Main board question...

A few months ago I believe my main board might have experienced some shock during an electrical storm, despite the surge protector we have. The networking stopped working. So I dug out an old Netgear card and threw it in. Then recently, I tried the board again and voila, it worked! However, more recently, our whole home network has slowed to a crawl. I changed my cable back to the card and it seems to have alleviated the problem.

Anyone have any ideas on what the deal is here? Honestly I am perplexed.

The on board card is on the fritz. It's probably flooding the network with garbage data.
