huh. come again?

What I'm thinking is that with all of the free engines for Linux, and all of the gaming talent that Neowin has, and the programmers (that are so talented they can produce their own version of Linux) why couldn't Neowin user base produce a high quality single player game for Linux?

if the interest was there, yes, otherwise no :p

From browsing around I can tell the talent is, and Linux gives us the tools.... sooo with a bit of interest I'm wondering what kind of game Neowin would like to produce. I remember Deus Ex being amazingly popular, so I would suggest a FPS based on something similar.

I respect your enthusiasm and all but please be realistic , which names here do you see have talent in 3D modeling,Rigging,Level design,game-engine-development/programming, storyline etc etc , which can be teamed up if neowin pays for it (if thats what you meant) give the names.

dont just look around seeing linux topics and answers and think this forum is filled abundant talent to pump out a Modern 3D game.

If people here can spit a Flash game (browser based shockwave) even that will be good.

I was once at your stage of thinking too. look at my sig on what I have settled for real gaming.

Making a game would be very time consuming and hard. Even making a mod can take years. And a good mod well look at BMS. I think flash based would be the limit. Trust me in 2006 I was learning C++ to make games and I gave up because I do not have the time or money to do that stuff lol. But feel free I would not mind helping out a little.

Okay guys we know its going to be hard, thats that point. We know its going to take time and thats fine, quality doesn't come overnight

For names we need volunteers first, and even before we get modeling talent... we need a story, a plot.

So does anyone have an interest in writing?

Why does it have to be a first person shooter, we got enough of those already?! How about a decent real-time strategy game for linux if you're going to make an effort? :)

My vision is a Deus Ex like game, that had elements of both. Maybe a poll is in order?

In FPS games, the plot is superficial.

Go around. Shoot stuff. Solve puzzles to get to new areas. Survive. Kill more. The end.

Why not an Adventure game? Well, I know those are not very popular around here :(

Noooo!

Long live adventure games

On a somewhat related note, I'm currently trying to re-create the forum in LBP

Your post is the exact reason I'm putting forward this idea. We do not have to make a brain dead game, we can integrate aspects of whatever we find interesting.

So like sanctified and Audioboxer have suggested, aspects of Adventure games are up for grabs as well, maybe even a little horror. However I would like to keep the single player focus.

Numpad plot skillz eh? Excellent, have you ever written anything before?

I study English Lit and Film.

I can help structure a plot if I work TOGETHER as a part of a larger team of scriptwriters so we can merge many story ideas and plots, no one person should be in charge of plot.

Will def give my best for this (Y)

Can the plot involve bald space marines?!

If so, I'm in :woot:

Not really but, haha.

If someone does have an idea, an adult orientated adventure game would be nice. Something gritty and heavy hitting emotionally :p

Which is the reason I can't wait for Heavy Rain. But if any of you guys pull off something looking like that, I'll personally hop on a plane, fly to your house, and buy you a pint

Deus Ex, System Shock 2, Half-Life, just to name a few :p

BTW, I would love to contribute to the plot.

    • Call of Duty: Vanguard, EA Sports FC 26, and more come to Xbox Game Pass by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Microsoft is in the process of making some big changes to Xbox Game Studios right now, which might include studio shutdowns, but Game Pass drops aren't pausing for that. The second wave of June was just announced, unveiling another Call of Duty addition, the latest soccer game from EA, an indie road trip hit from last year, and more. While Microsoft said it won't put Call of Duty titles on Game Pass on the day of launch anymore, older titles keep landing, with the latest one being 2021's Call of Duty: Vanguard. Here are all the games that were announced today for Xbox Game Pass, their platforms, and arrival dates: Junkster (Cloud, XBOX Series X|S, Handheld, and PC) – June 16 Call of Duty: Vanguard (Cloud, Console, and PC) – June 17 EA Sports FC 26 (Cloud, Console, and PC) – June 18 Abyssus (Cloud, Xbox Series X|S, and PC) – June 25 RV There Yet? (Cloud, Xbox Series X|S, and PC) – June 30 Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 (Cloud, Console, and PC) – July 2 Winds of Arcana: Ruination (Cloud, Console, Handheld, and PC) – July 6 From the bunch, Junkster is the sole day-one drop into Game Pass libraries of this selection. As new games arrive, eight will be leaving the Game Pass programs on June 30. Here's the full list of leaving titles: Mecha Break (Cloud, Console, and PC) Payday 2 (Console) Rise of Tomb Raider (Cloud, Console, and PC) Tomb Raider (Cloud, Console, and PC) Slay the Spire (Cloud, Console, and PC) Ultimate Chicken Horse (Cloud, Console, and PC) Volcano Princess (Cloud, Console, and PC) Unpacking (Cloud, Console, and PC) With June drops finished, Microsoft should have a new Game Pass announcement in about two weeks to reveal the first wave of games coming to subscribers in July. Already confirmed games for the month include the Halo: Campaign Evolved remake, Corsair Cove, SpeedRunners 2: King of Speed, and Mistfall Hunter.
