Dell Inspiron 1525 Optical Drive SATA or IDE?

Recommended Posts

Is the Dell Inspiron 1525's optical drive SATA or IDE? My friend needs to know because he wants to replace it for one that burns DVD+R DL.

He tried Dell Support and they just said "It's screwed in" when he asked if it was SATA or IDE.

LOL at Dell Support.

I'd say it's IDE. Got the following from http://www.itcsales.co.uk/acatalog/Laptop_...cal_Drives.html (bold added)

The bus is IDE. Connector MAY be proprietary. At first glance on the optical drives on my Dell Latitude D630 looks like it has a proprietary connector, but the optical drive assembly comes apart and inside, it has the standard IDE connector many optical drives use (like the ones on the Mac Mini drives and so on).

Ok got it. So I wouldn't be able to buy a Sony optical drive from NewEgg and place it in the Dell. Thats what you're saying?

type up the model of his computer online and make sure it's ide or ata sata. i had to do the same for my new hp laptop when i upgraded to a larger hdd.

    • Hi all. I have a seven year old Acer laptop which according to Acer website can't receive the new MS secure boot updates. This device lives in my bedroom and is purely a consumption device. No gaming, no nothing. I have followed online instructions and turned off secure boot which now gives me a green tick in W11 Security instead of the yellow exclamation mark. Now, I have MWB Premium now for several years and I'm reasonably careful with my online activity with this laptop. I'm also not a gamer in any way so I'm not asking much from this laptop. Given that, am I safe to continue using this device for banking etc given I've turned off secure boot? That's it, that's my question.

    • Let me get this straight... It was a web interface for Gmail, so if privacy at Google wasn't concerning enough you'd be going through two companies. And their big feature was the very thing that would make people consider dumping Gmail.
