I don't really understand the point of decaf to begin with. Coffee is all about getting a dose of caffeine to keep you sharp for a few hours. For that reason, I only drink coffee once in a while if I really need something to keep me up late night for finishing some work or studying for exams.

I have to say, some people who expect decaf where I work will certainly not be getting it, because I sometimes fill the machine up with the normal beans instead of decaf.

You do know some people have intollerances and reactions to caffeine? Well done!

You know that most decaf coffee, contains a significant amount of caffeine (~10%)...right?

I don't see the point of drinking decaf whatsoever, it's like drinking non-alcoholic beer.

Awesome

I drink coffee to keep me going through the day and wake me up in the morning, which is all thanks to caffeine - Remove that and all you got left is ... murky water?! Drink anything else then?!

Note to self, do not go to the place where this guy works, even for regular coffee. =/

Caffeine doesn't do a thing to me. Nor do any energy drinks. It kind of sucks, to be honest. If I want help staying up late to work on something I've got to rely on my own willpower

Back on topic: I'm not sure why coffee shops would risk any problems with customers by not giving decaf when it is asked for.

a) I drink a lot of coffee and don't want to overdo my caffeine intake.

b) I like the taste of coffee.

c) It makes a change from drinking water all day.

Same for low-alcoholic beer.

Exactly. You are better off drinking orange juice instead.

See this is what I don't understand well. A lot of people make it a habit to drink a few cups of coffee a day and don't realize that it is not healthy at all. Someone is better off taking just one strong cup of coffee with a lot of caffeine to last most of the day than drinking multiple cups with smaller doses. Drinking a lot tea is a different story as there are health benefits.

Like taste of coffee? The taste mainly comes from adding a few bags of sugar and few tablespoons of cream. Take that out, you got a really bitter cup of hot water. I can think of a lot of stuff that takes better.

Not heathy? Opposite. Its the cream and sugar that make it unhealthy. There's some links to consumption of caffeine preventing alzhemimers and other similar degenerative disease.

And its hardly unhealthily ... if it keeps you off the streets! Its keeping me and my coworkers employed (awake and productive)!

actually, i take my coffee black.. so no cream or sugs for me. i like the bitter, and the hot. but i also like the caffeine, decaf makes no sense to me, i will never drink it. it's just nasty, it's like you're taking away the essence of the beverage, like you're taking away its soul or something.

    • I did that to a work colleague many years ago when he left it logged in. Unfortunately I was out of the office the next day, and even the IT department was stumped lol. Got a bit of a bollocking when I got back into the office, but, by god, it was worth it.
