rolleyes: You walked thru the wizard... I applaud your effort and such.. But come on -- can people really be this stupid/lazy that they can not RTFM to get this info??

You seem to put some time an effort into the guide. Nice job and all - but I just really weep for the fact people can be so freaking lazy/stupid that they would need such a thing in the first place... You did not go into anything that is not clear as day in the current documentation.

      And here goes the "Won't someone think of the children" brigade. Get stuffed mate. This has NOTHING to do with making the internet safe. It's about tracking adults, spying on your online activity, and sending the boys around when they don't like something you post. Also, again, parliament have voted TWICE against this, and Starmer is going ahead anyway. THAT is anti-democratic bullsh**. They will use this law to track you, they will use this law to control you, and they will use this law to punish you if they don't like what you do, even if it's legal. And your data? Say bye bye to that. It'll be on the darkweb in weeks. I'm not some rando online. I've been an IT professional for 40 years, many of it in security.
